Lake Guntersville State Park offers Town Creek Primitive Campground which provides primitive campsites (boondock camping allowed 7 night maximum) on the water, bathhouses, boat rentals, ethanol-free gas (accessible by water), and the Town Creek Fishing Center.
Honeycomb Campground, the popular campground and day use area owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority on Lake Guntersville, AL, re-opened in 2009. There are currently 141 short-term and long-term stay sites available. Most of these sites have electricity and water. There is a dump station on site and a pumping service is available for campers who do not want to move their RV. The campground offers a newly built general store and laundry room. Our recently renovated bath houses are walk-in units offering complete privacy.
In addition to the resort lodge, Joe Wheeler features lakeside cottages and cabins. Joe Wheeler State Park's campground features a total of 116 campsites. 110 of those sites have full hookup with water, electricity, and sewer. There are bathhouses located in each section. Most sites can accommodate any size camping unit. Tents are also welcome. Picnic tables, pedestal, or fire grills are located at each site.

The inviting waters of Wheeler Lake surround this KOA, perched on a peninsula and dotted with native trees. The campground makes the most of its enviable setting, with sites overlooking the water, right along the waterfront and tucked among the shade trees. Thanks to the campground's own boat ramp, it's easy to get out on the lake for a carefree day of fishing, water-skiing or exploring the TVA chain of lakes. LegendVisited Lake Guntersville State Park, for the day. After taking our granddaughter to Screaming Eagle Zip-line Adventures, located at the gorgeous Lodge, we visited the Campground…and it’s amazing! At the office, we were helped by Rocky, who was friendly and knowledgeable! We received CG info and a map, as well as rates. We are already planning our next trip to visit! The general store was stocked with necessities, as well as souvenirs. Of course we had to get some ice cream! There are several types of sites, monthly, cabins and tent camping. There are boat slips (local rentals) and a Pavilion on the water, basketball and tennis courts, playground, shady dog park, splash pad, and clean bathhouses. Firewood and ice can be purchased at the store. There are also many trails to hike and bike . It is easy to see that this SP is well maintained! The SP Lodge is worth visiting, which has a nice restaurant. LGSP has a golf course, and the quaint town is close by and has shopping and several restaurants.

LegendScenic Mountain View! Arrived and greeted by staff at the State Park guard gate, then checked into campground at separate office. Map and instructions given. Nice gravel back-in-site, water and 50amp hook ups. Picnic table and fire-ring at each site. Lots of trees. Sites spaced but not private, not at 33. Lots of traffic , since it is at the entrance and lots of kids riding bikes behind our site as well as tents directly in front of us. Will venture out and explore after the rain, and update as I get info. We Have Starlink, still with very poor reception((under 50) and little to no connectivity with T-Mobile. Would not reserve here for 2 weeks again at this site, for lack of privacy and for partial hook ups.
TravelerDefinitely remember to look at the Park's website for the best way into the park. Our RV specific GPS was waaaay off! All the camper pads have recently been redone, so it's pretty easy to find a flat site. We enjoyed the Japanese tea garden, and look forward to coming back for more hiking and site seeing. 1 washer/dryer per bath house-- not new but got the job done. ATT and Verizon signals weren't super strong but good enough to stream some TV and check email, but we used a high gain antenna.

PROs: • Beautiful views from lakefront sites • not crowded, very quiet in mid-November • hard packed gravel pad was level left-to-right, no leveling blocks under tires needed • easy driving distance to lots of local activities/attractions
CONs: • only one working bathroom/shower house…could be an issue when the campground is crowded considering their are no sewage hookups on site • sites are pretty close together, not much room for outdoor family activities • WIFI (extra charge) was very inconsistent
ScoutWe stayed three nights in primitive camping and it was fantastic. Our site was right on the water and far away from any other campers. The RV camping is not as secluded. Bath houses were very clean and tons of fun things for kids to do around the park.
TravelerFirst, I’ve stayed here many times tent camping with more than one tent on one site with no issues. We took a camper this time and met up with some family who would be staying in a tent. We set up site and hung up a hammock, and within minutes, an employee came and rudely told us our set up wasn’t allowed. We had to take down our hammock (never had that happen anywhere else before), and forced us to pay an extra $75 to rent the neighboring site for our family to set up their tent for the weekend. When they came back around, they said, “You didn’t have to move your tent, you just had to rent the extra site.” It made zero sense, especially when we had noted at reservation that we’d have more than one vehicle, a tent, a camper, and 4 adults + 3 kids. Next came check out. We waited for 3 hours for our turn to use the dump site, we were all packed up and ready to go at 9:30am. To be such a large park, more than one dump site is needed. There’s also a ton of traffic going in and out, so it wasn’t super quiet or anything. We won’t be back, it’s overrated, over priced, and run by rude people.

It seemed way more cool here than down in Huntsville and even felt less humid which was wonderful. The bathrooms and showers were clean as well as the campground overall. Great place to stay!

GuideWe had such a great time at MSSP. We stayed in two sites (since we decided we wanted to stay longer when we got there): 48 & 61, which were both bluff sites. 48 is directly across from the bathhouse. My husband and I both agreed that the bathrooms could’ve been cleaner. I only looked in the showers since we have one in our camper and they were yucky and I’m glad we didn’t have to use them. Site 61 was our favorite of the two since it’s the last one on the bluff before the road goes into the primitive area. All the sites seem to be spacious which we liked. The office staff were all VERY kind and VERY helpful. The camp store itself is small but had pretty much anything you might’ve forgotten. The bike trails are numerous and while we don’t mountain bike we did ride our cruiser bikes down past the rental cabins and on past the gate onto a nice wide gravel trail. It was beautiful and we saw lots of wildflowers and deer. I highly recommend this park. It was lovely.

Had no choice since we were there for our first Oliver Owners Rally and didn’t book soon enough. Those along Lake are best then F. Town of Guntersville has what you need, restaurants, etc.
GuideGot a last minute reservation. Staff very helpful and friendly. Camp sites very well laid out and spacious. We were able to purchase firewood at their store. The trails are well marked. We saw two sets of deer along our hike of the North Loop. Trails well marked. You do share the trails with mountain bikers so you need to live to the side when they’re coming. Met friendly people along the way. The Stone Cuts Trail and Sinks trail came highly recommended by other hikers. Was told to avoid the Stone Cuts Bipass unless you want a very difficult hike. Also, don’t miss the overlook at the top. If not camping, you can drive right to the overlook. There is parking there.

Very well kept campground on the lake. There’s a golf course and seafood restaurant here too. The kids have loved the playground and fishing. Everyone has been so friendly and we would be weekend visitors if we weren’t 8 hours away. Definitely recommend!
