Pet policies are generally accommodating throughout the area, with several parks offering designated dog run areas. Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

    Bear Run Campground

    Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    Mercer-Grove City KOA

    Really nice!

Very well maintained campground with lots of amenities, esp for kids (pool, playground). Generous sized sites, not too close together. Looks like quite a few long-term RVers here. Cute chickens wandering around. Hiking trail accessible from the campsite. Heavily wooded and quiet, but not too far off interstate.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Love the Lake!

This state park has a lot to offer with the highlight being a large 2,650-lake that appeals to fishermen, boaters, and swimmers. The park is over 5,000 acres and not only has camping but hiking, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, and more.

The campground is divided into three loops with nearly 200 sites. Campsites include those with full hook-up (50 amp), electric only (50 amp), and some with no electric. This campground is suitable for everything from large RVs to tents. Sites and roads are paved and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In loops where there is no water directly at the site, water spigots are scattered throughout. The restroom/bathhouses in our loop were really nice, modern, clean, and had laundry facilities which is a real plus at a state park campground. Campsites can be reserved online up to six months in advance. Since we were here in April, the campground was practically empty and getting a site was no problem. But, if you want one of the 29 full hook-up sites in the summer, you better book early.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and being able to leave our campsite and be right on the trails. There are approximately 12 miles of hiking trails and an additional 20 miles that are open to horses and snowmobiles. (Be aware that hunting is permitted in certain areas.)

The park is about 15 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is a fantastic place to explore with a lot going on for the whole family! If you are interested in football, the National Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton. The town of Hudson has a pretty, historic downtown with a fun old soda fountain.

We would definitely stay at this campground again. It was a perfect place to stay while visiting family in the nearby town of Hudson. Loved having a paved site with full hook-ups especially since there was a lot of rain while we were there. The lake was perfect for kayaking and had we been able to stay longer we would have spent more time on the water.

Guide to Poland

Campgrounds and RV parks around Poland, Ohio operate throughout the region's moderate seasonal weather pattern from April through October. Nearby Mosquito Lake State Park influences local camping conditions with its 7,850-acre reservoir, creating microclimate effects that benefit summer campers. Most facilities close completely during winter months, with overnight temperatures frequently dropping below freezing from November through March.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Kool Lakes Family RV Park in Parkman, the fishing lakes provide abundant recreation. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," reports one visitor. The park offers both a swimming lake and a dedicated fishing lake with waterfront sites.

Horseback riding: Bear Run Campground in Portersville offers unique equestrian opportunities. "My son loves the horse rides on Sundays," mentions one camper. The campground connects to nearby Moraine State Park, expanding recreational opportunities. Horse rides operate weekly during summer months and require advance sign-up.

Water activities: Kayaking and paddleboarding options exist at Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins with rentals available on-site. "TONS of stuff to do here. Inflatable slides and such in the lake, hiking trials, playgrounds, all sorts of stuff," notes a visitor. The lake features dedicated swimming areas with water toys separate from boating zones.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Countryside Campground in Mogadore maintains well-kept bathroom facilities. "The bathrooms were clean, the showers were nice and the pool was well kept. Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table both in good condition," reports a camper. The campground connects to Mogadore Reservoir via a walking path for fishing access.

Family activities: Roundup Lake RV Resort schedules regular events for families. "The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!" shares one visitor. The resort features a large lake with inflatables and allows self-propelled watercraft like kayaks and paddleboards.

Spacious tent sites: While most rv parks Poland, Ohio focus on recreational vehicles, tent campers find good options too. "The 9 tent sites are very large and spacious. It is mostly an established RV Park. The community was very kind," notes a Countryside Campground visitor. Many campgrounds maintain dedicated tent areas separate from RV sections.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds near Poland operate from April/May through October only. RV Village Camping Resort in Mercer opens April 1st and closes October 31st. "Our family really enjoyed staying here, and our kids especially loved swimming and fishing in the lake," reports a visitor to Chestnut Ridge Park.

Road conditions: Approach routes may challenge larger vehicles. "[Austin Lake] will seem a little sketchy getting in. The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there. Take your time and all will be just fine. Our rig is 39' & 16K. 4wd low helps, not cause you need 4wd just for the lower gears," advises one RVer.

Site spacing: RV Village Camping Resort in Mercer offers mixed site experiences. "The daily sites are a bit tight which lends to noisy evenings past quiet hours. We had to get creative making white noise for our toddler to sleep," notes one camper. Most parks feature a combination of seasonal and transient sites with varying space allocations.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Many Poland area rv parks feature swimming areas with additional features. "This is a great campground for families. Has a playground in every section, well equipped cabins, a swimming area with inflatables, kayak, pontoon, and paddle boarding rentals, a bumper boat area," notes a visitor to Austin Lake Campground.

Budget considerations: Some parks charge extra for activities beyond basic camping. "Austin lake offers plenty of fun with the lake. Kayaking, inflatables, beach, but almost anything you want to do will cost you an additional charge. Need to use the bathhouse? Better take quarters...bc the showers are coin operated," advises a camper.

Playground access: Valley View Campground provides recreation options for different age groups. Throughout the area, most campgrounds feature playgrounds, though amenities vary widely. "This was a relaxing 4 days at a tent site. Would absolutely recommend this campground!" shares a visitor to Valley View.

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Site preparation varies across Poland area rv parks. "The sites are close but shady and large enough for trailer and our truck," reports one RVer at Roundup Lake. Many campgrounds feature gravel pads that may require additional leveling blocks.

Hookup availability: Electric service ranges from basic to comprehensive. "When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn't have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections," shares a visitor to Chestnut Ridge Park.

Seasonal restrictions: Most RV facilities close completely by late October. Fombell Landing campground, like many in the area, exists entirely in a flood zone. "The campground is entirely in a flood zone. It gets so deep the locals cars have floated away," warns one camper, highlighting the importance of monitoring weather forecasts during spring and fall camping trips.
