    Black Moshannon State Park Campground

    Family fun!

Nice clean and quiet campground. The address online took us to the ranger station. Turn left BEFORE bridge. Couldn’t see sign from the road. The section we were in was “no pets allowed”. My kids loved the beach, swimming was not deep. Beach was big with adjacent playground. Lots of pavilions all over. The area was a little crowded for my liking.

    Pioneer Campground

    Don't rent Cabin 1

Looks cute from the outside but once you get in you are immediately disappointed. The cabin had a smell, a wrinkly floor, and was very dark. There is a lack of any shelf or cabinets and only minimal hooks to put your things. Even the TV was on the dining table and you can't use the remote from the bed either. We used the table benches and top of fireplace to place our stuff. We also had no AC. The signs on the wall said make sure you turn off the AC, but no AC. Our friends stayed in cabin 6 and it was so cute, bright, and had AC. Our other friend stayed in 2 and it was much better than ours as well. 3 was better too.

In addition they would not honor a AAA discount due to already paying, what?!

    Austin Campground

    Tucked Away Gem

Found this location while going to Elk State Forest for the elk bugling. Was very happy to find this location. Had clean bathrooms with running water and showers. Campground was tucked away between two mountains and sat next to a creek. Staff was friendly. Plenty of camp sites. Have yearly campsites which is apparent since some of the campers have more permanent structures around or attached to them. Pets allowed. Not the best place for hammock camping but have a few sites with good trees. Out of the main path but nice place to stay.

    Little Mexico Campground

    Friendly Staff

Little Mexico is a nice campground with lots of activities in the summer, situated on Penn’s Creek about 15 minutes from Lewisburg, PA. We camped there twice this summer and had enjoyable visits. The road leading to the campground is narrow and winding, but we didn’t experience any trouble. Check in was a breeze as all the paperwork and payment were taken care of prior to arrival and all we needed to do was pick up our gate pass, map and head to the site. The employees in the front office are amazing and some of the friendliest you will meet. The other employees we interacted with during our stays were equally as friendly and helpful!

Overall the sites are good sized, level and the majority have full hook-ups. The water pressure is good, electric stable, and good cable TV connections. There is no internet at the sites and only a moderate cell phone signal. Most of the transient sites are right next to each other with little barriers between. Tubs of wood can be delivered to the site and this good quality firewood! For$10 a load, stock up because it burns well with little obnoxious smoke.

There are various activities each weekend during the summer, a huge pool, playground, mini-golf, and of course Penn’s Creek to float. The only negative would be some of the seasonal sites do not feel the quiet hour times apply to them. Overall, Little Mexico is a nice campground in a beautiful location, with great people operating it!

Russell P Letterman Campground — Bald Eagle State Park

    Relaxing week great sites

Stayed in the modern camping section. Easy access to camp ground. The check in process was just to drive to the site and set up which was different but very easy. The sites are private on the sides with some green space to play on. Lots of extra places to park extra cars or bring a second vehicle with a boat.

The kids had fun riding the bikes around the loop and taking the short cuts cut in around the loop. We had fun walking to the foot bridge to go fishing.

The camping area was very quite both mornings and evenings. We saw the park rangers drive through multiple times per day.

The bathrooms were clean. There are no shelfs in the showers (except for a bar of soap) but they had hooks to hang your clothes.

The racoons were a fun surprise on our last night! We left the grease trap from the Blackstone out and the they found it. We did not see any bears though we heard they are there.

We had smoke from Canadian forest fires so haze in the pictures is smoke not haze or rainy days! The walking trails are great. You can see the largest white swamp oak in Pennsylvania!

Definitely check out Penns Cave too.

    Hills Creek State Park Campground

Well established and popular- perfect for groups

This is one of the main attractions for the area. Locals come here when the weather is nice.

We stayed in yurts, which are round tents ($38 per night). We had a cozy wooden deck and slept four people in two bunk beds. We also had a cooking stove, refrigerator, heat and electricity.

There is plenty of fishing and hiking to go around.

Really recommend this campsite if you have a little extra money to spend and are looking for a light getaway with friends.

If you're looking for a secluded place for yourself or with a loved one, I would look around the area for a less-popular campsite.

    Pettecote Junction Campground

    Soul Cleansing

Petticoat Junction campground is nestled in the PA Grand Canyon with Pine Creek on one side and the Rails to Trails on the other of the campground. This ideal location provides a nice tranquil environment with opportunities for active adventures. It had been several years since our last stay at PJC, but the new owners have done amazing improvements and upgrades to many areas of the campground which are greatly appreciated. Everyone we interacted with(owners/employees) were friendly and gave us the feeling that they were glad we chose to stay with them.

