    Land of Waterfalls RV Park

Great campground, lots of shade, friendly camp hosts

This campground is located 15 minutes to Brevard and Pisgah National Forest and 20 minutes to Hendersonville. DuPont State Park is nearby as well. Easy access to hiking trails and outdoor activities. Peaceful and quiet campground that is very well maintained. Camp hosts are very friendly and helpful! Check in and payment is all online. Dog friendly! Roomy sites with picnic tables and fire pits. Open year round. Stayed from November through April

Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

    Overall a Good Experience

Took the new pop-up to Kings Mountain State Park this past weekend and had a great time. The sites are pretty close together, but we still had adequate room to spread out. Each site has water, 30 amp electric, a picnic table, and a fire pit ring. Our site was a pull-through, but the majority of them are back-in. Throughout the campground, AT&T had great cell coverage, but Verizon was non-existent. Our site was a stone's throw from the bath/shower house, which was clean and recently updated. When not in the side, a short walk takes you to the Trading Post, a small store selling firewood ($7), ice, souvenirs, and sundries. Next to that is a large playground connected to a pavilion. A short 2 minute drive (or longer hike if you are feeling ambitious) takes you to the Kings Mountain Military Museum where you can learn of all things historical to Kings Mountain. There's a small model village and numerous other attractions to view while at the park as well. Overall this was a great experience. It's close to home for us, and the price was fantastic ($30 nightly). Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Spacious Skies Peach Haven

    Nice campground, lots of amenities.

Overall, this is a very nice, clean park conveniently located to the interstate I-85) and attractions in the area. It has all the amenities you would expect to find at a KOA such as a swimming pool, playground, dog park, miniature golf, store, clubhouse, and more (including goats). It is by far the nicest private campground in the area that we have stayed at.

This KOA has 127 sites offering varying degrees of services to accommodate RV's, tents, and those wanting to rent cabins. We chose a 50-amp full hook-up back-in site but were upgraded to a pull-thru so we could be in a sunny location to mitigate the chilly air. How nice of them! Our site (#79) was perfectly level as were most others (but not all). Water, electric, and cable hook-ups were well placed at the site and worked fine. We paid $37/night(with the KOA member discount). Nice, large grassy area for dogs to walk and sniff and there is a decent size dog park.  Roads and pads are hard packed gravel with grass in between sites. Some sites are set in a wooded area while some are out in the open with plenty of sun and satellite coverage. The park is big rig friendly and the roads are easily navigable. All sites have a picnic table and some had fire pits but ours did not. Cable is included and offered over 50 channels. Wifi worked well at our site.  The laundry was small with three washers and three dryers but very clean and had a decent book exchange. The bathroom and showers were super clean and looked like they were updated recently.

The campground is extremely clean and the owners/employees are super friendly. There is a short hiking trail (less than a mile) through the woods and plenty of green space in front of some of the pull-thrus. playground large swimming pool with large deck putt putt with lots of goat humor.

The only downside would be the closeness of sites but that is pretty much what you expect from private RV parks. Fortunately, we did not have neighbors right next to us which gave us more space. I'm usually not a KOA fan but have to say this one was great for our overnight stay and we would recommend it.

    Mile Creek County Park

My Favorite Campground in South Carolina

Having lived in South Carolina most my life, I haven't seen it all.. but have seen a lot of it. Mile Creek Campground is a string of 3 islands connect by narrow straights and surrounded by water. It's hard to get a spot here without great views of Lake Keowee and the Blueridge Mountains.

The spaces a are a mix of full concrete pads or gravel sites. We've stayed in several sites and while some are very close together (that RV park feeling), there are many which have lots of breathing room, and things feel more natural. The pics in this review are for site 51, which is on the "3rd island," which is the furthest out and offers the best views. This is a very level concrete spot and we only had to use the electric tongue jack on our trailer to level front to back. Got set up in under 5 minutes.

There is one oddity to some of the concrete sites. Because it's concrete, your fire pit is off to the side. And since most of the sites are raised, your fire pit may be level with the concrete pad, but you can't sit next to it as there is too much slope.

It's a county park and is well maintained. Bath houses are clean. With it having a public day use area with a nice boat dock, you can expect almost every morning @ 6am to hear the diehard fishing folks blasting out of the boat launch area.

We have Verizon and our cell signal has always been 4 to 5 bars on the outside third island.

All sites have 30amp electric and water hookups. Dump station at the front of campground entrance up on a hill. BE AWARE, pulling into the dump station is easy, but the steeper exit will have longer RV's and Trailers dragging their bag end on the asphalt.

We've always felt safe and relaxed here. And though we prefer more dispersed camping with less neighbors, this is still one of the best and most affordable ($25 in off season) places in South Carolina to camp.

We rarely give 5-stars, but due to the awesome views,  trees between the sites and being well wooded & surrounded by water... it really is a very nice place.

From what I can tell, all but two sites are back in. We had no problem backing in our 23'8" (total length) camper in.

