    Choke Canyon Estate RV Park

    Decent for short term

Ok for short stay or if you are a worker and not in the park a lot. Road nice is really loud even in the back of the park. Construction company behind is loud too. Laundry and rec room were nice. Several dogs run loose through the park. Be prepared to pick up poop so you don't step in it. Crawfish shrimp and crab stand on the weekend makes great food. Dog area isn't fenced so if your dog is a runner this won't hold them.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Great Camping area

Great camping area. Pull through camping pads. Clean sites fire ring grill combos. Nice lake clean restrooms. Small town is really close if you need something. T-Mobile phone signal was good, and I had TV reception.

    EZ Living RV Park

    Oasis on the Lake

An affordable quiet campground on the lake in South Texas. Beautfiul oak trees and sites are nicely kept. A perfect place place to fish and very pet friendly. No extra fees for people or pets.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Labor Day Weekend

Clean campground, was very windy right off the lake in spot 063. But quick access to the beach and fishing were nice. Picnic table was gross with bird droppings all over it and the concrete pad. Bathrooms were hit or miss. Men’s was clean and usable, women’s was ok but got worse throughout the day and evening and unusable (toilets were clogged) by the evening.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

Nice park for a stopover visit

Very small Pull through sites (with very sharp turns). No good hiking trails. Seems great for boating or fishing, though. Good location for visiting Corpus.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Great State Park!

We enjoyed our one night at Corpus Christi State Park.  As with other state parks, it's a bargain, especially with the State Parks Pass.  We had a nice pull through site with a  view of the lake and the marina.  The covered picnic table was nice and we were able to use the grill to make a great dinner.  The sunset was spectacular. We would return to this quiet and beautiful setting anytime.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Overused and it shows it

    Pros:

    • Super friendly Park Headquarters personnel

l• Great aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion

    • Site aluminum picnic table on concert pad under a tree

    • Park entrance gate closed 10 pm to 7 am, but an access code was provided at check-in

    • Toilet/shower clean, but just worn out and desperately needing renovation

    • Great CCC-constructed pavilion

    • 3 bars AT&T cell service

    • Howling coyotes nightly

    Cons:

    • Overused park that desperately needs some infrastructure improvements

    • Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer

    • Septic system cleanout pipe smack in the middle of our campsite causing a tripping hazard

    • Metal fire pit with cooking grate was overflowing with ash upon arrival

    • No vegetation between sites= no privacy from neighbors

    • Constant vehicle traffic through campground loop• Toilets were difficult to flush and clogged easily.

    • Toilet/shower building interior walls crumbling exposing the structure

    Choke Canyon State Park Campground

    Nice and quiet.

We stopped for the night on the way into North Padre Island. It was a perfect stop after a long day of driving. The sites are large and well spaced. With 50 amp power and water at each site as well as a dump station at the entrance, it has all we need. And it was fun listening to an owl just after sunset.

Guide to Calliham

RV campgrounds near Calliham, Texas provide convenient access to Choke Canyon Reservoir, with most facilities open year-round despite South Texas's hot summers. The region experiences mild winters with daytime temperatures averaging 60-75°F from December through February, making it popular with winter travelers. Elevation across most campgrounds ranges from 150-300 feet above sea level, creating relatively flat terrain suitable for various RV sizes.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Choke Canyon Reservoir spans 26,000 acres with largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie fishing. EZ Living RV Park provides access points, though one camper noted, "The fishing marina has closed for 2 years. The only thing you can use is the boat ramp. You can't fish from the bank."

Local cuisine sampling: Several parks are within driving distance of local food vendors. At Choke Canyon Estate RV Park, campers mention weekend seafood options: "Crawfish, shrimp, and crab stand on the weekend makes great food."

Regional exploration: Use campgrounds as bases for day trips. One reviewer at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort shared: "Driving distance to Corpus, Port Aransas, Padre, Victoria, King ranch. We visited all these places. Right next to Corpus Christi Lake & park."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Several parks maintain well-kept common areas. One camper at Bar M RV Park remarked, "Super friendly check-in office staff. Propane on site, large laundry. Gated and clean. Everything I needed."

Seasonal programming: Winter visitors particularly appreciate organized activities. A camper noted, "The staff is great for scheduling entertainment, outings, cleaning, and security. Bathrooms, showers, laundry are up to date and clean. Very nice game room, meeting area, and kitchen."

Shade coverage: Trees provide natural cooling in the hot climate. At Choke Canyon Estate RV Park, one camper appreciated: "One thing that I appreciate is that I was able to put my teardrop underneath a tree, which gave it extra shade. That will give my air conditioner a break."

What you should know

Variable cell service: Connectivity fluctuates significantly between campgrounds. A camper at Choke Canyon Estate RV Park reported: "There's a 4G network here with a T-Mobile cell phone service. One bar. It sucks. No Wi-Fi service. TV reception is okay. I was able to pick up San Antonio channels."

Noise considerations: Some parks experience significant road or industrial noise. One review warned: "Road noise is really loud even in the back of the park. Construction company behind is loud too."

Pet policies: Rules regarding dogs vary widely. One Mathis Motor Inn & RV Park visitor mentioned: "Pet friendly. The friendly German Shepherd was a bonus since we had our pets out and seems to be unbothered by them."

Maintenance issues: Quality varies between parks. A candid review noted: "There are loose dogs running around. My dog almost got jumped on. The RV sites are too close to each other. It is mostly a place if you're going to live there."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Only select campgrounds offer swimming facilities. One camper at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort mentioned the "salt water pool" as an amenity, while another park visitor noted: "Wish the pool was open because we had to stay another night but we were told it will be ready soon."

Extended stay options: Many parks accommodate longer visits with monthly rates. A Wilderness Lakes RV Resort camper shared: "We stayed longterm, 4 months at a time. Prices are good, daily, weekly, monthly."

Concrete patios: Some parks provide sturdy outdoor spaces. One camper appreciated: "Real useful concrete patio with picnic table" at their campsite.

Security features: Gated access and speed controls enhance safety. A visitor noted: "Speed bumps and a very alert security keep the traffic at a good speed limit."

Laundry facilities: Availability and cleanliness vary widely. One camper appreciated "Bathrooms, showers, laundry are up to date and clean," while another warned: "The laundry machines are constantly dirty due to the large amount of people staying there."
