Clean, quiet campground with easy access to West Yellowstone

Located about 25 minutes from West Yellowstone off of HWY 20, this campground is a great jumping off point to explore Yellowstone park.  There are other campsites including a couple KOAs located closer, but they're busier with campsites closer together and fewer trees and minimal shade.  This is set back far enough from the highway that it's very quiet with ample space between campsites.  Some sites have electrical hookups.  Ours didn't but the weather was perfect and we didn't need AC at all.

We did have a campers nearby who showed up the last two days of our 5 days full of boys who were a bit noisy early in the morning (before 730a), but we didn't really mind.  There was a spigot to fill our water tanks in the loop we stayed, but we filled up from the area host who has a hose for that purpose before we wen to the site.  Due to the location in the loop, you have to go all the way around the loop before you get to the spigot, so it was good we filled up before we went to the loop.

Well developed, easy camping!

Very well developed campground. Large but doesn’t feel large or crowded. All of the B sites were very nice with tent pads and well built fire pits. Bathrooms were sufficient and convenient, as was potable water. Had plenty of cell service on Verizon. Gas station and store only a few minutes away.

B11 was a quick walk down to the river. There isn’t a trail or anything along the river but it looks like a nice place to fish - some people were fishing out of it further up along the campground. There’s a little road noise from highway 20, but in such a convenient location, that’s what you get. Would definitely stay here again!

One of the best places I have stayed

My stay here was just for one night in August but it is a great relaxing place. During the day you could here the highway a little but it wasn’t something that I could here often. I look forward to going back again soon and hopefully staying a little longer next time.

Buffalo Campground, ID--Great Campground

My boy and I headed up to Island Park for Father's Day '19 for a few days of camping and fly fishing. As we first got into the campground, a moose was grubbing on some shrubs. Found our camping spot and no one was around except for a few campers.

Our spot was very spacious and had some cover from the Aspen and Pine trees. Big driveway. There are bear boxes every few spots to share if needed. Our camp host told us that the area received about 11' of snow by Jan and when they arrived beg of May, there was still 4' of snow on the ground. The area had a lot of standing water still in June, which bred massive amounts of mosquitos. The first thing the host said to us was his apologies for the mosquitos.

After lathering with repellant, we headed to the Buffalo river for some fly fishing. It was my 8 year old's first time fly fishing and this river is perfect for first-timers. Most areas are about 2-3' deep with some deeper holes. We arrived at the river just in time for a massive Caddis fly hatch and he landed himself a few 10" trout. We spent the next few days fishing up and down the river, where we caught about 17 trout between us. It made for a perfect camping trip minus the mosquitos.

Beautiful views

This campground had everything we needed and could easily accomodate two tents and a camper. We had a spot right on the river and felt like we had the place to ourselves. Conveniently located near Ponds lodge if you want to grab dinner and drinks!
