Five miles down winding roads from the main highway, COE Philpott Lake Goose Point Park operates three distinct camping loops managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The lower A loop claims the most coveted spots with direct lakefront access, while B loop serves tent campers exclusively and C loop accommodates RVs with full hookups.
Campers wake to views across Philpott Lake's clear waters, where visibility extends to the bottom in many areas. The maintained sandy beach provides swimming access and keeps life jackets available for children. A boat launch with pier serves anglers and paddlers, while hiking trails wind through the wooded terrain above the water. Kirsten J. notes the bathhouse features "stalls, running water and shower stalls with private changing areas."
Sites in the lakefront loop sit close together, but most campers accept the proximity for water access. The upper loops offer more space between sites and shade from mature trees. An amphitheater hosts ranger programs during peak season, and a playground keeps children occupied near the main camping area. Cell service proves spotty throughout the property.
Reservations for lakefront sites require booking six months ahead, particularly for summer weekends. The narrow access road handles most RVs but demands careful navigation. Water gets turned off at individual sites during winter months, though spigots remain available nearby. Firewood sells at the host site near the entrance, and no stores or restaurants operate within easy reach.
Campers seeking additional options in the region can explore Fairy Stone State Park Campground less than three miles west for a different camping experience.
