Tips for camping with families
Lake activities for kids: Several campgrounds offer safe water recreation. "Being that we already live in southern Utah county, this place has become a go to for our family. Only about 45 mins away from Payson Ut... Also the lake isn't too big so if your teen blows across the lake on his kayak or raft he can easily walk it back around the lake," shares James B.
Playgrounds and facilities: Some campgrounds offer additional recreation options. "Great campground. Bathrooms and drinking water available. Lots of shade. Easy walk to the lake. Great fishing. Very fun for kids," says Courtney S. about Payson Lakes.
Spacious sites for multiple tents: Larger family groups should look for campgrounds with ample space. "Loved that the spaces were big enough to fit our truck and 2 tents," notes Analia F. about Whiting Campground.
Tips from RVers
Level sites with concrete pads: Whiting Campground offers well-maintained RV spots. "Campsites are concrete with tables and firepits, very clean. Pit toilets are well maintained," says connie C.
Overnight spots near highways: For travelers just passing through, consider areas like Sheep Creek. "Plenty of space for any camper, tents to fifth wheels. The night I camped 9/20/25 there were about a dozen vehicles," notes Robert C. about Sheep Creek, one of the accessible horse campgrounds near Nephi, Utah.
Campsite sizing confusion: Be aware that site sizes might not be clearly marked. "First, their normal campsites are really small. We'd actually accidentally set up residence in a double spot without knowing it. So that was unexpected, given the spots are kind of pricey already (normally it's $23/night, but the doubles were $46/night)," warns Sheila M. about camping at Payson Lakes.
