    Delaware State Park Campground

    Lots of shade and mosquitoes

We stayed in site 174 on the farthest loop from the entrance. This site provided full shade all day long. The pad was pretty even so not a lot of leveling to do for our a-frame camper. The pad was easy to back in to and we had plenty of room to pull our truck forward. The site has 30 amp and 50 amp and our 30 amp was not working. We notified the park staff and they responded quickly to come out and fix it. The site had a great fire ring and lots of space for chairs, an ez-up, pop-up bathroom tent off to the side and it probably could have held 1-2 tents. There were trees close enough to set up 1-2 hammocks as well. The park staff came out it seemed to be every 3 hours to spray the water fountain in the middle of the turn around. There is a showerhouse in the middle of the loop, not a far walk or you could drive as there were a few parking spots nearby. The showerhouse had plenty of flush toilets and sinks. There were three showers that had doors, but it was just one space and no bench inside your stall. There were plenty of hooks, but you could get your items wet if you weren't careful. There is a bench outside of your stall and there is a curtain that separates you from the toilets and sinks. Not the greatest changing area if you are shy. You could tell it was the weekend as the bathrooms were a little messy, but I've seen way worse. There are also two dumpsters outside the showerhouse for trash. Watch out for the masked bandits (raccoons). They were not shy at all and we had to chase them off from our campsite. Do not leave out any food or trash, they will get into it. There are lots of trails (we found a lot of mushrooms!), a beach, playgrounds and a frisbee golf course. The mosquitoes were really bad this weekend, but we had been there last year and didn't have any issues.

    Tar Hollow State Park Campground

    Memorial Weekend 2020

After being cooped up, we (3 young adults) decided to get out and decided on this campground that was new to all of us. The campground was very low key and made for an easy going weekend! We weren’t too keen on most of the parks amenities, but enjoyed just sitting around the fire the whole time. Pros: -staff was cleaning common areas (bathroom and showers) either once or twice a day -campsite 12 was incredible space and had an added bonus of a deck structure over the creek

Other notes: -WiFi available, but only right by the main office/general store -no service for AT&T or Verizon -Fire tower not accessible -Lake tested high for a bacteria and swimming is not recommended

Corona Virus Notes: -only Ice and Firewood available for purchase at General Store -putt putt, boat and bike rentals, and game box rentals not available -nearby Hocking Hills trails were closed

    Delaware State Park Campground

    Nice Ohio State Park

This state park spans over 2,000 acres and is just north of the cute Ohio town of Delaware. We stayed here for two nights while visiting friends in the area but wished we would have stayed to enjoy all that the park had to offer. The campground was really nice and quiet when we stayed there which was during the week and in the spring and not very crowded. We can imagine that this park is pretty full in the summer with all their amenities and close proximity to major Ohio cities.

The 'pod' layout of the campground made for large campsites (some sites are over 90 feet in length and well suited for large RV’s) with good separation between sites. There are 212 sites that have 50 amp electric. The campground also has yurts for rent (May through October) that are furnished with beds, table and chairs, a cooler, ceiling fan, outdoor charcoal grill and a picnic table with canopy. This is a great option for those wanting to stay in something more than a tent but don’t have an RV.

There is no sewer or water at individual sites but there is a dump station and water fill station near the park entrance. Roads and campsites are paved with grassy patios that feature picnic tables and fire pits. The park does not provide wifi but our Verizon hotspot and 4G phone worked well. There are centrally located bath/shower houses with coin-operated laundry facilities.

The park is open year-round and great for outdoor activities; especially, those that are water-related. There are numerous boat launches, fully equipped marina, and swimming area. We launched our kayaks and had a great time paddling around the lake.  Be aware that there is no horsepower limits for boats on the lake and weekends are very popular for anglers in high-powered bass boats. The northern portion of the lake is a “no wake zone” which makes for a more pleasant paddling environment.  If you don’t have a boat, boat rentals are available at the marina.

