Fanning Springs State Park encompasses this Florida state park campground along the Suwannee River, managed by the FL Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Recreation and Parks. The facility operates with strict reservation requirements and enforced regulations that rangers actively monitor.
The campground centers around a single primitive site positioned on the bank above the boat launch, accommodating groups up to eight people. One fire ring serves the site, with restrooms and water access located a short walk away. The cold water shower provides the only bathing option on-site. "Primitive site (located on bank above launch) is not far from the river," notes Jeanene A., describing the waterfront positioning.
Five fully furnished cabins with fireplaces require advance booking and carry a two-night minimum stay during peak periods. Summer months bring crowds to the spring, while winter offers opportunities to observe manatees in the warmer waters. The park charges $6 for vehicle entrance and provides marked trails through oak-dominated terrain, though GPS navigation proves unreliable for first-time visitors.
Campers seeking additional overnight options can explore camping spots near Fanning Springs. The location appeals most to paddlers arriving by kayak and those prioritizing direct river access over developed amenities.