Pisgah National Forest Davidson River Campground

Hiking, Waterfalls, Fishing, Biking + Even Ice Cream

    OVERVIEW

    • No Water/Sewer Hookups on Any Site

    • Electric Hookup Sites Limited

    • WiFi/Cell Signal Limited[Booster Recommended]

    • Kid Friendly

    • Dog Friendly

    • Bath Facilities On-site

    LOCATION

The location is incredible! We enjoyed the accessibility of hiking, biking and fishing right from the campground. ART LOEB trailhead is right outside the campground entrance and is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. Several loops and even sites provide access to the river for fishing. Just outside the campground are endless trails and several beautiful waterfalls that can be accessed within a 5-15 min car ride. Convenient to a few restaurants, grocery stores and even a Walmart (which is slightly dodgy so be warned).

    SITE

014 WOAK site is an RV site. It’s spacious and very private. We loved how much room we had to spread out and entertain as we were traveling with several other camping families. Our site was the go to spot! Backing in wasn’t difficult. It was convenient that the pull through site across from us was vacant, this made backing in super easy. There are no hookups on this site. So be sure you have a generator! One bonus on the location of this site is the water access just feet away. We needed to fill up and had forgot to do so when we pulled in to the campground. What a relief to see a water access just steps from the campsite! The only downside was that generator hours are very limited. If you are traveling during warmer months or must have AC, this is not the site for you. We felt that the tree coverage really provided us protection from the heat and did very well without AC in early August.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Slide Rock is a natural water slide that is fun for the whole family. Yes… it’s COLD and honestly worth every moment of chilly suffering.

    • Hiking is abundant and all levels are accessible within minutes to a few miles of the campsite. Our favorites are: Looking Glass Falls (steps going down make this a breeze), Moore Cove Falls is a MUST and an easy trail that leads to the perfect waterfall for a good photo, Looking Glass Rock is a moderate to difficult hike and worth it. Looking Glass Rock is a long hike so be prepared to go early and bring a rain jacket.

    • Fishing right within the campground makes it perfect for an early morning or late afternoon activity. The hatchery is nearby and offers some wonderful opportunities to catch and release. Be sure to look in to a guided tour for a hands on experience filled with lots of educational info on local fish.

    • Biking is a top activity for lots of overnight and day campers. The Art Loeb Trail provides endless miles that proves fun for the whole family.

    • Ice Cream at Dolly’s should make your list if you love a refreshing treat. This iconic little stop if right by the entrance to the Pisgah Forest and just around the corner from the campground. Also a great spot for a cell signal!

    • Breweries aren’t hard to find nearby. Small microbreweries are within a few minutes and Sierra Nevada Brewery is 25 minutes away.

    DON’T FORGET

    • Generator (in case your site doesn’t offer electric)
    • Headlamps and Flashlights (tree coverage is heavy so it gets darker faster)
    • Fishing Poles
    • Rain Jackets (it rained almost daily in the afternoon)
    • Cordless Leaf Blower (for removing leaves from slide outs)

    Mile Creek County Park

    A hidden gem!

This campground sets on a peninsula into Lake Keowee and offers gorgeous views of the lake and mountains in the distance.  While possible for big rigs, it can be a challenge in some areas.  The sites are mostly in the 30-35 foot range and most are back in, fairly level and offer 30/20 electric and water.  Picnic tables and fire rings are on the sites, but unfortunately most of the sites do not offer a lot of usable area around the site.  A few sites near the boat ramp are unparalleled in their view of the lake and mountains and reservation planning is a must if these are wanted.  Being far out in the country the cell service isn't so good and according to where you are even over the air TV is spotty.  A nice boat ramp and swimming beach are available, as are bath houses centrally located.  The camp store was closed due to Covid when we stayed, but there are kayak and canoe rentals.  The dump station was easily accessed and very clean. There are cabins, but we did not look at them.  All in all, this is a very nice campground for families or couples wanting a getaway.

    Keowee-Toxaway State Park

Small / Quiet / Good Location

Stayed here for more than a week in early January and enjoyed it.  There's a bunch of nice state parks in upstate SC - this one is about 10 minutes from both Table Rock and Devil's Fork.  Nearest town with major stores is Pickens, SC.  Greenville is about 45 minutes.

    *Navigation*
The state park website mentions that rigs over 40ft will have trouble.  I think 40ft is conservative, but 50ft+ could definitely be problematic.  My truck plus trailer is 43ft and it was tight but manageable.  The problem area for larger rigs will likely be the curves before and after the dump station/restrooms (sharp turns plus elevation drop).  It will be difficult to fit in dump station area with a larger rig as well.

    *Internet*

Verizon 5G was blazing fast here on my Pepwave - literally over 100mbps download. Starlink was able to connect, but obviously wasn't very useable due to trees.

    *Site*

I stayed in #3 which was definitely one of the better sites there.  Easy back in with very private views looking out towards Lake Keowee & Jocassee.  In summertime you probably won't be able to see much with the foliage.  Used levelling blocks, but it wasn't bad.

