    Bewabic State Park Campground

    Semi Private Campsites

Campground was well maintained. When we arrived there was no one working the check in station however we were able to use the phone provided and get checked in to our site. Campground is on a lake and there is a nice hiking trail around the island. The site we stayed in was surrounded by trees giving us some privacy. The only thing I was not satisfied with was the fact that the bathroom smelled like cigarette smoke, there was however a no smoking sign posted.

    Paint River Hills Campground

Quiet campground right by town and ORV trails.

Great little campground. It's small, clean and quiet. You self register for check-in, there's a bathroom building with 3 stalls and two showers(women) and hot water. We purchased an RV site($20) even though we were camping in a tent so our truck and trailer would fit and it comes with water and electricity at the camp site. Each campsite comes with a picnic table and fire ring. The ORV Route is right outside the campground entrance and you can ride to the trail. You can also get ice and gas at the gas station in town by taking the alley. We stayed again in 2020 in Our RV. They have 4 pull through sites with full hook-ups;$25 a night. 50/20 amps, high water pressure.

    Lost Lake Cabins

Cabins only at this location but just down the road is a campground

The road in to the cabin campground is beautiful. Tall trees stand guard as you enter an even more peaceful area than the forest you were driving through.

There is a communal parking area with a few of the cabins in sight. You can reserve the cabins individually or get several for your family or group. You can see some recreation areas near the parking area.

The Lost Lake Campground is just down the road. This has a larger beach and boat launch. The lake is perfect for fishing. There are also several short trails and longer ones nearby.

Drive a bit further than Lost Lake Campground to Chipmunk Rapids Campground. There you will find a wonderful artesian well where you can fill up on great drinking water.

    Hi-Pines Campground

Wide open space great if you have kids!

This campground is wide and very open. We arrived on a Sunday and the weekend crowd had cleared out, so nice and quiet. One thing is— do not plan on doing laundry on a Monday. The personnel use all the machines to wash linens and towels from the cabins after folks check out. One dryer did not heat very well. The entry to the laundry is a step up and I stubbed my toe because the threshold was not secured.

    Hi-Pines Campground

    Great Campground with Great Service

We stayed in a rental trailer here and were very impressed! There is a good mix of open and wooded sites. The weekends it gets busy, but the sites are for the most part spaced well enough apart that you don’t feel packed in. The owners/management were very friendly and responsive to all of our requests. You are close to all of the activities Eagle River has to offer, although not directly on the chain of lakes. They have a nice walking trail on the property, in addition to a bunch of activities geared toward the kids. We definitely plan to go back here again!

    Pine Valley Lodge

Great view, Cabins run down and Beach was a mess

We have been coming here for a long time. It is under new management and we thought things would get better. While we were here other guests trashed the beach and had dogs running and using the bathroom throughout the campsite. The rules for dogs were to keep them on leashes and clean up after them. These rules were not being followed which caused the beach, in the past is lovely, but with the dogs using it as a bathroom the beach smelt like poop. Nobody in our week of staying cleaned up after them so we needed to go somewhere else to swim. If your place is pet friendly please make sure to keep up with your own rules. The cabins are run down but showers are hot and the utilities are still able to be used

    Lost Lake Cabins

Great cabin in a campground setting.

I went here a few years ago when my kids were a little younger and it was great. I believe it used to be a private camp that has now been converted to a public one. The cabins are a few hundred feet apart and there's access to the lake for swimming or boating. They have a main lodge which had some games and equipment for use. There's also an on site host with firewood for sale.

The interior of the cabins are spacious and could easily accommodate a large family. Its not too far from activities in Eagle River and there is a DNR center with some educational exhibits a few miles to the east. It was a really nice place to go to introduce the kids to the camping experience while they're young without having to pitch a tent or "rough it" right away.

Guide to Eagle River

Eagle River features over 2,000 acres of water across 28 interconnected lakes known as the Eagle River Chain of Lakes. Cabin accommodations in the area range from rustic single-room structures to multi-bedroom lodges with full amenities, with most sites requiring advance reservations during summer's peak season from late June through August. Winter cabin availability is limited to a handful of year-round operations.

