    Gulf Waters RV Resort

    Steps from the beach

Stayed here when a freak cold front came through complete with gale force winds. Although the internet service was effected, all other utilities remained online thankfully! As other reviews may have mentioned, this resort is comprised of privately owned lots, upgraded by the owners, and these are rented out when available. The site I stayed in was level, sewer 30/50 amp, water, and had a tiki hut with a wet sink, but I didn’t use the latter much because of the cold snap.

The resort sits in the middle of Mustang Island, so no walking to Padre or Port A. However, this makes it quiet and it is well cared for. I especially appreciated the beautiful mature palm trees, landscaping and the clean bath house with nice showers. There’s a laundry on site. $2 per load and the office has quarters. It’s quiet and friendly. If you stay 1 week or more, then there is a meter reading for the electric, on top of the rental fee.

The highlight for me was the proximity of this resort to the beach. Just a short walk to the boardwalk over the dunes and you’re there! Just beautiful. Very clean beach with portable potties available.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Overused and it shows it

    Pros:

    • Super friendly Park Headquarters personnel

l• Great aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion

    • Site aluminum picnic table on concert pad under a tree

    • Park entrance gate closed 10 pm to 7 am, but an access code was provided at check-in

    • Toilet/shower clean, but just worn out and desperately needing renovation

    • Great CCC-constructed pavilion

    • 3 bars AT&T cell service

    • Howling coyotes nightly

    Cons:

    • Overused park that desperately needs some infrastructure improvements

    • Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer

    • Septic system cleanout pipe smack in the middle of our campsite causing a tripping hazard

    • Metal fire pit with cooking grate was overflowing with ash upon arrival

    • No vegetation between sites= no privacy from neighbors

    • Constant vehicle traffic through campground loop• Toilets were difficult to flush and clogged easily.

    • Toilet/shower building interior walls crumbling exposing the structure

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

Nice place for a weekend getaway!

Lake Corpus Christie is a beautiful place where you can camp and enjoy water activities but if you enjoy hiking this is not the place. Unfortunately, it lacks hiking trails. There are plenty of spacious campsites next to the water where you can enjoy laying in a hammock, campfires, and grilling but lacks privacy. Catfish Cove offers water only sites but other areas offer water electricity, full hook-up sites, or enclosed shelters with AC. While we enjoyed camping here there is an over abundance of stickers that we had to continually pull out of the dogs paws.

    Goose Island State Park Campground

Quieter & Private in the Wooded Area

The wooded area camping loops wind through lovely groves of Texas Live Oak, and Loblolly Pine, which make great habitat for winter warblers. The sites are spacious and set reasonably apart from each other to offer some privacy. Most campsites offer water and electricity. These sites are MUCH quieter than the Bayfront sites, which are plagued by loud boat engine traffic.  This area is much for secluded, thus not alot of walk/drive by traffic going through.

The bathroom building with internal hot-water shower stalls was relatively clean and updated. The area is great for all kinds of low-key activities like fishing, biking, walking, paddling etc. I wouldn’t go here if I had my heart set on swimming, though. The water is relatively shallow and in the middle of a massive oyster colony, pretty sharp edges on those bi-valves, so be careful.

One of the best activities, especially during the winter months, is birding. The area is the winter home to the endangered Whooping Cranes, Sandhill Cranes, Spoonbills and many, many more. Grab your binoculars and your birding guide!

    Goose Island State Park Campground

    LOVED this campground

I’ve been to about 10 different campgrounds this year on several different states. Goose island state park is by far the best. This time we stayed in the wooded area. I didn’t think I would like it (I loved the waterfront sites) but I loved it. The sites are a good distance apart and have new paved driveways that are very level. There is a pole for hanging lightning and a campfire pit. There is electricity and water. We are in site 115 and I have cell service which makes me very happy. I don’t think the site numbers 200’s have cell service as they are father in. It’s quiet and dark at night. The site has woods and trees behind so it’s very private. It can hold a pretty big rig. Ours is only 26 ft but it can hold much bigger. This site is fabulous. The weather is great and there are tons of things to do in the area. Book it! We are coming back.

    Gulf Waters RV Resort

    Beautiful Place

It's a great place to stay !!! Staff is nice and very helpful. Showers are clean. Every lot is different and some are very unique !!! I would venture to say that they all have different owners and some are for sale. The best part is the short walk or golf cart ride to the beach and ocean!!! Now for the downside of this place that we have found ! Mosquitoes in the evenings and mornings are intense especially around the ponds and grassy areas. So if you have pets be prepared to get eaten !!! The pet areas are close to the ponds and are small to say the least !!! The pet areas are scattered around the camp sites. Some are close to some of the campers. There are two vacant lots on the very Eastside of the property that are ok. The problem with these are that they have stickers (sand burrs)and if you have small hairy dogs it could be a horrible experience for your pet!!!

There are some full time owners/ residents/ guests. We have found a mix of campers. From the $30 k to the over $500 k plus crowd. Some people are friendly and some are not!!!! There is a private vibe to most of the crowd we feel!!!

You can also rent golf carts and drive them to Port A. You will have to drive them on the beach if you want to go to town on them. They are not allowed on the Highway !!

These are just our opinions and what we have experienced !! Have a great camping experience!!! That is all!!!

