Full hookups and concrete pads define this Louisiana state park campground, where recent renovations have created spacious sites accommodating RVs up to 60 feet. The campground operates year-round with sites ranging from $9-33 per night, though weekend stays require two-night minimum reservations.
Large RVs and fifth wheels dominate the landscape here, with Susan R. noting "there were lots of very large bus RVs and fifth wheels." Sites feature paved pads, picnic tables, and fire rings, though the close spacing creates a parking lot atmosphere that some tent campers find lacking in privacy. The four primitive tent sites sit directly adjacent to RV areas. Many campers use this as an overnight stop while traveling, with sites filling up evenings and emptying by morning.
Water access drives much of the activity here, with the Calcasieu River bordering multiple sides of the park. Fishing, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities abound in the surrounding bayou landscape. Trail networks accommodate both hiking and biking, with over 40 miles of mixed gravel and dirt paths winding through swamp areas where campers regularly spot alligators, turtles, egrets, and deer. Boardwalks and viewing platforms provide wildlife observation points. A free laundry facility with three washers and dryers serves campers.
The bathhouse receives consistent praise for cleanliness, though water pressure runs low and push-button showers require constant activation. WiFi reaches throughout the campground, and both AT&T and Verizon provide 3-4 bars of cell service. Road conditions have improved with recent repaving, though some sites remain unlevel and may require blocks. Hurricane damage recovery continues throughout the park.
Reserve well ahead for weekends when the campground fills completely, and bring mosquito protection during peak season months.
Description
For those who wish to stay overnight, the park offers 8 vacation cabins, 62 campsites and 19 tentsites. The cabins include either one or two bedrooms, a living/dining area, a bathroom, and a fully outfitted kitchen, complete with cooking and eating utensils. Bed linens are also provided and each cabin has central air conditioning and heat. The two campgrounds, located alongside the lagoons, feature improved sites with water and electricity. Dump stations, restrooms, and showers are located nearby
