Best of this trip

Close enough to Savanna to be convenient but far enough out to be quiet.

First, the check in process was like checking into a nice hotel. Front desk was courteous and prepared. They had guide ready to escort us to our spot.

Our back-in site was level and easy to get into. They could use a few more trees, but everything was manicured and beautiful.

The facilities make this place nearly a destination resort in itself. Beautiful pool and hot tub. Lazy lagoon and kids water park we being filled while we were there. Pool, darts, ping pong, etc in the common area with TVs surrounded by the nicest shower we had all trip. Didn’t use the laundry but looked clean and nice.

Lakeside Restaurant/Bar & Live Music

20 minutes away from historic Savannah, but this place really impressed me for my overnight. Had a paved pull through (site 39) and it was ultra clean, level, and everything here seems brand new. They have gravel sites too, but the paved sites are more convenient and it looked like every site has its own fire pit (the office delivers firewood on request). Upon entering the park, you see a huge oak tree with gray moss (classic Savannah) and a very nice, new, country-club-like office and family-friendly pool. They seemed to be finishing a kid play pool and a lazy river with palm trees next to the existing tennis court. Staff escort to your site is a nice touch and so is curbside trash pickup (no recycling, unfortunately). The best surprise of all, and what makes this place really unique, is the restaurant and bar on the lake where we listened to live music (amazing singer) in Adirondack chairs around a huge, stone fire pit with trendy Edison bulb tea lights strung overhead. The only drawback was there was nothing for me to eat on my plant-based (vegan) diet and even the frozen piña colada had dairy whipped cream on top. Despite the park being very up-to-date, the general attitude of the staff, although friendly, did not seem very progressive. For example, only one younger staff member (out of many) in the indoor office and restaurant wore a mask during the rising Covid outbreak. More concern for the health and safety of their staff and guests is needed here.

Beautiful Park

We really loved this park. Do not leave any food or your cooler out. We had visits from deer everyday. The campground is at the back of this park and Sonia the boat launch. We put our kayaks in and went paddling up the salt marshes. Very peaceful day. Be sure to visit the fort. It is very cool to walk around and see the underground bunkers. So much history here I never knew about.

Large Resort Good Location

This place is huge! Lots of sites. Well laid out design. Big pool and lots to do. They have a restaurant there that is right in the lake. Food was great! We had a pull through full hookup site in the new section of the park. Pretty level, nice fire pit, and as much room as you’d expect in a park this size. Kids loved the playground and pool. Staff was nice, and it was about 20 minutes to downtown Savannah but close to plenty of restaurants and shopping. As mentioned before (and normal with new parks) there is no shade. Also the WiFi and cable were non existent. We were told on the phone the WiFi was “spotty” and then when we got there we were told it had been knocked out by a lightening storm (as well as the cable too)… but on the internet it says you have to ask for a direct tv box and they are first come first serve. I did ask about it and they said they didn’t use that anymore. Obviously it wasn’t a deal breaker to us, but for the price you pay you should at least have dependable WiFi, and it didn’t work at all. There was also construction going on while we were there, but we left during the biggest part of the day while they were working. Good experience but just some little details that could be improved on for sure and at least having the amenities that are advertised or offering a discount when you know they aren’t working.

Great campsite

Really nice campground. Great hikes. Very close to a Publix and two convenience stores. My kids loved the playground and the fort tour!!

Great history, nice separation, cheeky critters!

Arrived here for a three-night tent stay at spot #53, after a stay at Crooked River. The entrance to the campground is through a long causeway surrounded by beautiful marshes. The campground attendants are tops. There is a nice office/souvenir shop at the entrance to the site. Wood bundles are paid for in cash at a small shed; just pay for what you take and place the money through the slot in the tin can. Site #53 is near the rest rooms which were spacious and individually apportioned. Lots of deer sightings both day and night. Armadillos roam the grounds too. However, the terror of the campground are the very courageous raccoons that will approach your picnic table to steal your food while you're sitting on the other side! As I read in some other review at another site, these raccoons are straight-up terrorists. Couldn't kayak because the facility was closed due to COVID, bummer. Lots of history, some gnarly bugs, some unfortunate rain… may come back.

Spacious Camping in Georgia

Our spot was campsite #26

This was a maiden voyage for our Grand Design 399TH 5th wheel trailer. We wanted to go somewhere 2-3 hours from Gainesville for this “shakeout” trip. This state park fit the bill. We arrived after hours so out packet of information was tacked to a board outside the park office. The road were wide and spacious. The overhead canopy of trees were trimmed up well and did not hit the rig. This park is very good for large 40+ ft rigs.

I would HIGHLY recommend it!! It was huge, very private and close to the bathrooms. It was a level gravel site that was clean and freshly racked. It had full hookups and 50 amp which was great for this 43 foot beast.

There’s not a whole lot to do in the park so a great location for just relaxing, reading or hiking. It had nice paved roads for biking. You also have a couple of hiking trails although we did not try them. This park is convenient to downtown Savannah and a nice outing if you want to explore or sightsee. I would definitely go back.

Amenities out the wazoo

Gorgeous. Great layout. Tons of amenities. Slam dunk for a family with kids. Very much a “resort.” Pool, basketball courts, restaurant, gym, spa, market, gorgeous lake, etc. Five stars in that regard.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our only disappointment was the individual sites. We would rate them 3.5-4 stars max. They are level with full hookups, but very narrow and not much space for hanging out. Not very well landscaped or manicured like one would expect given the price and the overall beautiful aesthetic of the property. Our site was full of ants/ant piles, and sitting outside without being bitten was impossible.

Great Place!!!

This was a last minute booking for us and was absolutely delightful. The facilities were clean and very well kept. The property was beautiful and the people friendly and very knowledgeable.

The proximity to Savannah was the reason I chose this location. It maybe took us 15min to get to River Street from the site which was super convenient for being able to go back and forth.

I most certainly will be booking this location again.

Where to start

The roads into the park are paved and wide enough, it narrows in camping area #3 but I got my 30ft. travel trailer in no problem and saw a couple 5th wheeler's. The sights are comfortably spaced and easily accessible with plenty of space for the tow vehicle. If you like to bike, hike, jog or just walk the trails are well maintained, marked and very scenic. If that's not your thing lovely Savannah does not disappoint. A good assortment of shops, restaurants, bars or tours boasting the cities history. So when entering the park don't get put off by the newly installed speed bumps trailer draggers. The rest is smooth sailing.
