Best Cabin Camping near Sterling, UT

Several state parks and private campgrounds near Sterling, Utah provide furnished cabin rentals with varying amenities. Palisade State Park Campground offers cabin accommodations with electricity and basic furnishings, situated near a small reservoir for fishing and water activities. Oasis Campground at Yuba State Park features cabins within walking distance of the lake, providing a cool retreat during hot summer months. According to one visitor, "We planned to tent camp here, but our friends rented the cabin next to our site and couldn't make it last minute. So we got the cabin! Great spot. Lake is cool and an easy walk down from the sites. Shade is at a premium, so we were very happy to get the cabin because it was crazy hot." Most cabins include indoor plumbing with showers and toilets, while some more rustic options may have shared bathroom facilities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Orange Olsen offers two cabin options: a smaller unit suitable for families of four and a larger "Dwelling" that accommodates extended families or multiple couples with children. Both include private bathrooms with showers and running water. Pet policies vary by location, with Fillmore KOA and Pleasant Creek RV Resort allowing pets in their cabin accommodations, while others like Indian Creek Guard Station prohibit animals. One reviewer noted of Orange Olsen cabins, "The Dwelling is large enough to hold a really big family or two couples with small children. The cabin is pretty small but large enough for a family of four. Both have showers, toilet, with running water." Most locations require advance reservations, particularly during summer months when cabin camping is most popular.

Most cabins include beds with mattresses but require visitors to bring their own linens, pillows, and towels. Kitchen facilities vary widely, from basic countertops with microwaves to full kitchenettes with refrigerators and stovetops. Sevier River RV Park offers riverside cabins that provide a comfortable alternative to tent camping. Mystic Hot Springs, though farther from Sterling, features unique cabin accommodations with access to natural hot springs. Visitors should check with specific locations about what cooking equipment is provided, as some cabins include only minimal supplies. Nearby towns offer grocery stores for stocking cabin kitchens, though bringing essential supplies from home is recommended, especially for more remote locations.

    Fillmore KOA

Great location for overnighting along Interstate 15 or if you love ATVing

Great location if you ATV or just need a night along Interstate 15.  We were just traveling through but had some truck trouble.  The owners were so great and flexible as we were changing our nights daily.  I can't say enough about how kind and accommodating they were.   Showers, bathrooms, laundry and common areas were spotless.

We would definitely stay there again.

Oasis Campground — Yuba State Park

    Great Weekend Getaway

Awesome first camp of the year. Booked as soon as the state parks opened back up. Place really gave that “middle of nowhere feel”, lake and surrounding area were beautiful. Campsites were simple and bathrooms were nice. Only issue we had was we accidentally booked a site without electric. Could’ve been more clear on website, but also likely a rookie mistake being our first camp in Utah

    Wagons West RV Campground

    Dated but inexpensive

No concrete pads, just gravel with grass and picnic tables between. The landscaping looks a little overgrown. The fencing around the small dog park isn’t secure.

Office and laundry facilities are closed on Sundays. Bathrooms are small but clean with one toilet stall and two shower stalls each.

Full hookups and pull through spaces. Wi-Fi is available but we didn’t test it.

It’s a very quiet place. Fillmore has a Best Western with a golf course, a few gas stations and a Carls Jr.

Oasis Campground — Yuba State Park

    Much nicer than beach camping

The campground is spacious, has showers, running water bathrooms, fire pits, cement pads and pavilions. Great place to camp- much better than being on the beach- due to the wind! Yuba beach is always windy and the oasis campground gives some reprieve

    Orange Olsen

    Great cabins for the cost.

I really want to give a poor review so no one else will take my future reservations.  However, they really are in a great location and easily accessible.  The Dwelling is large enough to hold a really big family or two couples with small children.  The cabin is pretty small but large enough for a family of four.  Both have showers, toilet, with running water.  The lake is about a mile down the road. The nearest open boat dock is on the other side of the lake (~3 miles).  The ATV trails are endless and right out the driveway is access to Skyline Drive AKA God's Country.  Fishing is good at Joe's spring and fall. Summer time is better for swimming and wake boarding.  The smaller lakes and ponds are better suited for summertime fishing.  Luckily the are short drives.  Not much of a rock climber but I know the only reason my in-laws come is to go drag themselves up a rock while I wet a fly.  Overall a pretty laid back place to spend a few days relaxing.

    Fillmore KOA

    Best KOA we’ve ever seen!

We were hesitant to camp at a KOA because we prefer something more remote but this one was perfection. Near the highway(not close enough to hear anything) but backed up to the most beautiful mountains to watch the clouds roll in. Large grassy sites, full hookups, pool, bathrooms and free showers. Fire pits and picnic tables. Quiet. Surpringly hardly any kids. We loved this spot. We walked in with no reservations.

Bowery Haven Resort & RV Park

No tents. Very basic RV park.

