About

National Forest

Bridger-Teton National Forest

Within the Hoback River Area lies an abundance of recreational opportunity and amazing scenery waiting for you to enjoy. Driving south of Jackson 15 miles and heading east on Highway 191, you will find yourself driving through one of the most beautiful canyons in the surrounding area. Winding through this canyon is the designated Wild and Scenic Hoback River where crystal clear water lends itself to world-class fishing, early-season boating and peaceful camping. Off of Highway 191 to the north lies the Granite Creek drainage. This scenic valley is home to the designated Wild and Scenic Granite Creek which winds it's way from the Gros Ventre Wilderness down through the mountains until it's rocky junction with the Hoback River. The Granite Creek valley provides miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Also nestled at the head of the valley where the Gros Ventre Wilderness begins, is the Granite Creek Campground and Granite Creek Hot Springs as well as the beautiful Granite Falls. Enjoy a scenic drive and a soak in the hot springs during the fall or take the valley by dogsled to reach those hot waters in the winter. Year-round opportunities await those looking for adventure in the outdoors.

Almost perfect

The campground is well maintained. Camphosts are efficient and helpful. Might be the nice vault toilet I have ever seen!! Great fishing around the bend from the campground. Only negative is the road noise, but that is a location issue and can’t be fixed!!

Beautiful area

There’s no place more beautiful than Jackson hole in the summer time. Really you can’t go wrong with any of the campgrounds I’ve been to in this are, but I really like the quiet, small nature of hoback.

These sites are super adorable and all of them are nice. Really I didn’t see any bad looking ones. Can’t reserve these sites though, just first come. There are some basic bathrooms, but no showers.

Really what’s great about this place is the scenery and the activities. There’s some great climbing right at hoback shield. Jenny lake is a nice hike. Backpacking along the Teton crest trail. There’s some good mountain biking right outside of the city.

Definitely hit up the snake river brewery while you’re in town! All around amazing place.

Nice, clean place, easy access

Pro: easy access, right off the highway. Con: right off the highway, traffic noise. Located right off Hwy 189/191 about 8 miles from Hoback Junction the WEST side of the highway. I camped here for 1 evening before a Grand Teton summit trip. I chose this campground for decent proximity to GTNP (45 minutes away) and the availablity and easy access of sites. I believe there were 12 sites that all had picnic tables and fire rings. There were several other cleared sites, some without tables and grills, that had alpha identifiers other than the 12 numeric sites. Not certain how many alph sites, but looked like tent only sites. They were all $15 nightly and an additional $7 for extra vehicle. They had one site with electricity, right next to the camp host. this one site is $25 a night. The campground has pit toilets, bear boxes, water, dumpsters. The Hoback Runs next to several of the campsites. I would highly recommend getting as near the river as possible to drown out the noise from the highway. Camp hosts were very nice! I only had a $20 to pay my fee with. They brought $5.00 in change back to my campsite after I placed it in the depository. They have firewood for purchase for $6.00 a bundle. I was a runner up in a Dyrt camping contest last month. with my REI gift card I purchased the Big Agnes MountainGlo tent lights and a Sea to Summit sleeping bag liner. Fun to try these out!
