Hankinson Hills Campground has two camping loops. One camping loop, with six campsites, allows campers to have horses and the other camping loop, with nine campsites, is designated for campers without horses. There are a total of 15 campsites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. There is a large picnic shelter for day use and group events, as well as a large group fire ring with benches. The large picnic shelter is free-of-charge and open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. While at the campground, you can enjoy the area by hiking the eight-mile loop Hankinson Hills Trail, viewing wildlife, identifying wildflowers, and many other activities. One of the trailheads for Hankinson Hills Trail is located in the campground.

Jorgen’s Hollow Campground is located forty miles southwest of Fargo, North Dakota. Click here for a map of the Jorgen’s Hollow Campground and Trails. Jorgen’s Hollow Campground has 14 primitive campsites nestled within the oak savanna. Seven of those sites allow campers to have horses and seven sites are designated for campers without horses. Each campsite has a graveled pad, with a picnic table and fire ring. Campsites are open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Potable water and vaulted toilets are available. While at the campground, you can enjoy the area by hiking the Oak Leafor North Country National Scenic Trail, viewing wildlife, birding, identifying wildflowers, and many other activities. Trailheads are located in the campground. Directions from ND Highway 18: Turn west onto County Road 4, travel three miles and turn north on County Road 23. Travel north on County Road 23 for two and three quarter’s mile until you reach the campground on the east side of the road. Directions from ND Highway 27: Turn north onto County Road 4 and travel three miles, then turn east and travel one mile to County Road 23. Sheyenne National Grassland is located in southeastern North Dakota, comprising 70,180 acres (28,400 ha) of public land amid 64,769 acres (26,211 ha) of privately owned land. It is characterized by sandy soils, originally deposited as the delta of an ancient river as it emptied into glacial Lake Agassiz. Since that time, wind and rain have shaped the topography into a unique landscape ranging from flat deltaic plains to choppy sand dunes. It is the only National Grassland in the tallgrass prairie region of the United States. The grassland provides habitat for greater prairie chickens in North Dakota as well as several other sensitive species such as the Dakota skipper and Regal Fritillary. It also contains one of largest populations of the western prairie fringed orchid, which has been placed on the list of Threatened Species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Other unique plants found on the grassland include other orchids and ferns. The grassland is managed with prescribed grazing, fire, and mowing. These programs are all managed in cooperation with the local grazing association. Treatment of noxious weeds is also very important and is accomplished through herbicide application, biocontrol, and sheep grazing. Recreation opportunities abound throughout the grassland. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, hunting, camping, horseback riding, photography, and backpacking. See Activities section below for detailed descriptions. Some points of interest to visit while on the grassland include: Iron Springs creek, the Horseshoe Hills, Old Bridges, Owego Pioneer Cemetery, and an Old Fire Lookout Tower. The grassland is located in eastern Ransom and western Richland counties, about 12 miles (19km) east of the city of Lisbon. The grassland is administered by the Forest Service as part of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands from the Supervisor’s office in Bismarck, North Dakota. The local Sheyenne Ranger District office is located in Lisbon, North Dakota. Other places of interest in the vicinity of Sheyenne National Grassland include: The town of McLeod, North Dakota. Visitors can learn about the area’s history, including some of the Grassland’s history at the McLeod Museum Complex. The museum complex includes a Presbyterian Church built in 1909, the Soo Line Depot, a homestead house built in the late 1800s, and a one-room school house which operated from 1904-2002. McLeod is located three miles south of Highway 27 on County Road 54 or 149th Avenue SE. The Nature Conservancy operates Brown Ranchthrough their Sheyenne Delta office located just a few miles southwest of McLeod, ND. LegendGeneral: RV style camping on Pomme de Terre Lake and Kenny Lake. Many sites are lakefront or have a view of the lake. We were one of the few (if not only) non-seasonal campers at this campground.
Site Quality: Our site was located directly behind the store/office but had a view of the lake. Parking was on grass. The site was level and had an electric hookup. A wooden picnic table (in good shape) and a fire ring complete the site. When I called to make a reservation, I asked for a non-electric site but was told the primitive sites are far from the restrooms. I’m glad we settled on an electric site as the primitive ones, besides the distance from the restrooms, would also only be suitable for tents.
Bath/Shower house: Reasonably clean but I’ve seen better. Two showers, two toilets, and one sink. The shower had hot water and good flow, but it was cramped with little room to get dressed (plus the showers are located right inside the door, impeding privacy.
Activities: All the activities you would associate with lakefront camping. None of these applied to us but it was a good overnight location for passing through. Several speed boats zoomed by on the lake, and I imagine that on a summer weekend, the boat traffic would be much increased. There is a fish cleaning station. There are nice docks with benches to enjoy the view of the lake/sunset.
This campground is not our preferred type of camping – no privacy between sites but on a weekday toward the end of August, it was very quiet (but still HOT). We appreciate that we were assigned a lakeview site as not all of them are.