Basically a place to park your RV with hookups, but no frills or space/privacy. There are no grills or fire pits at the sites. For $35/night, I can't recommend this RV park.

Oasis Campground — Yuba State Park

    Nice facilities, well-maintained

Spent a night here. Nice facilities, with covered picnic tables at each RV spot, water, and most with electric. Nearby dump station. Some grass and green areas for dogs. Adequate shower facilities. Pretty scenery, and several miles away from the interstate so very quiet. There was an algae bloom that made lake hazardous, so we kept dogs away from the water.

Oasis Campground — Yuba State Park

    Serene

This is a great spot on your way through or just for a weekend getaway. Each spot has a cover over the picnic table and most spots have a view of the lake. The spaces are pretty far apart and you have a decent amount of privacy.

There is a lot to do including camping swimming 🏊‍♀️ on the beaches, and water is warm. The campground ⛺️ is about 25 miles south of Nephi. Recreational opportunities include camping, 🛶 , swimming, fishing, and ATV/dirt bike 🏍 paths.

There is developed and primitive camping is available at Oasis and Painted Rocks campgrounds and at the beach areas. There is a lot to fish for including northern pike, walleye, yellow perch, wiper, and catfish year-round.

Guide to Sterling

Camping cabins near Sterling, Utah offer a range of accommodations amid central Utah's high desert landscape at elevations around 5,000-6,000 feet. Temperatures fluctuate significantly between day and night, with summer highs reaching 90°F and nights cooling to the 50s. Winter cabin camping provides shelter from temperatures that frequently drop below freezing, making cabins a practical choice for year-round exploration.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Palisade State Park Campground provides excellent fishing access with multiple species available. "Plenty of fish to catch off the shore or in a boat," notes Matt L., who visited in June 2023. The small reservoir supports various recreational activities beyond fishing.

Mountain biking: Family-friendly trails surround Oasis Campground at Yuba State Park, making it ideal for cyclists of all abilities. "We really love the lake and all the little trails we could mountain bike on! Good place for families or big groups to come to!" reports Brittley A.

OHV and ATV trails: The area features extensive off-highway vehicle routes directly accessible from several campgrounds. The Fillmore KOA provides convenient access as "part of the utah utv trail system," according to David G., making it a popular base camp for riders.

What campers like

Natural hot springs: Mystic Hot Springs offers unique soaking opportunities in mineral-rich waters. "The pools are awesome, and the retro busses outfitted as campers are rustic. It has showers, bathrooms, and a gift shop," explains Hayley K. The springs remain accessible 24/7, providing nighttime soaking under the stars.

Privacy between sites: Most cabin campers appreciate adequate spacing between accommodations. At Orange Olsen, the cabins offer good separation and different size options. Steven G. notes, "The Dwelling is large enough to hold a really big family or two couples with small children. The cabin is pretty small but large enough for a family of four."

Clean facilities: Many cabin campers prioritize well-maintained bathrooms and common areas. Heritage Grove Campground receives praise for its upkeep, with Rayna D. reporting, "Had very clean restrooms and showers. Lots of amenities like a playground and volleyball net."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Summer cabin rentals fill quickly, requiring advance booking. Some facilities close seasonally, with operating schedules varying by location. Richfield KOA operates from "March 1 to October 31," according to their listing information.

Kitchen supplies: Most cabins provide basic kitchen facilities but limited cooking equipment. Bring your own cooking supplies, food storage containers, and serving utensils. Refrigeration availability varies significantly between locations.

Variable cell service: Connectivity decreases in more remote cabin locations, especially those at higher elevations. Download maps and important information before arrival. The Manti - La Sal KOA offers more reliable connectivity, with Steven M. noting it's "a nice campground with clean facilities" that works well "for a stop over."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several cabin locations include play equipment for children. Heritage Grove Campground features "a playground and volleyball net," according to Rayna D., providing on-site entertainment for kids.

Swimming options: During summer, lake and pool facilities provide cooling recreation. Palisade State Park features a "sandy little beach" and "rent[s] paddle boats and canoes if wanted," according to LaDell G.

Site selection considerations: For families seeking quiet, avoid high-traffic areas. Madison G. cautions that Palisade State Park can be "loud and busy most days of the week in the summer. If you're looking for solitude, drive up a canyon road and skip Palisade State Park."

Tips from RVers

Winter access: Most cabin facilities with RV accommodations remain accessible in winter, though services may be limited. Oasis Campground at Yuba State Park typically operates from "March to December," providing extended seasonal access.

Levelness varies: Some sites require significant leveling equipment. Kenyon experienced this at Pleasant Creek Ranch (now Manti - La Sal KOA), noting: "Some of the sites aren't level and are pretty close to each other. I had to use 3 yellow square leveling blocks on the left side."

Hookup availability: While all cabins offer shelter, utility connections vary widely. Edward R. describes Oasis Campground as having "nice facilities, with covered picnic tables at each RV spot, water, and most with electric. Nearby dump station."
