Road noise from nearby highways marks the soundscape at George Wyth State Park Campground, where 50-amp electric sites accommodate RVs up to 50 feet along the Cedar River's edge. The campground sits within easy reach of Cedar Falls and Waterloo, making it a convenient base for exploring Iowa's craft brewery scene and extensive bike trail network.
Campers can secure riverside sites for direct water access, though flooding occasionally closes portions of the park during heavy rain periods. The Cedar Valley bike trail connects to over 100 miles of paved paths extending through both cities. Mary S. notes "you can rent kayaks, canoes or pedal boats near the campground at Wyth Lake," with three additional lakes providing fishing opportunities beyond the river.
Push-button showers deliver pre-set water temperatures in clean restroom facilities, while a central playground serves families with children. Wyth Lake features a seasonal swimming beach alongside boat docks scattered throughout the water for fishing access. Mosquitoes can be heavy during warmer months due to standing water areas, and train tracks add to the nighttime noise profile for tent campers.
The campground operates from April through December with Iowa's budget-friendly state park rates. Sites closest to the Cedar River fill quickly during peak season, though the park sees lighter crowds during fall and winter months. Jennifer T. confirms it's "usually very clean and the hosts are nice," with reservations available through the state system.
This location works well for RV travelers wanting full hookups near urban amenities, families using the bike trails, and anglers targeting multiple water bodies within walking distance of their campsite.
