      Lake Carl Blackwell

One of the very cleanest I have stayed at.

The amenities were very clean, some being very new. Multiple new dump stations in each area. Bathrooms were very clean. Most all campsites are right on the water. Beautiful campground. Offers Equestrian trails, hiking trails, and bicycling trails. Our favorite in-state campground.

      Lake Carl Blackwell

      Relaxing time

We reserve two sites side by side in the beaver cove campground. The sites are on a slight decline but pull through and we were able to make them level with our blocks. The sides have enough room for the grandkids to roam around it besides for electric and water only but offered a view of the lake and we're close by a swim area. The trees at the sides provided adequate shade for the afternoon sun and the campground offered boat ramps couple of swim areas and on-site store for gas and supplies including and after hours vending machine with propane tanks and charcoal and s'mores supplies. The dump station provided slots for three RVs at one time and well thought out. The crap ground offers hiking bicycle and horse trails that cover a large area. Wildlife was abundant with plenty of deer and Canadian geese and squirrels. The campgrounds offer some annual sites for long-term visits but there is a waiting list to be on that.

      Lake Carl Blackwell

      Nice spot

Campground easy to find and access. The map at office provided was poor quality, map on web site better. Staff was helpful and courtious. Nice campgrounds, some are available for 12 months but those are in their own section. Big disappoint was no bath house, one rest room with a handicap shower. But that restroom near horse corals and smell was present. The lake was nice respite to a hot and long day. The grounds are well manicured, clean and mowed. It's a very large facility but spread out so it does not feel crowded.

      Lake Carl Blackwell

      Well kept, quirky, prairie lake

The lake is owned and operated by Oklahoma State University. The grounds were well mowed, some of the structures are dated but well cared for. Super-friendly and helpful people at the permit office. The store was closed when we arrived.

The quirky bit is the number of camping spaces that are by annual permit. That means a lot of of the shore line is taken up by permanent campers, weekend campers that leave their rigs, student living and even residents (in campers). The lake being close to Stillwater, it looks like a number of students and such commute from the lake.

None of this was problematic for us, but the level of care each annual permit holder takes on their lot range from pristine to near dilapidated.

We stayed in Beaver Cove and found it to be clean, well-maintained, friendly and quiet. No real privacy buffer between sites, but the spacing was comfortable.

The park ranger made several passes through, even though the campground was only about 1/4 occupied.

Lots of birds, including a resident blue heron the locals named Charlie. Wonderful views of the cove. We stayed in lot 31 and a few large elm trees gave our campsite evening shade.

Nice fire rings and sturdy picnic tables.

All in all, a good stay.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Keystone Lake

      Grandkids fun place.

This place is awesome for hot summer days. Fun for all ages especially kids. The camping includes the floating inflatables, paddle boards, kayaks, air-conditioned outdoor pool with water slides and splash pad. Everything is new, clean and well kept. Employees are all very nice and helpful. The only bad thing is the tent sites are next to the waters edge and can get flooded out. The RV sites are the best for they have shade trees. The price is a little higher but considering that there is free fun for everybody.  Rather it's playing on the floating obstacle coarse in the lake or swimming at the water park which is included in camping fee, fishing or just relaxing at the campsite. Plus it's close to other attractions like the state park, museums, and great fishing at the Kestone Dam. Also its really close to shopping and restaurants. There is a lot to do in Sand Springs which is a close drive. Keystone lake is a beautiful clean lake for boating and fishing. The obstacle coarse floating in the lake was so much fun and I'm 59 years old plus the awesome really cold swimming pool with big waterslides that was never crowded.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Keystone Lake

Absolutely would not recommend Jellystone RV Park at Keystone Lake.

We called ahead and clearly explained we needed a full hookup site to test out our motorhome before a major trip. We were also told they had a playground and asked to be placed as close to it as possible. We confirmed that checkout was at 11 AM and were told if we needed a late checkout, it would be an additional$20.

When we arrived, we were one of the only guests there, yet they still insisted on charging a late checkout fee. Even worse— the site they gave us had only 30 amp electric hookup— no water, no sewage hookup— despite what we were promised over the phone. The“playground” was a complete joke: no swings, no slides— just a small metal structure with a few steps. Nothing like what is pictured or advertised. When we asked for a refund because the site was not what we were promised, the older woman at the front desk laughed and said,“It’s raining, the kids can’t play anyway,” and refused to refund us.

She offered a“credit toward a future stay,” which we obviously declined. There are only THREE sites in the entire park with full hookups, and they are right at the front gate next to the train tracks. As a military family(my husband is a disabled combat vet), it’s also worth noting they do not offer any military discount. Between the poor service, false advertising, and complete lack of accommodations, this place is wildly overpriced and absolutely not worth the three-hour drive we made to get there.