    *Facilities*
Restrooms were older but clean.  Showers had hot water.  As mentioned, dump station is right in front of bathrooms.  No laundry.

    Keowee-Toxaway State Park

    A lovely State Park Campground

I had no trouble backing in my site with my 20ft travel trailer. I saw a couple of 5th wheels here. I don’t know if I would try it with class A. I don’t know if there allowed here. The road is gravel and hilly. My pad was pretty close to level a little worn but paved. It had 30 amp power and water no sewer. There is a dump station on site located across from the bathhouse which I did use since the hot water in my trailer wasn’t working. It was very clean and the shower was hot. There are about 5 miles of hiking trail accessible from the campsite. They are well maintained and includes some lovely rock formations waterfalls rhododendrons and wildflowers. Other trails follow along the shore of Lake Keowee. There is very nice stepped put in for kayaking. We brought our two dogs and there were other dogs in the park. There’s no designated dog area so as long you keep them on lead or under control and clean up after them I don’t anyone would have a problem. If you need to go to a town it’s about a 20 mile trip. We took a trip to Easley for lunch at Tropical Burger. They also have a Home Depot, Publics and Dollar General.

Guide to Landrum

Campgrounds near Landrum, South Carolina offer diverse accommodations for RV travelers throughout the year. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains at around 1,100 feet elevation, this area experiences moderate temperatures with distinct seasons, making spring and fall particularly popular for rv camping near Landrum, South Carolina. Winter camping is also available at select locations like Maple Ridge RV Park which maintains year-round operations with its 16 full hookup sites.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds maintain stocked ponds or lake access for guests. Wilderness Cove Campground offers river access with excellent fishing spots. The tent camping is not quite 'roughing it': there's pretty reliable WiFi and the bath house is air conditioned and kept very clean," reports one camper.

Explore nearby attractions: Many campsites serve as convenient bases for visiting regional destinations. Rutledge Lake RV Resort is well-positioned for day trips. "We stayed here 2 nights to experience Asheville. We tow a vehicle so driving the 15 minutes into town wasn't a big deal for us. It's affordable and they are helpful getting you into your spots," notes one visitor.

Water recreation: Multiple options exist for swimming and boating near camping facilities. One guest at Hitching Post Campground mentioned, "Chimney rock town and Lake Lure both have nearby shopping at small stores, tons of places to eat nearby, oh don't forget the waterfalls and botanical bridge gardens, tons to do here."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathhouses are consistently praised across multiple properties. A visitor to Lakewood RV Resort commented, "Showers were clean, and nice and roomy. Camp sites are a little closer together and not very private, but everyone is super respectful."

Friendly management: Many reviewers highlight helpful staff who assist with site selection and local information. "We had a great stay! Greg was very helpful at leading us back and gave us great information about the area. Bathrooms were always very clean, laundry room was spacious and clean, office staff was kind and helpful," shared one Rutledge Lake RV Resort visitor.

Dog amenities: Several campgrounds offer dedicated spaces for pets. "They have several pull through spots along with the permanent folks that live in the campground. What you should know

Site placement challenges: Hookup locations can vary significantly between campgrounds and even between sites within the same park. A visitor to Hitching Post Campground noted, "We were in site D, which was not very level. They have a playground for kids. No wifi."

Seasonal operations: Not all campgrounds operate year-round, with some closing during winter months. Red Gates RV Park in Hendersonville operates from April through November according to their website.

Variable cell coverage: Mobile reception can be inconsistent depending on carrier and exact location. "The outhouse, has 6 showers 3 each womens, and mens, in front of the building is and old claw foot tub for decoration that sayes Bath 5 cents. it also has a blue johnny house on trailer out front, but no worries they have flush toilets too!" reported a guest at Hitching Post Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Pools provide recreation for children during warmer months. "Pool is wonderful. Usually you have it to yourself never saw it crowded," noted one Lakewood RV Resort camper about their swimming facilities.

Wi-Fi access for teens: Internet availability varies widely between locations. At Wilderness Cove Campground, one visitor mentioned, "The tent camping is not quite 'roughing it': there's pretty reliable WiFi and the bath house is air conditioned and kept very clean."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling considerations: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain that may require additional equipment. "The campground is well maintained and the staff are great however I can do without the geese recking havoc at all hours of the night. Those darn birds wouldn't be quite," reported one RVer at Rutledge Lake RV Resort.

Security features: Several parks offer gated access for added safety. A guest at GSP RV Park commented, "This is a well-maintained park with very friendly staff and guests. Spacious dog park, fresh gravel in the spots, fire pit area with string lights."

Age restrictions: Some facilities cater specifically to older campers. Lakewood RV Resort is designated as a 55+ community but allows younger visitors when accompanied by qualifying adults. "We took advantage of my hubby's 55+ status and parked here for a night. Everyone was super nice and welcoming," shared one camper.
