Best RV Parks & Resorts near Windsor Heights, WV

Several full-hookup RV parks operate near Windsor Heights with varying amenities and site configurations. Shadow Lake RV Resort in Woodsfield, Ohio offers year-round service with water, sewer, and electric connections on sites that accommodate larger vehicles. "Very level sites, tons of empty sites between campers," one visitor noted about the campground experience at Zion Retreat RV Park in Flushing, Ohio, which provides full hookups surrounded by tall trees. Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins in Toronto, Ohio operates seasonally from May through October with both thirty and fifty-amp electrical service, though some visitors report tight spacing between sites. Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort in Charleroi, Pennsylvania maintains fifty-amp service for larger power requirements.

Many sites throughout the region require advance leveling preparation due to uneven terrain. According to one camper, "We stayed here November 21, 2020. The campground had no water hookups, about 90% of the sites were not level (and I mean by A LOT)." Cell service varies significantly, with some parks having no coverage regardless of carrier. Most campgrounds within 30 miles accommodate pets, though rules vary regarding breed restrictions and leash requirements. Seasonal availability becomes limited during winter months as several parks close completely from November through April. Dump stations and propane fill services aren't universally available, particularly at smaller facilities, making advance planning essential for longer stays or colder weather camping.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

    Salt Fork State Park Campground

    Great fall camping

Dated, but pretty clean bath\shower building with clothes washer and dryer ($2). Sites in C-loop are far enough apart to not feel too crammed together. Power pedestal has 20, 30 and 50 amp service. 30 amp worked fine. Lots of trails, allowing dogs on leash. True, other amenities are a drive of at least a couple miles to get to. ATT service was fine for streaming using ROKU and my phone as a hotspot. Paved, level pads, but not long enough for largest trailers. Check size if you have one. Sites at South end of loop get the most shade

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

    Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA

    KOA - Monthly Stay

Camping in a 33 ft travel trailer with slides. Verizon service is great. Wifi in extended parking doesn’t work well. The staff are helpful and polite. We are in the extended stay part of the campground which is quiet and slightly more secluded than the other spots.

    Big Arbs Campground

    Lots of Hills

The whole campground is on a hill. Most if not all seasonal sites. The area we stayed was mostly the party crowd and didnt seem to respect quiet time. There is a long list of rules most do not follow. And ownership takes no responsibility. We had to ask several times for a picnic table and fire ring.

    Nice little state park

Tomlinson Run is a nice little state park in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Has a little store, dump station, most sites are 30amp and they have added a few 50 amp sites. Most sites are gravel/dirt, Handicapped sites are blacktop. State Park has many hiking/biking trails, a swimming pool, mini golf, paddle boat rentals, fishing, and a couple parks for kids. Enjoyable and mostly quiet park.

    Salt Fork State Park Campground

    My Go-to Weekend Getaway

Saltfork is located about 45 minutes from my house, and makes for the perfect overnight trip.

There are tons of things to do, and lots of space in which to do them. My favorites includes hiking trails, and the lakeside dog park.

I stay in the primitive camping, it allows for more privacy and quiet. Although it also means you are relegated to the pit toilets. I personally don't mind them, but I know some campers will make the drive to the nicer shower house in the RV heavy side of the park.

Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, the fire rings in the primitive section need some work, as the grates are very old and small.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins offers multiple fishing spots with a small lake stocked seasonally. According to a camper, "A little out of the way but worth the drive. Has a playground in every section, well equipped cabins, a swimming area with inflatables, kayak, pontoon, and paddle boarding rentals, a bumper boat area, small lake where you can fish and boat."

Water recreation: Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins provides extensive water activities during their May-October season. One visitor noted, "Tons of stuff to do here. Very big campground, all kinds of sites. Inflatable slides and such in the lake, hiking trials, playgrounds, all sorts of stuff."

Wildlife observation: The natural setting at Shadow Lake RV Resort offers wildlife viewing opportunities along trails. What campers like

Family-friendly environments: Many campgrounds prioritize activities for children. A visitor to Austin Lake notes, "Owner meets you at the gate, very nice guy to talk to. Staff was all very friendly and helpful. Tons of stuff to do with the kids. They loved the lake and everything there was to do on it. Kayaks, paddle boards, jumps, slides."

Swimming facilities: Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort features an above-average pool area. According to a review, "The pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites, modern hookups, good shower/laundry facilities, nice fire rings with built in grills, trash pickup service."

Peaceful surroundings: Zion Retreat & RV Park offers a quiet camping experience with natural views. A camper shares, "The views are amazing! If you love peace and quiet this is the place for you. What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Terrain throughout the region requires advance planning for RV stabilization. At Austin Lake, a visitor advises, "Be advised it will seem a little sketchy getting in. The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there. Take your time and all will be just fine. Our rig is 39' & 16K. 4wd low helps, not cause you need 4wd just for the lower gears."

Additional fees: Some campgrounds charge for amenities beyond the site rental. One Austin Lake camper cautions, "Austin lake offers plenty of fun with the lake. Kayaking, inflatables, beach, but almost anything you want to do will cost you an additional charge. Need to use the bathhouse? Better take quarters...bc the showers are coin operated."