For those wanting to hike there are plenty of hiking/biking trails for you to get out and explore the park.  Many of the trails link together so you can decide how long you want to hike. The Lakeview Trail was perfect for us as our dog loved jumping in the water during our hike. Other amenities in the park include a nature center, 18-hole disk golf, hunting, archery, volleyball, horse shoe pits, picnic areas, and an 800-foot designated swimming area.  At the camp store/office you can rent bikes as well as other sporting equipment.

If you decide to venture out of the park you are only about 40 miles from downtown Columbus and less than 20 miles to the world-renowned Columbus Zoo (which is definitely worth a visit). The nearby town of Delaware is really nice with downtown shopping, restaurants, a historic theater and brewery (Stass Brewing Company has great Belgian-style beer with a fun atmosphere).

Would definitely camp here again if we were in the area.

    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

    Jackson Lake Park

    Campground with Water Park

I stayed at this campground because they hosted a wedding I attended. I chose to stay in a cabin, which was pretty pricy for what it was. for $175, it was a basic cabin with a queen bed and 2 twin bunk-beds, a very small bathroom with a toilet and shower, and a small kitchenette with a microwave, sink, and mini-fridge. The cabin was somewhat dirty - dust on the floor and spider webs in the corner. It had no bed linens, or towels, and the bathroom didn't even have a mirror.

There is a "lake" (more of a large pond) on the property, with fishing, and large inflatables to play on in the summer. There is also a disc golf course. The nearby town Lithopolis is cute, with some local coffee and dining, as well as antique shops.

    Top O' The Caves Campground

    Great Campground for everyone

This Campground was pretty great! My wife and I stayed in a rather large tent site and my parents stayed in an RV site. The RV site was rather small without much personal space. But it worked for what they needed. The tent site was decently secluded and near a nice small pond.

The campground put on a free BBQ for all of the guests one of the nights! It was very good and well thought out. They also put on a very long firework show that night which was awesome! We must have came the perfect weekend.

The restrooms were rather large and and worked fine. As well as the showers. There are also a few nice looking cabins! There is a camp store in the office, but it's rather small without anything interesting. There is a large barn with a few arcade games that the kids seemed to like.

The best part about this Campground?? DOGS ARE ALLOWED!! We were so grateful of this because we love taking our dog camping with us!

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

    Alum Creek State Park

This is a huge campground! I tent camped by myself--felt very safe.  Happened to be next to the park host. No choice of where to locate my large tent.  Showers/bathrooms were OK--older facilities.  Wish this park had a laundry facility--another Ohio park I recently stayed at had a fairly new shower facility that included a laundry facility!  Did not appreciate the waste management company emptying the dumpsters at 4:00 AM!!!  There is a huge, lakeside beach that was just packed with people (no social distancing) and there was trash everywhere--not enough dumpsters.  Near to shopping (Polaris), if you are interested.  Will try to get a lakeside site next time.

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

    Fall Delight

This was a great experience! Nice, flat campsites, running water and flush toilets. I believe all sites are electric and we brought a projector/screen to watch some movies.

This campground is usually super booked but noise level was not an issue.

We stayed at site J24 and the only down fall was that the fire ring did not have a grate.

In Granville, Ohio, camping areas sit within the Central Ohio region at an elevation around 1,000 feet, experiencing humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summer temperatures typically reach 80-85°F during peak camping months, while spring and fall offer milder conditions in the 60-75°F range. Winter camping remains available at select locations with temperatures frequently below freezing.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Alum Creek State Park Campground, campers can enjoy fishing in the large reservoir. "Great fishing" is available according to Neal C., while Catherine notes that "the campground has a small beach within the campground, a bigger public beach a short drive away, hiking trails and campground events to enjoy."

