    Kiser Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet Park

This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly since it doesn’t allow any kind of boat with a motor. It also features a beach , 2 playgrounds and several hiking trails. Just be careful if you hike with dogs since some trails intersect with a nature preserve which doesn’t allow pets.

The campground itself has 20 electric sites , 56 primitive sites and 4 camper cabins. All the electric sites are pull through and all sites have a fire pit but only the electric sites come with picnic tables.

Due to off season and COVID the camp store is closed and there is no camper host or park office staff around.

We did notice lots of downed trees on the poorly marked hiking trails. Some trails just started but no maps were around and no trails were blazed. It was hard to tell where we were headed or how long a trail was. I tried using the new Detour app and it wasn’t very accurate for this park.

We did have good Verizon cell coverage.

    Nice little weekend getaway

Stayed 2 nights here. Had a back-in, water/electric spot that was roomy as we were on an end. Wood deck, picnic table, and fire ring included. Very well kept grounds, friendly staff, and all-around good atmosphere.

Venture Out Resorts Arrowhead Lakes Resort

    Big rigs to tents

We stayed here for free for 10 days as a part of a promotion that came with the purchase of our rig. Not sure about normal pricing though, as this campground is owned by Venture Out Resorts and they are a timeshare company (we had to sit for a hour long "pitch" to get our free days). They have 50amp, full hookup, pull through sites (and we saw 40+ ft rigs there) to tent camping to cabin rentals. The campground was clean (shower houses always looked great) and grounds were maintained. Amenities include an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna (close at 10p), but we did not partake because it was so overridden by children, chlorine, and no open windows - didn't seem worth any effort whatsoever in the July heat. The amenities we did checkout (close nightly at 8p) included their new 18 hole mini golf course, small arcade (4 games and pinball was broken 😢), loaner bikes, and water toys (we liked the paddle bikes). The company recently bought the property, so you can see what they inherited vs what it will probably eventually be like based off their sister properties (they recently added the putt putt and a big jungle gym) so it could evolve more as time passes. Regardless, in its current state as active 30 somethings, we were pretty bored. No hiking, significant highway noise, yes a couple big ponds, but a truck stop and truck storage is behind both - so no views. Most of the campers we saw were elderly or had young kids. I'd say if you fall into a category where you want to sit beside your rig all day or want your kids entertained (playgrounds, kids programming - it was luau week so they had a Moana movie night and other kid activities), go on and book a longer stay. If you're only looking for a spot to stay overnight by the highway, do it! It is simple to pull in and have full hookups to take advantage of but a 10 day stay is too long if you're paying. Other things to know: Walmart, Aldi, Lowes, and several automotive chain stores are at max 5 min away, which made grabbing some needed supplies super easy. That said truck stop above was very convenient to get into to fuel up our rig too. Fun fact: Neil Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta and the Armstrong Air & Space Museum is also a max 5 min drive away if you want to get your inner astronaut fix.

    Van Buren State Park Campground

    Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

    Indian Lake State Park Campground

    Lots of sites

Our pad was not level front to back so we had to adjust a little bit. The fire ring was nice but our picnic table was beat up. I went to move it and the seat pulled right off. We stayed on a Sunday night so it wasn’t packed. There are a ton of sites. Some had great shade and others didn’t have any at all. The bathrooms were flush toilets and they did have shower houses too. The camp store is really big and it’s right next to their pool. They have a dog park, place to dock your boat and a small beach. I would imagine this would be a pretty busy during the summer.

    Lake Loramie State Park Campground

Perfect retreat for the family or solo adventure

Relax on the waters edge in shear tranquility. Perfect beach for swimming, excellent trails for hiking, and awesome lake to boat. Multiple launch ramps provide ease and convenience. Rent a canoe or kayak and head out for some time alone or with your favorite person. The cabins are heated but pets are not allowed. Campground is huge as are the sites. Some are premium, there’s a few ADA and some lakeside making for a great view to enjoy your morning coffee.

Fun for kids during the day and sage at night.

We have stayed many times. Love being so close to the lake we can fish all the time. The beach is a bit of a walk from the campground but not to far. They offer canoe rentals, and bike rentals. The park also has beautiful cabins on the lake shore.

    Hidden gem

Traveling with a dog is not always easy, but I throughly enjoyed my stay. Will be back again, happy it wasn’t full of people. Wifi strong, Verizon service great, premium electric (I have 30amp and there was a hookup), no water as it’s winter meaning no bathrooms (there is a porterhouse). Clean sites and friendly folks.

Guide to Lima

Cabin camping near Lima, Ohio provides options for overnight stays in wooded settings with basic accommodations. Located in western Ohio's flat terrain at approximately 975 feet elevation, the area experiences all four seasons distinctly with hot summers and cold winters. Most cabins remain open year-round, though amenities like showers may close seasonally during winter months.

What to do

Fishing access points: Indian Lake State Park Campground offers multiple shore fishing locations around its 5,800-acre lake. "There is a camper beach area, swimming pool and boat launch within the campground," notes Andrea F., who adds that "the camp store is nice except the firewood was terrible. It was fresh cut and never did burn."

Water recreation options: Grand Lake St. Marys State Park includes a pool and splash pad for families seeking alternatives to lake swimming. "Has a swimming pool, playground, putt putt golf, boat docks, hiking trails, and some other great amenities," according to Ashleigh D., who appreciates the "large spacious sites with cement or paved spots."

Trail exploration: Lake Loramie State Park contains walking paths of varying difficulties, though seasonal insects can affect hiking experiences. "There are several nice walking trails but the mosquitoes were so bad even in the day that we kept away," reports Andrea F., who suggests fall visits might provide better conditions.

Local attractions: Wapakoneta KOA offers proximity to space history sites. "Check out the Template of Tolerance a few miles away in Wapakoneta. Definitely worth a visit," recommends Meredith S., who uses the campground as a "local base camp" when visiting family in the area.

What campers like

Spacious lake views: Kiser Lake State Park Campground offers waterfront cabin sites with unobstructed views. "We camped on lot 57 and the view of the lake was awesome! The new bathhouse is open year round," notes Brad H., highlighting one of the park's standout features.

Family programming: Indian Lake State Park Campground organizes regular activities for children. "This is definitely a campground for families and for those who want lots of company in their experience," explains leif D., who mentions "lots of activities for kids and families and even movies and music on the weekend."

It is kept up and maintained well," shares Angie B., though she notes "there are no shower facilities" at this location.

Water-based activities: Lake Loramie State Park features a designated swimming beach plus paddling opportunities. "The beach is one of the bigger ones I have seen in a state park and it was very clean," observes Andrea F., who also mentions a "brand new kayak launch" in the beach area.

What you should know

Bathroom facilities vary: Kiser Lake State Park Campground offers inconsistent restroom quality across its grounds. "There is a new shower house that's pretty nice, but the other bathrooms are pretty nasty," reports Aaliya B., who still considers it "a good campground" for the $29 nightly rate.

Reservation requirements: Some parks require advance booking with no walk-ins permitted. At Van Buren State Park, one visitor noted, "You must reserve a spot by phone or online only, no walk ins. I made my reservation while standing at the visitor cabin."
