Great place, but terrible road

We loved everything about this place.  The sites are in great condition and very clean.  The flush toilets were a plus.  It is a little bit of a jaunt to get to the lake, but it is worth going to for fishing, kayaking, paddleboards, or swimming.  There are several ATV/OHV trails in the area.  The camp hosts said that we could have our SxS in the campground as long as it was street legal, and they didn't charge me an extra vehicle fee.  The two things that made this review 4 stars is the dirt road is a washboard mess.  Basically, had to roll in 4-wheel drive in the lowest gear or I would have been shaken off the side.  The second were all the cows that are allowed to graze through the campground.

Currant Creek Reservoir and Campground 2021

Dirt road is washboard hell, but you are rewarded when you arrive to a clean and quiet campground stay. Plenty of trees, flowers and wildlife including hummingbirds, deer, sandhill cranes, moose, beaver, chipmunks, squirrels and fish. Water is cold, but plenty deep for fishing, boating, canoes and paddle boards.  Fishing was steady.  Be prepared to pay to launch your boat and empty your tanks at the dump station.

This campground has reservation and first come first served sites. There is tent and trailer camping available. Loop B has group sites. There was no water available in the campground the last few times we were here. There are no hook ups-electric, water, sewer at this campground.

There are restrooms in each loop of the campground. There is a quiet time enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM. No generators after 10 PM.

Bring cash or check as they do not take credit cards on site.

We will camp here again.

Currant Creek

Campground is more remote so it’s great if you want to get away from large crowds. Higher elevation so you escape some of the summer heat. Fishing is good for trout.

Gorgeous views

The drive to currant creek was so pretty. I would drive there just for the day. The camp grounds are close together. Luckily it wasn’t that busy when we went. I don’t like the fact that dogs have to be leashed and generators are off by 10:00. Camp host was nice and the camp grounds were big enough for our trailer in loop A. Fishing was good and the area was clean.

Fantastic hosts great spots

Fantastic spots available for friends to get together. We understood curfew, but were well respected when it came and went. No disruptions here.

Not worth the long drive

The camp sites are stacked on top of one another so if you're looking to get away from people, don't go to currant creek. Every other family around us cut through our camps day and night with no regard for our gear. We reserved two spots in loop A and they were TINY and not at all spaced out like the website made it appear. Multiple websites labeled this place as off-leash dog friendly, it's not. The camp hosts are very rude if you do have them off-leash so just be aware (even if they're well-behaved and laying at your feet). The only up-side is the bathrooms are decent. It's a long drive out for an over crowded campground. The fishing at currant creek reservoir was decent though.

Great Lake and nice grounds

Good campgrounds with flush toilets and water hookups. No electric or sewer hookups. Sites are spacious enough and have fire rings and tables. The gravel road in is kinda brutal so be patient. It seems to deter some of the crowd which is great. Lake is too far to walk from the back campgrounds. Good fishing especially if you can get out on any kind of watercraft. FireWood available at host.

Hidden Getaway

Hidden by a long dirt road, my family enjoyed going up here twice last summer. We played in the lake, tried some fishing, and enjoyed sitting in the share of large ponderosas. It was quiet even with many people camping in the area were there to ride trails on their ATVs. The road in was the only discouraging part.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do visitors say in reviews of Currant Creek Campground?

Currant Creek Campground is praised for its beautiful setting and quiet atmosphere. Campers enjoy the fishing opportunities in the reservoir, with good trout fishing reported. The campground offers clean sites with flush toilets and water hookups. Many appreciate the abundant wildlife including deer, hummingbirds, moose, and beaver. The camp hosts are frequently described as friendly and helpful. While some love the spacious sites, others note that certain loops have sites close together. Be prepared for cold nights even in summer, and know that the access road has washboard conditions that some find challenging.

Is dispersed camping allowed at Currant Creek Reservoir?

Dispersed camping is not available directly at Currant Creek Campground, which is a developed campground with designated sites. The campground features established campsites with amenities like fire rings, tables, flush toilets, and water spigots. For dispersed camping options in the general area, check with the local Forest Service office that manages the surrounding Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest for permitted locations and current regulations.

How do I make reservations for Currant Creek Campground?

Reservations for Currant Creek Campground can be made through Recreation.gov, the official reservation system for federal campgrounds. It's recommended to book well in advance, especially for summer weekends and holidays when the campground is most popular. Have your preferred dates and campsite loop preferences ready when making reservations. For the most current reservation policies and availability, check Recreation.gov or contact the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest office that manages this campground.

Where is Currant Creek Campground located in Utah?

Currant Creek Campground is located in north-central Utah, approximately 17 miles from Highway 40. To reach the campground, take the route that includes 10 miles of paved road followed by 7 miles of dirt/gravel road. The campground sits at a higher elevation, offering cooler temperatures during summer months. It's situated near Currant Creek Reservoir, though some campsites in the back loops require a short drive to access the lake.

What campground loops are available at Currant Creek and which are best?

Currant Creek Campground has multiple loops including Loop A and others. Loop A has sites that some campers find small and close together, making it less ideal for those seeking privacy. The back loops offer more spacious sites but are farther from the lake. When choosing a loop, consider that sites closer to the reservoir provide easier water access but may have more foot traffic. For families with children or those planning to spend significant time at the lake, the loops closer to the water are more convenient despite potentially being busier.
