    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Several RV parks sit just east of Opelika, Alabama, offering year-round accommodations for motorhome travelers. Lakeside RV Park provides full hookups with both 30 and 50 amp electrical service, spacious sites that accommodate big rigs, and on-site laundry facilities. Just a short drive away in Auburn, University Station RV Resort operates throughout all seasons with full hookup sites including 50 amp service and a convenient sanitary dump station. Eagle Landing RV Park features big-rig friendly sites with water, sewer, and electric hookups in a layout that allows for easy access. "Super easy to back in, even in super dark conditions with heavy cloud cover and no street lights of any kind," noted one RV camper about the accessibility of sites in the area. Bar-W RV Park rounds out the local options with full hookup sites that include 50 amp service and allow campfires.

Verizon cell service varies throughout the region's RV campgrounds, with most parks offering 3-4 bars of 4G coverage. While some parks like University Station feature on-site markets, others require a short drive to nearby towns for supplies. Most RV parks in the Opelika-Auburn area accommodate pets on leash, though specific pet areas vary by location. Pull-through sites are limited at certain parks, so advance reservations are recommended for RVers with larger motorhomes or fifth wheels. The area's proximity to Interstate 85 makes these RV parks convenient overnight stops for travelers, with most campgrounds situated within 5-20 minutes of the highway. Dump stations are available at most locations, though Eagle Landing lacks shower facilities despite offering full hookups. During football season, RV sites throughout the area fill quickly due to Auburn University home games.

      R. Shaefer Heard Campground

      Nice COE Campground

This is a typical park where not all sites are created equal. Some are paved, some are gravel. Some have 50 amp, some are 30-amp. Some are perfectly level and some have really steep grades. Some sites are pull-thru, some are back-in. Some are really long, some are much shorter. The roads in the campground are paved, free of potholes, and fairly easily navigable for big-rigs. All sites are pet-friendly and have water and electric. There are no sewer sites. Campsites 1-27 and 85-106 have 50-amp electric while the others are 30-amp. Some sites (40, 47, 50, 52, 65, 80, 84, 87, 89, 101) are “double-unit” (or buddy) sites which is reflective in the $60/night price. There are bathrooms scattered throughout the campground in each loop but there are only two shower houses in the entire campground. Sites 1-16 are perfectly level as are a few others. Reservations can be made online and the website has pictures and descriptions as well as length of site. The campground is very dark at night with the only lights being at the bathrooms. We love dark campgrounds where the moon and stars are bright. Unfortunately, numerous campers left their lights all night which we find really annoying.  Our Verizon phone was very spotty and not reliable.  We were able to use our portable Dish satellite to get television.  There is a dump station located conveniently on your way out which is quite busy on Sundays at check out.

      3 Creeks Campground

      Quiet for the most part

I stayed at 3 Creeks for a week as a dry run with a new Class A motorhome. The sites were not too close together, so that is a plus. A lot of full time residents, but mostly a quiet in-the-woods location. They have a mini water park, so expect some playtime noises during operation hours. Full hookups with 50 amp service and friendly hosts. Pet friendly, though most people do not clean up after their fur children.

      R. Shaefer Heard Campground

      Great Lakeside Camping

This park is located on the southern end of West Point lake near the town of West Point, GA. This is a wonderful park with 117 sites all located water front or water view, the sites are equipped with water, 30 or 50 amp electrical, table and fire ring. For this trip we stayed in site 115 which was level and paved, there was also a concrete pad with picnic table and an additional dirt and gravel tent pad area. We brought a canoe which was launched direct from our site which made this very convenient for morning and evening paddle trips. We also had bicycles, the park has good paved roads that are great for low impact bike riding.

There was good over the air TV reception as well as Verizon cell service and LTE data coverage. There’s ample shopping for supplies within 3.5 miles of the park in the towns of West Point and LaGrange.

The only negative for this park is the bathroom. There are two bath houses provided and several toilet only facilities, all are functional but in need of renovation. As as others have said, the park gates lock at 10:00 PM and there is no gate code to allow access after hours.

This is a great COE park with sites that provide views seldom found, we stayed here in a 20’ travel trailer.

      Montgomery KOA Journey

      Great little KOA

This KOA is just outside Montgomery. It has lot of drive through spots that are very long so perfect for big rigs. They have a few back in spots and some tent spots. They also have a very nice cottages and cabins. They have a laundry facility and clean shower rooms. Plenty on space for your dog to run. It has a large fire ring with lots of chairs around it the main part of the camp but no individual camp rings. Each site has a picnic table. The staff was super friendly and accommodating (we needed a later than 11 check out and they were fine with that). They recently re did the community center where you can watch TV, visit or play games. They offer free coffee, cocoa and tea here in the community center. The have a great walking trail. They have a few full time RVers here but it is clean and quiet and we had no issues. On your drive in the driveway is a bit steep and you’ll need to swing wide to make it in but as long as you know you’ll be fine.

      Camp David RV Resort

Beautiful area near lake and river walk

This is a new RV park with full hookups. WiFi is available for long term guests through Mediacom. Daily, weekly and monthly rates with up charge on electric after 800 kWh.

On the outskirts of Columbus. Fishing, Paved river walk for walking and biking, near Ft Benning and golf course. Pleasant owner with big plans to make this a great park. Assisted us with getting to and in our site at dark. Camp host is very helpful.

Cons: large gravel on road and sites making leveling difficult. Sites are fairly close together but better than some. Landscape is in its early stage so grass is sparse. Beautiful trees surround the area but none on sites.

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

      Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.