There are a variety of camping options from season sites, primitive sites, cabins, glamping tents, and RV hook-ups for water and electric(along the creek). We stated in one of the water/electric hook-up sites along the creek, which was wonderful. Very flat and larger than average in size, which was nice not being on top of your neighbor. Water pressure was very good and the WIFI signal was better than many campgrounds we have stayed.

The location of PJC is perfect for fishing, floating/kayaking, and biking/hiking the rails to trail. There are many nearby hikes throughout the canyon for the more adventures travelers. The office has biking/tubing/boating rentals for its campers. Additionally the firewood for sale is priced well and is very good quality, not the cheap smoky pine found in most places. If you need a break from civilization to reset and relax, I highly recommend PJC!

Guide to Jersey Mills

Little Pine Creek flows through the Waterville area near Jersey Mills at an elevation of around 700 feet. The region experiences four distinct seasons with snowy winters, mild summers, and spectacular fall foliage, making camping opportunities varied throughout the year. Campgrounds in the area offer options ranging from rustic tent sites to full hookup RV spots, with most locations providing access to Pine Creek and associated trails.

What to do

Hiking the Mid-State Trail: Little Pine State Park Campground offers direct access to this trail system. "The Mid State hiking trail comes right through the Campground and there are numerous other trails within the park. There is a lake for swimming, kayaking and fishing," notes James P.

Wildlife viewing: Sinnemahoning State Park Campground provides excellent opportunities to observe local fauna. "Elk, eagles deer and many other varieties of wild life can be seen here on a regular basis," explains Paula L., while another visitor reports, "I had a close encounter with a massive bull elk just walking from my campsite to the restrooms at dawn!"

Float trips: Located along Pine Creek, DB Adventures offers river access for water activities. "A fantastic hidden gem next to the picturesque pine creek. Perfect for a river float on your tube or kayak with a nearby shuttle service," states a reviewer named Missy.

Stargazing: The remote location means dark night skies. A camper at Sinnemahoning describes it as "a quiet sleep with dark skies for stargazing."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Pettecote Junction Campground receives praise for its well-maintained grounds. "Their bathrooms are so clean I almost swept from joy. Keep in mind you need quarters for a hot shower but I only needed 2 quarters for 6 minutes, plenty of time," reports Vanessa S.

Spacious sites: Hills Creek State Park Campground offers ample room at campsites. "The site was very spacious!!! Plenty of room!!!! Bathrooms were clean!!! Plenty of shade and trees to hang your hammock for relaxing," comments Amanda H.

Convenient location: Canyon Country Campground is praised for its proximity to attractions. "Great little campground. Very friendly staff. Minutes away from a town and the gorge. Hiking trail from the campground to the gorge!" shares Sarah M.

Quiet atmosphere: Many campgrounds in the area offer a peaceful environment. "Small, quiet campground. My kids love riding their bikes here. There are a few nice scenic trails that go to the lake and through the woods," notes Amber N. about Sinnemahoning State Park.

What you should know

Limited cell service: The remote location means connectivity is often poor. One camper at Sinnemahoning State Park Campground reports, "There is zero cell service/WiFi at the park, or for at least 5-10 miles from it."

Tent site conditions: Some campgrounds have rocky or gravel surfaces. "It's a little gravelly for tents, but not bad," notes a reviewer at Sinnemahoning, while another mentions, "Tent pads are of rocky packed earth which makes staking and guying out your tent a bit of a challenge."

Weather preparedness: The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon region can experience sudden weather changes. One camper at Little Pine State Park noted, "This is very rustic with electric options which is nice. The campsite we were at was very large probably better for a trailer but we enjoyed the space with our tent."

Wildlife awareness: Bears and other wildlife are active in the area. A reviewer at Little Pine mentions, "It was the height of rattlesnake season. A site near ours and very close to the playground had a rattler under their camper."

Tips for camping with families

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When glamping close to Jersey Mills, Pennsylvania, choosing the right site matters. At Happy Acres Resort, "Stayed for 5 nights with a partial hook up for our brand new 32 foot travel trailer. Other reviewers had mentioned that sites were small, so we specifically asked for a larger site. We ended up getting a corner site right on the edge of a hill looking down on the main office and playground. It was perfect."

Hookup availability: Little Pine State Park Campground offers various hookup options. "Electric only but water fill up is in convenient locations. Dump station is provided. Well maintained and clean," explains James P.

Level sites: DB Adventures provides well-maintained grounds. "This is very rustic with electric options which is nice. The sites are clean, flat, and spaced nicely on the northwest end," notes a visitor.

Seasonal considerations: Bald Eagle State Park has specific camping conditions throughout the year. "We stayed in site 78 on the Sycamore loop at the end of April in a tent, which isn't the best equipment for this campground. Our site had a blacktop driveway, a very small amount of gravel, and a ton of mud."