I was lucky enough to get a spot far under the trees. It was quite private and even though it was labor day weekend, it was quiet and peaceful. Good cell service, I was able to work on Friday via my hot spot. The campground is well maintained and the trail had just been mowed. Unfortunately there are stickers and poor tuck found a number of them. We still had fun.
LegendThe campsites are integrated into the fairgrounds which is different but nice. Very little shade for most of the sites and the reservation process is a bit difficult to navigate but the sites is nice and quiet. There is a bathroom and an outside shower but way better if you have a full camper. Nice access to town and bike trails and across the street and some trails down by the river.
LegendThere's a short row of camp spots in the sun for campers. Seems like a good portion of it is full of people who are here all the time. The rest of the campers are in the back of their truck, which i'm not opposed to, but they're in pretty tough shape and very old. I will say this is one of the least safe places. I have felt in North Dakota.

But they are very nice and friendly and I ended up with the best spot ever as it is right on the water and under the only few trees available. There is actually 3 campgrounds and they surround the lake. Some of the nicest tent spots I've seen. Small Frisbee golf course and not much formal hiking but you can boat on this lake and lots of fishing from the shore. Poor cell service but lots of open sky and the sat service is killing it today.

We might be back to this campground, assuming we don't have cell service where we're going. Calling a campground is a stretch. It's a few parking spots near a small park right inside the town. They're cute. They're nice summer in the shade. And I think milner's a pretty town.

LegendStayed for a few days and thought it was nice. There are two sections and one offers full services and the other just electric service but better shade. The park is well used by the community as there were softball games nightly and the pool was full.

Each site has a fire ring and a nice table, most spaces have trees to provide shade. Verizon works okay, not great but I had a bar or two. Can hear trains running by every so often. Only downside was the abundance of biting flies and mosquitoes.

Wonderful office staff, very kind and helpful. We intended to stay at the tent site but when we arrived we saw a lovely cabin overlooking the lake and decided to give ourselves a treat. It was very clean and comfortable. You can tell they work very hard to make the interior inviting and the kitchen well supplied with nice kitchenware. Highly recommend.

A beautiful waterfront RV park bought by a group of young entrepreneurs and van lifers to rebrand as a more communal space! Awesome hilltop van life area with water and power, wifi, etc. Park has water front beach, boat rentals and game/hangout spaces. Highly recommend!

In the evening the best part was listening to the trees in the breeze. it's pretty well dispersed camping with bushes for the most part separating the sites. the toilets are clean. There's a nice four Mile easy trail that comes out of the campsite area. I visited on weekday they're only five campers when I showed up and by the time I left there were zero campers.

GuideThis campground is right by a lake with almost every activity you could think of! Only bad thing was owner was not in the office for hours at a time. Spaces are wooded and farther apart than most campgrounds. I wish we could have stayed longer than one night.
