    Colonia Del Rey RV Park

    Convenient location!

Colonia Del Ray is a nice little park, nothing to fancy. We usually stay here when visiting family that lives in Flower Bluff. It is a very convenient location, about five minutes from an HEB and within thirty minutes of most of the Corpus Christi attractions. They have a lot of rental spots for such a small park, so there is not much room between you and your neighbors. If you going for a fun trip at the beach you wouldn’t be spending much time at your RV anyway.

The rate is forty bucks a night for an RV with free wi-fi and cable. The facilities are clean, but don’t expect much scenery. There are not many trees, but at least you can see the ocean. There are coin laundry machines, pool, playground, and a mini gated dog area. I believe they have rental cabins on one side of the park. It seems like locals use this park to post up their boats and RVs as well. You can make reservations online, and the owners of the place are very kind.

Flower Bluff is a great town with wonderful people. Make sure you check out some of the locally eateries. About two blocks from the park is a seafood restaurant located on the water with a huge deck. They have excellent food and it is in walking distance which is a plus! Also if you have kids take them to the U.S.S Lexington! It is so awesome and hands-on with airplanes on the top deck!

    Overused and it shows it

    Pros:

    • Super friendly Park Headquarters personnel

l• Great aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion

    • Site aluminum picnic table on concert pad under a tree

    • Park entrance gate closed 10 pm to 7 am, but an access code was provided at check-in

    • Toilet/shower clean, but just worn out and desperately needing renovation

    • Great CCC-constructed pavilion

    • 3 bars AT&T cell service

    • Howling coyotes nightly

    Cons:

    • Overused park that desperately needs some infrastructure improvements

    • Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer

    • Septic system cleanout pipe smack in the middle of our campsite causing a tripping hazard

    • Metal fire pit with cooking grate was overflowing with ash upon arrival

    • No vegetation between sites= no privacy from neighbors

    • Constant vehicle traffic through campground loop• Toilets were difficult to flush and clogged easily.

    • Toilet/shower building interior walls crumbling exposing the structure

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

Nice place for a weekend getaway!

Lake Corpus Christie is a beautiful place where you can camp and enjoy water activities but if you enjoy hiking this is not the place. Unfortunately, it lacks hiking trails. There are plenty of spacious campsites next to the water where you can enjoy laying in a hammock, campfires, and grilling but lacks privacy. Catfish Cove offers water only sites but other areas offer water electricity, full hook-up sites, or enclosed shelters with AC. While we enjoyed camping here there is an over abundance of stickers that we had to continually pull out of the dogs paws.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Great State Park!

We enjoyed our one night at Corpus Christi State Park.  As with other state parks, it's a bargain, especially with the State Parks Pass.  We had a nice pull through site with a  view of the lake and the marina.  The covered picnic table was nice and we were able to use the grill to make a great dinner.  The sunset was spectacular. We would return to this quiet and beautiful setting anytime.

Lake Corpus Christi state park June-2020

While the lake is beautiful, the park feels neglected. Our campsite #64 in the catfish cove campground was awful, not sure when they had last mowed, there were stickers/cockle burrs everywhere. We spent time pulling as many of those and high grass as we could, but still got them all in our shoes and socks. The shelter over the picnic table had many bird nests and the picnic table was nasty. The bathrooms were ok, the shower curtains had mold/mildew. We hiked the catfish point trail which had not been maintained. We went through the online process to rent a kayak, had some problems which were easily resolved.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Labor Day Weekend

Clean campground, was very windy right off the lake in spot 063. But quick access to the beach and fishing were nice. Picnic table was gross with bird droppings all over it and the concrete pad. Bathrooms were hit or miss. Men’s was clean and usable, women’s was ok but got worse throughout the day and evening and unusable (toilets were clogged) by the evening.

    Firefly Coastal Bend- Corpus Christi

The people at Firefly are CROOKS!

