Best campsite on the way to the valley
This is located 9.5 miles down the trail to the Enchanted Valley. This is usually a quiet campsite as most hikers stop at O'Neil Creek which is only 6.7 miles. If you aren't too tied it is worth pushing on down the trail to Pyrites Creek. The campsite are flat and the river is beautiful.
Absolutely Amazing!
We visited in July of 2016 and while the campground was 9.5 miles from the trailhead, due to a washout above Graves Creek Campground it was an additional 2 miles to the trailhead. On the way you pass Pony Bridge campground and O'Neil Campground as notable stops and points of record to determine your pacing. The campground itself is directly next to the Pyrites Creek and has several sites on both sides of the river. This is a bear frequented area and bear poles are present for hanging food and proper food containers are required per the NPS. I would recommend the sites before you cross the river as they are shades, provide easy river access for water and have level sites. You do have to register with the Park Service to stay here.
