Within Shoshone National Forest, Brooks Lake Campground operates as a Forest Service facility from July through mid-September at 9,100 feet elevation. The campground contains 13 sites accessible by a dirt access road that can become washboard but remains passable for most vehicles. Several sites sit directly along the lake's banks, though some may be harder to reach during muddy conditions.
Due to active grizzly bear presence, the campground enforces a hard-sided camping unit requirement. "Just watch out for the local grizzly bears," notes Stephen H., reflecting the serious nature of bear activity in the area. Proper food storage becomes essential, and bear spray stays recommended. The lake supports fishing for both lake and creek species, while hiking trails extend from the campground into surrounding terrain.
The facility provides vault toilets, drinking water, and picnic tables, with sites accommodating RVs up to 32 feet. Campers report consistently clean bathrooms and well-maintained sites. A nearby ranch runs horses to pasture around 4:30 PM, and early risers may hear wolves in the distance. Verizon cell service remains unavailable throughout the area.
Sites fill quickly during peak season, so arriving early improves chances of securing preferred spots near the water.