Good day- My name is John and my wife and I live in Dana, North Carolina... Just south of Asheville. Back in May, I had booked two(2) RV spots(one for us and one for dear friends coming in from California). I booked for a week, running from 5- 12 October, at a total(pre-paid) cost of$1,433. However, on Friday, 27 September(8 days before our trip), our region experienced Hurricane Helene. One hundred and twenty feet of our driveway was wiped out- totally washed away. The main road to our home was also washed away. Roads in and out of the area were destroyed and there were thousands of downed trees and power poles. The destruction was and remains hard to convey. We lost power and all communications for 13 days. We had no way in or out of our property for over a week. On Monday, 30 September, I was able to hike out to our local post office where I found I had one bar on my phone. I called family and friends, including the other couple that we were supposed to meet At the Firefly RV Resort. I explained the situation to them and asked them to call Firefly, cancel the reservation and,(given the circumstances) ask for a refund. The staff at Firefly were beyond rude and refused any consideration of a refund. When pressed on the matter by our friends, and stressing the dire conditions that all of North Carolina was facing, the Manager at Firefly told our friends the following-- and this is a direct quote:"Well, if the government would stop sending money to Ukraine, maybe they would have money to give to North Carolina." Enough said. I would strongly ask all conscientious RV-ers to BOYCOTT the Firefly RV Resort.

Guide to Alice

Lake Corpus Christi State Park provides cabin camping options 45 miles west of Alice, Texas. The cabins sit between 86-94 feet above sea level in a semi-arid region that receives approximately 30 inches of rainfall annually. Water levels in the lake fluctuate seasonally, affecting fishing conditions and boat launch access throughout the year.

What to do

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Lake Corpus Christi offers habitat for diverse wildlife. "We searched for wildlife and made s'mores. It was a good time!" notes a visitor to Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground. Another camper reports, "Saw turtles near it in the lake," highlighting the aquatic wildlife viewing possibilities.

Fishing access: Multiple fishing spots accommodate different preferences. "Great aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion," reports a visitor detailing the infrastructure available. The lake supports catfish, bass, and crappie depending on water levels and season.

Sunrise/sunset viewing: Waterfront cabin locations provide ideal viewing conditions. A visitor to Firefly Coastal Bend noted the "bay views, great sunrise and sunset" as highlights of their stay. Morning light offers the best photography conditions with fewer afternoon heat waves.

What campers like

Proximity to services: Cabin locations provide convenient access to supplies. "Small town is really close if you need something," reports a camper at Lake Corpus Christi. Another visitor to Colonia Del Rey RV Park appreciates that "it is a very convenient location, about five minutes from an HEB and within thirty minutes of most of the Corpus Christi attractions."

Animal encounters: Some properties feature unique wildlife opportunities. "There is a petting zoo with miniature donkeys and horses, goats and emus! This was a wonderful treat feeding the critters," reports a visitor to Mustang Hollow Campground.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathroom facilities supplement cabin amenities. A visitor reports, "Restroom and shower located very close by. Beautiful grounds." Another camper notes, "Bathrooms and showers are very clean."

What you should know

Water level fluctuations: Lake levels vary significantly throughout the year. "The lake is sometimes completely dry, but when there is water, it is quite expansive," reports one visitor. Another notes, "Water is really low so no boat access, still beaches though."

Off-season advantages: Winter and spring months offer fewer crowds and cooler temperatures. "This is a place usually only locals go to since it's not near enough to the major cities. It's clean and basic," one visitor explains about Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground.

Campsite privacy considerations: Site layout affects privacy between cabins. "No vegetation between sites = no privacy from neighbors," reports one visitor. Others note the tradeoff between centralized locations and quieter areas.

Tips for camping with families

Animal attractions: Seek properties with kid-friendly wildlife options. "We camped with 2 kids and a dog and had a great time. There was fishing and a lake some were swimming in," reports a visitor to Lake Corpus Christi State Park.

Be prepared for stickers: The native vegetation includes burrs that affect pets and children. "While we enjoyed camping here there is an over abundance of stickers that we had to continually pull out of the dogs paws," warns one visitor.

Playground availability: Some campgrounds advertise playgrounds that may not be operational. "Pictures show a playground, dog park, etc., however, none of these things exist. It looks like they did at one point, but not in the last decade," notes a visitor to Mustang Hollow Campground.

Tips from RVers

Size restrictions: Confirm pad dimensions before booking cabin sites. "Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer," reports one RVer about their experience.

Gate access codes: Most parks secure entrances overnight with code systems. "Park entrance gate closed 10 pm to 7 am, but an access code was provided at check-in," notes a camper detailing the security procedures.

Utility placement: Hookup locations may create hazards in some sites. "Septic system cleanout pipe smack in the middle of our campsite causing a tripping hazard," warns one visitor about potential safety concerns at certain cabin sites.
