    COE Lavon Lake Lavonia

    Great for something close by

Nothing to knock you socks off, but it’s a great campsite close to home and nice for a quick getaway. Has the feel of being somewhat remote since it’s out by the lake.

We’ve camped in the site with the horse stables and put the tents with questionable rain flys in the horse stable.

Fairfield Lake State Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

    Lost on the trails

Ok they need a better map for these trails. I got a bit turned around and ended up off trailing it in the right direction to go back. The lake had some nice inlets to paddle. The campground was nice, but there were some erosion issues due to past flooding.

    American RV Park

This is a city RV Park

This is mainly a city RV/camper campsite that sits right on the outskirts of the town of Corsicana. Very close to Navarro College. So if you wanted to visit the college or the town of Corsicana this would be a great RV site. No views of anything except the highway. Not a vacation site, more of a need to stop for awhile site.

Fairfield Lake State Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

    Fairfield Lake: spring favorite

Fairfield offers a great weekend getaway location! The park boasts a large selection of shaded camp spots (i.e. lots of space for hammocks!) that offer privacy from one another. Visited on a holiday weekend, and it didn't feel crowded at all. Walk down to the lake or explore several miles of walking trails. Perfect night out! As a bonus, visit the Cooper Farms store right across the highway (exit 198) for the best fresh peaches and peach ice cream you've ever tasted!

    Waxahachie Creek Park

    Close to Nature

I wish I could rate this campground higher because it was so peaceful with quite a bit of bushy vegetation to provide a small measure of privacy between sites. This is as close to nature as one can get in a campground!  There was poison ivy on the trees next to us and in the mowed ground around the campsite.  There were so many butterflies, flies, and other flying insects on the sunny side of our RV that it made entering and exiting through the sliding door very difficult. And, the ANTS! After one night in our site, the ants had formed an active trail to the top of our RV. Consequently, we had ants inside the RV!

The roads inside the campground need to be repaved.

The camp host and the park ranger were both very friendly and informative.

Fairfield Lake State Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

One of my favorite Texas State Parks!

On our spring 2017 RV adventure we spent two nights RV camping at Fairfield Lake State Park. Fairfield Lake State Park is such a beautiful place to camp, fish and swim. We realy enjoy this stunning park! The campground at Fairfield Lake State Park is heavily treed and very well shaded. Thanks to being located on a power plant lake Fairfield Lake State Park has great fishing! Stocked with Red Drum, Bass, catfish and even Blue Tilapia there is a fish for everyone! Fairfield Lake State Park is one of my favorite Texas State Parks! You will not regret spending any amount of time visiting Fairfield Lake State Park.

I have several videos of this great park on my YouTube ....DudeRV.com

Fairfield Lake State Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

    Nice lake

Nice park , long drive after entering the park 2 to 3 miles to the campsite. Good for cycling.Hiking was a nice shady walk good tree cover , but not enough clearing to see some locations on the lake, there’s some man-made paths but check your legs for ticks when you come out of those. Overall a nice park, no AT&T or T-Mobile connection, except if you go to the boat ramp top of the hill you’ll get a signal there.6/14/2020. $20 one night. AT&T no bars --T-Mobil no bars.

    Liberty Hill Park Campground

Really Nice Campground, BUT my God the ants!

Liberty hill is a very beautiful campground but there is a serius issue with the invasive Argentian ant. This is a great campground to spend a few days or weeks relaxing and catching fish. Lake Navarro Mills is well know as the best Crappie fishing lake in Texas. Navarro Mills Liberty Hill Park features a fantastic fishing barge that is covered allowing you to fish no matter the weather. Our visit to Liberty Hill Park at Navarro Mills Lake was a real treat with one minor exception, Argentine Ants, these can be a real issue when RV camping at Liberty Hill Park as this invasive species is out of control at Liberty Hill Park. Pretty park, crowded sites

This park is beautiful with lots of areas to explore. The camp sites are all in one location and are very close to one another. Some sites are awesome while others are kind of awful, unfortunately. We were in site 004 and it wasn't great. There wasn't a good spot for a tent or a hammock. However, site 005 was much better. The sites that are listed as next to the bathrooms are RIGHT next to the bathrooms.

