Wright-Patterson FamCamp offers basic cabins with electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings located near the Fairborn city limits. "The adorable cabin fulfilled my tiny home dreams and camping craving! The cozy cabin had a queen bed, twin bunks and a sofa that made out to a full size sleeper. Kitchen included a fridge, sink and single cup coffee maker," noted one visitor to Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA. Dayton KOA Holiday provides small cabin rentals with porches, some featuring swings overlooking the creek that runs through the property.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Dayton KOA Holiday and Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA provide more amenities than state park cabins, with some units including refrigerators, coffee makers, and kitchen sinks. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, many cabins include outdoor grills and fire rings but limited indoor cooking facilities. According to one review, "Bedding and towels were provided and were crisp, clean white" at the Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA, though this level of provision is not standard at all locations. Mound Ridge and Kiser Lake State Park Campground offer more primitive cabin options with minimal amenities, focusing on the rustic log cabin experience rather than modern conveniences.

Cozy cabin cured my camping craving!

The adorable cabin fulfilled my tiny home dreams and camping craving! The cozy cabin had a queen bed, twin bunks and a sofa that made out to a full size sleeper. Kitchen included a fridge, sink and single cup coffee maker. Coffee k cups were provided in a few different varieties as well as sugar and creamer packs. Bathroom had tub/shower, clothesline to dry swim suits or hand-washed clothes, toilet, sand sink vanity. Bedding and towels were provided and were crisp, clean white. WiFi was a bonus and although it wasn’t the fastest it was very useful when looking up nearby activities. Our cabin had a grill, an outdoor table with four chairs, a swing and a fire pit which we enjoyed our last night there. Staff was friendly and helpful. There were laundry facilities within the park and lots of activities but we didn’t take advantage of any of that during our brief stay. Overall, we were very pleased and would gladly stay again!

    Winton Woods Campground

Love this campground for a weekend rendezvous!

Winton Woods campground has spacious paved RV spaces with full hook-ups, fire ring, and picnic table. They also have cabin and tent camping. The location is located on the lake with access to put in a kayak or canoe. The bathrooms are clean, with private combined shower/dressing stalls. There is a playground for children, and a camp store that sells firewood and supplies. I love the tall pines on the property. They made me feel like I was out west. The campground is also near paved and unpaved trails in the park that surround more of the lake which allows for walking/running/hiking and bicycling, fishing, small craft boating, with small craft boat rentals available at the marina. The park also allows for horseback riding, and a small water park for children in the summer.

    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

    Cowan Lake State Park Campground

    Just plain nice

Although it’s quite a bit off the main road, it was a nice place to stay. Gate was manned when we arrived just before 8:00 pm. Clerk told us to book online once we picked our spot, as she had just closed the register. We just chose an open spot that was level as we could see in the dark. Weary from a day of travel, we put our heads on the pillow and were fast asleep. Shortly after 9 we heard several rounds of gun shots; that was alarming because it was well after sunset. All in all it was a nice spot with electric only. Several gray water dumps were situated throughout the campground. Dumpsters were full from I’m sure what was a busy weekend of fall camping. The lake was beautiful with ability to rent kayaks. Frisbee golf was onsite too. Commissary for ice and basic sundries, with playground nearby. We didn’t visit the bathhouse, so I’m unsure of it’s condition. Tenant sites with no electricity were down by the lake. Cabin rentals were in a separate spot, off the lake. All in all, in was a nice place with lots of things to do. More of a destination park, for sure.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

Beautiful setting, lots of trees and a steam that runs through it.

We stayed in a small cabin with a swing on the porch but there are many lodging choices. A stream ran behind the cabin. It has a pool and lots of kids activities. Gravel roads aren’t great for small kids learning to ride bikes but ok for older kids and adults.

    Kiser Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet Park

This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly since it doesn’t allow any kind of boat with a motor. It also features a beach , 2 playgrounds and several hiking trails. Just be careful if you hike with dogs since some trails intersect with a nature preserve which doesn’t allow pets.

The campground itself has 20 electric sites , 56 primitive sites and 4 camper cabins. All the electric sites are pull through and all sites have a fire pit but only the electric sites come with picnic tables.

Due to off season and COVID the camp store is closed and there is no camper host or park office staff around.

We did notice lots of downed trees on the poorly marked hiking trails. Some trails just started but no maps were around and no trails were blazed. It was hard to tell where we were headed or how long a trail was. I tried using the new Detour app and it wasn’t very accurate for this park.