What to do

Fishing excursions: The Chain O'Lakes area provides excellent fishing opportunities with boat ramps available at several campgrounds. "Lovely campground near the lakes. Tons of lake activities like renting boats to fish (like we did)," notes a visitor to Chain O'Lakes Campground.

Swimming and water play: Many properties feature swimming areas with sandy beaches or inflatable water equipment. At Hi-Pines Campground, "This campground is very clean and nice with tons of things to do! The sites are nice and big and the pond has inflatables that are very fun."

Trail walking: Several properties maintain walking paths through wooded areas. West Bay Camping Resort connects to wildlife trails, with a visitor noting, "Has wildlife school across the road with free trails you can walk."

Mini-golf and outdoor games: Family-friendly activities are available at various sites. Indian Shores offers "mini-golf, playground, and heated swimming pool," according to a camper who visited during rainy weather.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds provide adequate room between sites for privacy. "We stayed in a rental trailer here and were very impressed! There is a good mix of open and wooded sites. The weekends it gets busy, but the sites are for the most part spaced well enough apart that you don't feel packed in," writes a guest at Hi-Pines Campground.

Clean facilities: Maintained bathrooms and shower houses are frequently mentioned in positive reviews. "Clean bathrooms and shower areas. Easy hook up for water, electric and sewer," notes a visitor to Arbor Vitae Campground.

Lake access: Direct access to water ranks high in camper satisfaction. At Peaceful Pines Resort, "The lake is right there steps away that is crystal clear and sandy bottom!!"

Heated pools: Several properties maintain swimming pools, extending water recreation options beyond natural lakes. One Indian Shores visitor mentioned, "The pool was warm enough that even the non-stop rain did not cool it down enough to be uncomfortable."

What you should know

Seasonal site mix: Most campgrounds feature a combination of seasonal residents and temporary campers. "This is a larger campground with a good mix of seasonal and weekend campsites. The majority of the weekend campsites are located near the prime activity locations," explains a reviewer at Indian Shores.

Site terrain variations: Campground terrain varies significantly between properties and within individual campgrounds. "The Shady sites are amongst the evergreens, so they tend to be sandier. The full sun sites are all grass," notes an Indian Shores visitor.

Cabin maintenance levels: Maintenance quality varies between properties. At Pine Valley Lodge, "The cabins are run down but showers are hot and the utilities are still able to be used."

Seasonal operating dates: Most cabin properties close from mid-October through April. Chain O'Lakes Campground operates "May 1 to October 7," while West Bay Camping Resort runs "May 1 to October 1."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Look for properties with dedicated children's programs. "Great activities for kids…fishing presentation, movie, kickball," notes a visitor to Hi-Pines Campground.

Site selection for shade: Summer temperatures can make shade important for comfort. "The site was full sun which got hot. There were shaded sites, but we couldn't get sites together in the woods to be close to friends," advises a Hi-Pines camper.

Playground proximity: Sites near play equipment offer convenience for families with young children. "Our campground was next to nice bathrooms and a sand volleyball court. Good privacy from neighboring campsites," shares a Chain O'Lakes Campground visitor.

Activity planning: Eagle River area campgrounds offer varying recreation options. "This isn't a kids campground more like a relaxing or fishing campground," notes a visitor to Hiles Pine Lake Campground.

Tips from RVers

Electrical capacity awareness: Some campgrounds may have service limitations during peak demand. One West Bay Camping Resort reviewer cautioned about electrical issues "in a very hot part of summer."

Campsite leveling: Terrain variability affects setup time. "Most are fairly level or it doesn't take much to make your camper level," explains a West Bay visitor.

Big rig accessibility: Several campgrounds accommodate larger RVs, though site dimensions vary. "Huge campground and well organized. Pull thru site," notes a visitor to Chain O'Lakes Campground.

Dump station availability: Not all properties offer full hookups or dump stations. Check individual campground listings for sanitary disposal options before arrival.