Malaquite Campground - Padre Island National Seashore

    Miles of amazing beauty

Make sure to fill up on gas, water and ice before heading out on the 63 miles of available beach! You can drive for hours along sparkling waves with shell laden sand, passing isolated camps and groups fishing. If you want privacy, this is it! You must take all you need The cell reception is spotty, around mile 25.5 if you walk towards the bayside you’ll get a signal best with Verizon, and at Mansfield Cut. Any Texas beach camping is not for the inexperienced... BEACHES ARE WINDY, CAMP LIKE YOU’RE IN A TORNADO! METAL POLE TENTS WITH SAND RATED STAKES, & SECURE EVERYTHING!! Solar yard lights are great to set perimeters to late night drivers. There are jellyfish, wear long pants or bring meat tenderizer for the stings!! The Turtle Patrol passes several times a day. Yes there is strewn garbage, it’s deposited every high tide from all around the world, bring a rake, garbage bag and a reality check. People do speed, pay attention. Showers, dumpsters and toilets are only at the entrance to the beach/Malaquite Visitors Center. This is our favorite place to go because of the privacy, beauty and the fishing. Nights are gorgeous with starry skies, waves, and a fire. Make the time to check this place out, sit and pretend you’re the only person on your private island, you will be hooked!

Guide to Ingleside

Ingleside sits on the Texas Coastal Bend between Corpus Christi Bay and Aransas Bay. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters with occasional cold fronts. Most glamping accommodations close to Ingleside, Texas are situated within 30 miles of the city, providing convenient access to both mainland attractions and barrier island beaches.

What to do

Fishing at Lake Corpus Christi: Lake Corpus Christi State Park offers both shoreline fishing and boat access. "The campground has a good view of the water and is near the fishing pier," notes one visitor. The park features "a great aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion" for convenient catch preparation.

Wildlife watching at Goose Island: Bird enthusiasts can spot numerous coastal species at Goose Island State Park Campground. "Did see a Whooping Crane. Stayed on the bay side," shares a camper. Another visitor mentions: "Lots of birds, deer, and fishing. I see attraction of the beach front, but the wooded area is really nice with private sites."

Beach access from Port Aransas: Gulf Waters RV Resort provides convenient beach access. A camper reports: "I could live here! Beautiful park. Sites are individually owned. Rent a beach buggy and have a blast!" The resort sits on Mustang Island with direct beach access.

What campers like

Private wooded sites: Goose Island State Park offers secluded camping areas. "We really enjoyed staying in the wooded area of the park. Most spaces are very private because of the thick plant life," shares one visitor. Another camper adds, "While there are some low branches, I was able to carefully maneuver into #125 with my tall fifth wheel."

Customized glamping sites: The individually owned lots at Gulf Waters RV Resort create unique glamping close to Ingleside, Texas. "Sites are individually owned. Rent a beach buggy and have a blast!" reports one guest. Another mentions their site "had a tiki hut with a wet sink," showing the personalized amenities available.

Affordability: Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground offers budget-friendly options. "Only $25 for full hookups, $15 for just water and electric, $10 for tents, $5 day fee. Lots of shade, lots of room in the FCU sites," shares a camper. Another visitor appreciated the "very large spacious campsite" with "restroom and shower located very close by."

What you should know

Airport noise considerations: When booking glamping accommodations near Ingleside, be aware of potential noise issues. At Wilderness Oaks RV Resort, one camper notes: "It is an Airport near here, and they take off every 3 to 5 minutes! If that is not enough, then you have the major Hiway next to you!"

Weather and drainage concerns: Some areas experience flooding during rain events. A Wilderness Oaks visitor reported: "RV park, especially on eastern half, has seriously poor drainage. We were trapped in our RV lot, unable to leave, because the water was too deep."

Seasonal wind patterns: Coastal winds can impact camping experience. A Goose Island visitor shares: "We hit some big wind 3/21/22. We were in the beach front with waves crashing over so we got lucky and moved to the wooded area."

Tips for camping with families

Seek shaded sites: Texas heat makes shade essential. "Lots of shade, lots of room in the FCU sites," notes a Lake Corpus Christi camper. Another visitor mentions camping "site 60/61. Beautiful grounds. Lake walking distance."

Child-friendly activities: Goose Island State Park Campground offers diverse activities for children. "Right next to wildlife refuge, convenient to lots of beaches. Visited in winter for birding. Make sure to see 'The Big Tree' which is a short drive/bike ride away," suggests one visitor.

Watch for stickers and thorns: Prepare appropriate footwear. At Lake Corpus Christi, one camper warned about "an over abundance of stickers that we had to continually pull out of the dogs paws," which applies to children's feet as well.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger rigs: At Goose Island, "watch out for low tree branches if you're staying in the wooded areas. If you're staying in the wooden area, stay on the outer loop if you're a big rig," advises an experienced RVer.

Digital connectivity considerations: Connectivity varies between campgrounds. At Gulf Waters Resort, "internet service was effected" during a storm, while another camper at Lake Corpus Christi reported "T-Mobile phone signal was good, and I had TV reception."

Seasonal booking patterns: Secure reservations well in advance for winter glamping near Ingleside. "Great trip over Christmas. Sites and clean and well maintained. Book way in advance," shares a Gulf Waters visitor who traveled during peak season.