We did have good Verizon cell coverage.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

    Nice KOA

A nice KOA, with fire pit areas and picnic areas. Each state has a picnic table and the gravel site that we had was level. There is a group yurt for rent a nice little store, and quite a few cabins as well as gazebos and other gathering areas. Wi-fi is horrible even with a booster and sketchy over the air channels.

    Really Well Done

There are cabins, campsites in trees, campsites that aren’t. There’s a nice Mixture of available sites. All the employees are very nice and helpful. They really work hard to maintain the site. The pool is nice. There is a nice play area for kids. They have a short path in the woods which is a nice little loop. Great location with lots to do!

Guide to Fairborn

Cabin rental options near Fairborn, Ohio provide various accommodations within a 30-minute drive of the city. Most cabins are situated in state parks or private campgrounds, with many open year-round despite Ohio's seasonal weather patterns. The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base area offers several lodging alternatives that serve as convenient bases for exploring nearby attractions including Dayton's museums and natural areas.

What to do

Swimming at designated beaches: Buck Creek State Park Campground features a swimming beach that campers can access during summer months. "There are two swimming beaches, the public one and one in the campground. The campground one is smaller a short hike to get to it," explains Leon H., noting that while both beaches are "ok, but nothing impressive," they provide a welcome break from summer heat.

Explore local caves: The Ohio Caverns are within driving distance of Buck Creek State Park Campground. "We visited the Ohio Caverns. The tour is worth the money, the 'gem' mining was fun for our younger kids," notes Leon H., making it a good day trip option from your cabin base.

Paddling on restricted waters: Kiser Lake State Park offers a unique boating experience as the lake prohibits motorized vessels. "This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly since it doesn't allow any kind of boat with a motor," writes Andrea F., making it ideal for peaceful paddling from lakeside cabin accommodations.

What campers like

Private showers: Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA receives praise for its exceptional bathroom facilities. "The bathrooms are amazing and private," states Brian B., highlighting a comfort feature many cabin campers appreciate when standard cabin rentals don't include personal bathrooms.

Heated pool access: Many families appreciate the swimming options at Wilmington RV Resort, where the pool stands out. "The pool is large and heated," notes Susan B., while Ryan H. adds, "The staff were friendly and the pool is heated! My family and I had a good time at Wilmington."

Proximity to bike trails: Cabin locations serve as starting points for cycling adventures. "The campground was only about three miles from a trailhead on the Little Miami Scenic Trail," notes Cindy B. about Olive Branch Campground, which offers cabin accommodations near regional cycling routes.

What you should know

Limited tree cover: Some cabin areas lack adequate shade. At Cowan Lake State Park, "sites were VERY close together, with most of the campground completely exposed with no shade," according to Megan M., who compared it to "trying to relax on a huge parking lot."

Mixed bathroom conditions: Facilities vary significantly between parks with cabin rentals. "The restrooms are decent. They weren't new; however, they were very clean," reports Kim H. about Cowan Lake State Park Campground, while at Kiser Lake State Park "there is no running water- no showers and smelly pit toilets."

Campground connectivity: Cell service and internet availability differ between locations. At Wilmington RV Resort, one camper noted, "I use Starlink and T-mobile 5G. The T-Mobile seems to be working best here," while Buck Creek reports adequate Verizon service in most areas.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several cabin rental locations offer play areas for children. "Nice Playground, on-site pond and we stayed on a FHU site. They have recently added a pirate ship on the playground," reports Joseph T. about Olive Branch Campground, which focuses exclusively on cabin rentals.

Fishing accessibility: Kiser Lake State Park Campground provides fishing opportunities directly from some cabin sites. "This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly... We did notice lots of downed trees on the poorly marked hiking trails," notes Andrea F., highlighting mixed recreation options.

Activity programming: Wright-Patterson FamCamp offers organized recreation. "There is a full bath house with showers and bathrooms, a rec center with rental equipment for getting out on the lake, and a clubhouse. There is a field with bleachers for ball games, and a nice fenced in dog park," explains Janet R.

Tips from RVers

Arrival logistics: Dayton KOA Holiday provides escort service to your cabin site. "It was the off season so, we didn't really have neighbors. But, still had a site escort," notes Clean Slate D., indicating the attentive service available even during quieter periods.

Seasonal considerations: Many cabin rental locations have different amenities available depending on time of year. "Granted, we visited in late March, and they may not have been at peak season form," explains Joel R. about Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA, noting that pools and some facilities were closed during early spring stays.

Reservation requirements: Holiday periods require advance planning for cabin rentals. "We had a 4 day 3 night long weekend. Camp host on I think lot 71 or there about were great at keeping the activities going. Every night there was a movie and you could buy root beer floats for $1!!" shares Melissa M. about a holiday weekend at Buck Creek.