Shooting sports: Cardinal Center Campground offers comprehensive shooting facilities just 30 miles from Granville. "They have a nice indoor pool, stocked fishing pond, and an indoor clubhouse with a pool table. The sites next to us were empty but the way it was set up, the site next to us would have had an rv angled right behind us," shares Renee L. Another visitor, George J., adds that they "went over to the shooting center and tried our luck with some silhouette and metal targets on the pistol range. They also have trap and skeet available."

Hiking trails: The trail system at Mohican State Park Campground provides diverse terrain for walkers of all skill levels. "The hiking trails are great with a covered bridge, overlook and waterfalls," reports Andrea F. Another camper, John H., points out that "there are 10 free camp sites for backpackers in Mohican, each is about a mile hike in, no vehicles can reach these sites."

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Delaware State Park Campground receives high marks for site separation. "This is probably our favourite state park we have been to thus far. The best thing about this campground is the fact that all the sites have privacy," explains Maddy B. Another camper, Marshall P., mentions that "the campground is setup in a nice layout with each of the separate sections having a spoke and wheel layout with a bathhouse in the middle. Sites are roomy and we like the wooded feel."

Water recreation: Campers appreciate the swimming options at many area campgrounds. At Jackson Lake Park, "the little lake was so much fun. My children were upset we had to leave early due to the storm coming in," according to samantha H. The park features a lake with inflatable attractions that keep children entertained throughout the day.

Spacious campsites: Many campgrounds near Granville offer ample room to spread out. According to Sandy O., Alum Creek provides "space and privacy...the two things that bring me back to this campground year after year. We have never had a 'bad' campsite at the Alum Creek State Park Campground. Each camping space is separated by trees and brush. And there is plenty of room!"

What you should know

Seasonal availability: While some campgrounds operate year-round, many glamping options near Granville have limited seasons. At Rustic Knolls Campground, the camping season runs "Apr 15 to Oct 15" according to their listing information. Brandon P. describes it as "a quiet little place to relax" where the owner "and his team are great."

Bathroom facilities vary widely: Campground bathrooms range from basic to well-appointed. At Dillon State Park, reviews note bathroom conditions fluctuate: "Shower houses weren't amazing but well maintained," according to MaKenzie J., while Brian B. points out at Mohican that "there is water at a hand pump and pit toilets."

Reservation requirements: Most glamping sites in the Granville area require advance bookings, especially during peak season. "I would definitely book ahead and look at the map to find a good spot. Some are very close to neighbors. Others are really nice," advises samantha H. about Jackson Lake Park.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Many campgrounds near Granville cater specifically to families. At Cardinal Center Campground, Kelly L. notes they have "a pool, pool tables, and a playground. You do have to pay to swim and play pool." The campground also hosts seasonal events: "We went the weekend it was Fall fest. Plenty of activities for the kids! Trick or treat, glow parade, decorate your own pumpkin, etc!"

Consider rental options: For families new to camping or glamping in Granville, Ohio, rental units provide an easier introduction. Burr Oak State Park Campground offers "great cabins" that are "inexpensive and always a pleasant stay," according to Renée C., making them perfect for family weekends.

Check the swimming options: Water features are important for family camping success. Jenny C. from Alum Creek State Park Campground shares: "We had an absolute blast at the campsite! We stayed in L and the kids loved being close to the water. The campground beach is an absolute must and we even got close to wildlife (aka some pesky raccoons)."

Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Check what utilities are available at your site before booking. At Cardinal Center Campground, Beth R. notes: "Full hookup (sewer, water, 50/30 AMP), level site, partially shaded in afternoon."

Site layout considerations: RV campers should research site configurations. At Alum Creek, Brian B. explains their sites offer good spacing: "There is reasonable space between the sites to allow for some privacy and to allow you to spread out. Area C is the most secluded area. All RV sites have 50A/30A electric."

Accessibility factors: Be aware of road conditions leading to campgrounds. At Dillon State Park Campground, Ron A. appreciates that "the pad is almost perfectly level, the grounds are well kept, and the buildings (while a bit long in the tooth) are well maintained."