Guide to Mabank

Campgrounds near Mabank, Texas typically feature level sites with water views on surrounding lakes including Cedar Creek Reservoir, Lake Lavon, and Bardwell Lake. The region has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers reaching 95-100°F in July and August, while winter temperatures drop to around 35-40°F. Camping areas maintain basic facilities throughout the summer months when waterfront sites become most popular with weekend visitors.

What to do

Fishing access: High View Park offers quality lake fishing from the shoreline. According to Dani K., "Very pretty lake views and tons of grass. My dog loved going for runs through the grass (while on her leash)." The park provides electrical hookups and covered picnic tables near fishing spots.

Lake swimming: Mott Bardwell Lake features designated swimming areas with clean water and mowed grass. A camper notes, "Clean lake, no broken glass, mowed grass. We love going out there and cooking, swimming, hiking, camping." Swimming access points are maintained throughout summer months.

Boating opportunities: Northside RV Resort provides boat access with a man-made lake and trails. According to Marilea G., "The park has a man made lake with jogging trails. We enjoyed our stay." Boat ramps remain accessible for most of the year, with some restrictions during winter months.

What campers like

Clean bathroom facilities: Liberty Hill Park Campground maintains well-kept restrooms and shower facilities. One camper reported, "Extremely clean grounds and super friendly staff. Allows pets (on leash of course). Our site had power and electric only, but I believe some sites also have sewer." Bathroom facilities remain open year-round at most locations.

Security measures: Multiple parks feature regular security patrols. At High View, Derrick A. notes, "Local sheriff's dept and park ranger made several trips through the park which made it feel secure. Bathroom facilities were clean." Most campgrounds close gates at night with specific entry restrictions.

Equestrian considerations: While horse campgrounds near Mabank, Texas are limited, some nearby areas permit horseback riding on designated trails. No campgrounds in the immediate area feature dedicated equestrian camping with horse corrals, though day-use riding is possible at certain locations. Campers seeking horseback accommodations should call ahead to confirm current policies.

What you should know

Gate restrictions: Highview Park enforces strict gate closing times that can impact late arrivals. Reagan K. warns, "If you're looking for a late night stop, this isn't it. Gates lock at 10 pm. We couldn't get in." No provisions exist for after-hours entry.

Tent camping limitations: Some parks restrict tent camping on weekends. At Oak Cove Marina, Rachel J. discovered, "We drove all over the park and could not find a designated area for tents. We finally stopped at the restaurant/convenient store/bait shop and asked where are the tent sites. He asked when we wanted to stay and we gave him the dates. He then informed us they do not allow tents during the weekend."

Insect concerns: Several locations report significant ant problems during warmer months. At Liberty Hill Park Campground, Eric S. cautions, "Ants are bad, Argentine ants are very bad because they're small. Once they're in your car you just take them everywhere." Bringing ant prevention supplies is recommended from April through October.

Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: Lavonia Lavon Lake offers wide open spaces for children. Brian notes, "It's a great campsite close to home and nice for a quick getaway. Has the feel of being somewhat remote since it's out by the lake." Some visitors report playground equipment has been removed at certain parks.

Kid-friendly fishing spots: Oak Cove Marina provides fishing opportunities for children, though activities may be limited. Michaela L. shares, "My husband had a blast fishing there with his buddies and we had a good boat ride but there wasn't a whole lot for our kid to do. We managed though and we do plan on going back, but we will definitely be bringing more activities for our children."

Safety considerations: Maintaining regular supervision around water areas is essential. At Waxahachie Creek Park, campsite placement may require additional vigilance as Jeanette W. notes, "This is as close to nature as one can get in a campground! There was poison ivy on the trees next to us and in the mowed ground around the campsite."

Tips from RVers

Site levelness: American RV Park provides level concrete sites with full hookups. Russ G. reports, "Staff were pleasant, check in was fast and easy. Hook-ups are in good condition. Site is concrete." Most parks feature 30/50 amp electrical connections.

Reservation policies: Campgrounds often require advance booking, especially during summer months. At Northside RV Resort, one RVer cautions about reading terms carefully: "Throughout the online reservation process nothing is disclosed regarding the terms and conditions. After they take and accept your money, they email you a link to the terms and conditions." Cancellation fees typically range from $14-50.

Spacing between sites: Layout and privacy vary significantly between parks. At American RV Park, William N. observes, "Our site was level and had some shade. Spacing between sites was fine. Not too close together." Most campgrounds feature sites spaced 20-40 feet apart with varying degrees of natural screening.