0/10 recommend. Save your money and go somewhere else. We left and stayed down the road by Pier 51 instead— a much better experience.

      Lake Carl Blackwell

      Beautiful lake and grounds

Lakeside spots are spacious and well kept. Be prepared for flying bugs. Lake is great for swimming with shallow flat bottom.

    Guide to Burbank

Equestrian camping options near Burbank, Oklahoma remain relatively limited, with most established sites lacking dedicated horse facilities. Several campgrounds within 30-50 miles offer primitive to full-service camping, though specific horse accommodations such as corrals or dedicated equestrian trails aren't widely advertised. The area features a mix of lake-oriented camping with varying levels of amenities, from basic tent sites to RV hookups and cabin rentals.

    What to do

Lake activities: At Cowely County Fishing Lake in Arkansas City, visitors can explore unique waterfall features when water levels permit. "At the time I was there, the waterfall was dried up and I was able to take a trail down to the bottom and see everything up close," notes Mike V., who rated the experience highly for motorcycle camping.

Hiking and trail exploration: Multiple trails are available at Lake Carl Blackwell, perfect for beginners or those training for longer expeditions. "Lake Carl Blackwell has plenty of multi-use trails however, there is no of trail camping. these results are for day hikes only. Great for kids and getting them started in hiking or as a training ground for longer hikes," explains Daniel R.

Fishing opportunities: Several lakes near Burbank provide fishing access with varying catch rates. "Good fishing" is reported at Cowely County Fishing Lake according to Charley M., while Lake Carl Blackwell presents more challenges. As camper Dusti H. notes, "They should stick the lake though. It's a tough fishing spot."

    What campers like

Waterfront sites: Winfield City Lake offers sites with water access, though availability varies by season. "It's a small lake but big enough to go fishing and do your boating fun on like skiing, tubing and etc. There is camping around the lake with RV hookups in spots around the lake," reports Judy C.

Wildlife viewing: Natural areas around campgrounds support diverse wildlife. Kelly G. observed a variety of animals at Lake Carl Blackwell: "I was practically surrounded by water. Deer, beavers, armadillo, birds! There are many different campground areas, I stayed in Pine Grove."

Spacious campsites: At Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, campers appreciate the room to spread out. "We stayed the weekend and had a great time, there was plenty of things for the kids to do and enough space at our campsite that we didn't feel crowded in," shares Shelia M.

    What you should know

Seasonal changes: Water features may vary significantly with rainfall and seasons. At Cowely County Fishing Lake, Mike V. observed: "Throughout the day, there was about three people fishing. It felt like I had the place to myself. I'm not sure if it was because it's just March and nothing's quite green yet, but the lake was peaceful."

Noise levels: Weekend activity can impact quiet camping experiences at several locations. Chris B. warns about Winfield City Lake: "This lake is nice but small. The camping is OK, however, the city of Winfield never enforces quite hours or patrols the area. If you get unlucky enough to be near a party you will listen to it all night."

Cleanliness concerns: Facility maintenance varies between campgrounds and seasons. Jake F. notes about Cowely County Fishing Lake: "Very nice primitive campsite. Several spots beside The lake or built a little peninsulas surrounded by water on three sides...Very quiet but there was some trash look like there might be some partying on the weekends."

    Tips for camping with families

Facilities for children: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park offers specialized attractions for kids. "This place is awesome for hot summer days. Fun for all ages especially kids. The camping includes the floating inflatables, paddle boards, kayaks, air-conditioned outdoor pool with water slides and splash pad," reports Melanie W.

Check shade availability: Summer heat requires planning for shade. Melanie W. notes about Jellystone Park's pool area: "The only thing we did not like was there was absolutely no shade for our baby."

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Always confirm exact hookup specifications before booking. RV sites vary significantly between campgrounds. Judy C. reports on Winfield City Lake: "A few full hookups, water & electric hookups and many just electric spots."

Train noise considerations: Some RV sites may experience railroad noise. Chris M. notes about Jellystone Park: "Enjoyed the quiet side of the park closest to railroad tracks. Yes, we did have trains at all hours, but living in a community with a similar issue, we had no problem sleeping through it."

Site selection for horses: For those seeking equestrian camping near Burbank, Oklahoma, options remain limited. While Lake Carl Blackwell offers horseback riding trails according to David D., who noted "Offers Equestrian trails, hiking trails, and bicycling trails," none of the reviewed campgrounds explicitly advertise horse corrals or dedicated equestrian camping facilities.
