    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

great spot for direct kayak/canoe put in.

We stayed in site 218. this spot is in the smaller ( less crowded) part of Jamestown campground in Pymatuning SP. it is right on the water and has an easy access area for shore fishing and entering a kayak or canoe or some other water device. the site sits on a little bay and the otherside (more crowded) of the campground is across the water. the water is a little murky/ grassy but still good entry area. the campsite was spacious for a pa state park. the site is between the lake and the road. sites 212-222 look to be on the water with boat access, but 218 has the easiest entry. 220’s picnic Bench and fire pit sit next to the water with great views, but there is little shade. 218 had a great shady spot were you can hang 3 hammocks. there is no electricity at these sites and pretty much tent only. lots of tent space. the fire ring was decent but we moved it as it was right underneath a burnt tree. 218 was ADA accessible with a nice picnic table. restrooms were fairly close. clean... outdated, but clean.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Another trip to Jamestown Campground

My family has visited Pymatuning park many times now and try have used a variety of spots at Jamestown campground. It is large, offering multiple options for campsite types. It’s a standard PA state park campground offering bathrooms (bathrooms are older, but are being renovated July-August 2021) showers, fire ring, picnic table, etc. Campsites J-106 thru J-116 are well shaded, but are alongside route 322 which maintains consistent traffic at all hours. If the noise is not an issue, this run of tent sites are well spaced, and offer easy access to the facilities. To be away from the road (and nearer to the lake) sites J-120 thru J-128 are closer together but can be quieter (depending on your neighbors…)

The beach area is clean, and raked often. It has a playground and volleyball court. On Friday’s they have a family movie night at the amphitheater. Most Saturdays in the summer they offer crafts and activities for kids at the beach.

The surrounding area also has plenty of activities to offer: Local restaurants, ice cream, hiking, kayaking/boating, fishing, etc.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Cabins could be better

The bunk beds have very thin rv style bunk bed mattresses. And the master bed mattress was a weak memory foam. Needs to invest in better mattresses.

Last August rented Cabin. It was beautiful and very clean. The owners were great and very helpful. !! Cabins are a little high in price. No WiFi,. KOA should lower the prices due to that. Bathhouse was very clean!.Trash was picked up every day and the Park very clean.! We have booked another Cabin for May 2021. They have a limited rental on Life jacket s. Bring ur own.!

Guide to Willoughby Hills

Cabins near Willoughby Hills, Ohio accommodate both basic and premium camping experiences. Located in northeastern Ohio near Lake Erie, this area experiences distinct seasons with warm summers and cold winters. Most cabin accommodations remain open from May through October, though some facilities like West Branch State Park maintain year-round availability for cabin rentals.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At West Branch State Park Campground, visitors can fish directly from their campsites. "We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days," notes Alisa G.

Beach swimming: Many cabin properties provide lake access for swimming during summer months. "The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities," reports James S. about his experience at Woodside Lake Park.

Archery practice: Some parks offer specialized recreational facilities beyond standard amenities. "We like to bring our bows and use the archery range. Shower house available, but bathrooms throughout the site are primitive. Will do movie nights on the weekends," explains Karen D. about her visits to Mosquito Lake State Park.

What campers like

Private lakefront locations: Many cabins offer direct water access. "Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table. West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites," explains Alisa G.

Clean facilities: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA maintains well-kept grounds. "Very clean and well maintained. KOA Bath house trailer was very clean, easy to utilize the outdoor kitchen," reports Heidi C. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring regional attractions.

Entertainment options: Seasonal activities enhance the cabin camping experience. "We had a great time. The staff was wonderful. The kids loved both the pool and the lake. The breakfast pizza was great. The food prices were very reasonable," states Stacie J. about her stay at Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday.

What you should know

Uneven terrain: Some cabins sit on challenging topography. "On first impression we were not impressed with this park. First the water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full. Also our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke," reports Andrea F. about West Branch State Park.

Seasonal amenities: Swimming facilities typically operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day. "It was early October so it wasn't open," notes Mike A. about the beach at Roundup Lake RV Resort during his fall visit.

Water quality issues: Some locations struggle with water treatment. "I stayed at this park for 2 months in 2023 and was planing on staying for 5 months in 2025. I left after 2 months due to iron& sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park," warns Jerry L. about Woodside Lake Park.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Penitentiary Glen Reservation provides rustic cabin options with basic facilities. "Even with the colder weather it was nice and cozy. Plenty of fire wood provided and a short distance away from the gorge to walk," reports Ky G.

Consider proximity to nature centers: Some cabin areas include educational opportunities. "The wrist band for kid activities is well worth it," recommends Stacie J. about her family's experience at Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday.

Book waterfront sites early: Cabins with lake access remain in high demand. "Campsite G is the one. It is an open lean to with a stone fireplace facing the inside of the three sided wooden structure. Various watercraft rentals available, but look at availability before you go," advises Rebecca G. about Headwaters Park.

Tips from RVers

Verify site dimensions: Cabin and RV sites vary significantly in size and levelness. "Sites are close but shady and large enough for trailer and our truck," reports Mike A. about Roundup Lake RV Resort.

Check firewood availability: Supply can vary by season. "Only gave a 4 b/c they were out of wood and what wood they had was wet. We needed up buying charcoal to cook our burgers on," notes Mike A. about his experience.

Research off-season options: Some cabin rentals remain available year-round. "Quiet tent campsite parked in this area. There are quite a few RVs parked here and it appears lively, but the tent area in hilltop was quiet and secluded," reports Casey C. about Woodside Lake Park.
