Little Pine Creek runs throughout the campsites in this region, with elevations ranging from 700-1,200 feet across the valley. Located in north-central Pennsylvania's Lycoming County, the area maintains cooler temperatures than nearby urban centers, with summer highs typically in the low 80s. Most campgrounds near Cogan Station operate seasonally from April through October, though several glamping options remain available through December.
What to do
Creek fishing access: Little Pine State Park Campground provides convenient fishing spots along Little Pine Creek. "We go back again & again. Trees, clean, beautiful. Great kayaking, hiking & fishing and just miles from Pine Creek proper," writes Rebecca E., highlighting the multiple water activities available.
Rail trail biking: Pettecote Junction Campground sits directly alongside the Pine Creek Rail Trail with 62 miles of scenic biking routes. According to Craig F., "The location of PJC is perfect for fishing, floating/kayaking, and biking/hiking the rails to trail. There are many nearby hikes throughout the canyon for the more adventures travelers."
Waterfall exploration: For glamping close to Cogan Station, Pennsylvania with waterfall access, Ricketts Glen State Park Campground offers 22 waterfalls along a moderate hiking route. "The biggest draw to this state park (which no one in Pennsylvania I spoke with seemed to know about) is the 22 waterfalls! We saw 18 of them on a four-mile moderate hike," shares Lee D.
What campers like

Everywhere you look there is green space. The campground also does nature tours for local flora/fauna," notes Dave G.
Privacy options: Tent campers seeking seclusion appreciate the wooded areas at Happy Acres Resort. Christopher E. explains, "Unlike many campgrounds that cater primarily to campers/RVs, they have nice spots in wooded areas for tenters. Some even have water and electric hookups."
Variety of accommodation types: Glamping alternatives near Cogan Station include pioneer-style cabins at Pioneer Campground. "Very nice quiet campground. Level spots. Large lake to boat and kayak. Beautiful scenery. Full hook up spot," reports Shirley M. about accommodations in the region.
What you should know
Seasonal considerations: Most luxury camping sites in the area close during winter months. "We intended to stay 4 nights and ended up staying a whole week!" says Carmie about Happy Acres Resort, highlighting the extended season opportunities during early fall.
Wildlife awareness: Bears and other wildlife frequent the campgrounds. "The racoons were a fun surprise on our last night! We left the grease trap from the Blackstone out and they found it. We did not see any bears though we heard they are there," cautions Erik E.
Cell service limitations: Limited connectivity exists throughout the region. One camper at Ricketts Glen State Park Campground notes, "Site was pretty nice, but there is very little privacy as the sites are so close to each other. Also no service (Verizon)."
Tips for camping with families
Kids activities: Yogi At Shangri-La On the Creek offers extensive organized events for children. "This is the best campground for a family with little kids in north-central PA, hands down!" recommends Henry R.
Pool options: Several campgrounds feature swimming pools for when creek temperatures feel too cold. At Little Mexico Campground, Amy G. reports, "My husband and our three sons usually camp here at least two times a summer. We always get a site by the creek and have a great time. They have a nice general store, pool, and family friendly activities."
Playground access: Pioneer Campground provides play areas specifically designed for children. "Two others and I camped here in May of 2017 and we had a wonderful time. Our tent site was secluded and quiet, but not too far off the beaten path! It was super hot so the pool was a nice cool down after a long day, and they had activities and tractor rides for the holiday weekend," shares Heather K.
Tips from RVers
Hookup availability: Little Pine State Park Campground offers electric sites without full hookups. James P. advises, "Electric only but water fill up is in convenient locations. Dump station is provided. Well maintained and clean."
Site leveling: Bring leveling blocks for most sites in the region. Zach P. notes, "This is very rustic with electric options which is nice. The campsite we were at was very large probably better for a trailer but we enjoyed the space with our tent."
Distance between sites: Knoebels Campground has tight spacing between RV sites. "The site was plenty spacious for our pup and TV, but was not level at all. In fact, none of the surrounding sites looked very level," cautions Jen V., recommending strategic site selection to maximize space.
