    Statesville RV Park I-77

    Right off of Interstate

This KOA is RIGHT off of the interstate. If you are in midtravel and need a place to overnight this is a nice KOA for that. The camping cabins are cozy, we stayed in a single which has 1 dbl bed and twin sized bunk bed. Staff was very friendly. I wouldn't consider this a camping destination.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Fantastic quiet get away

We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as well were pretty clean for a camp ground, I was pleasantly surprised. The path to the bathrooms light up at night so you can find your way very easy in the dark. Camp ground itself was very clean and I often saw the staff working on cleaning it and interacting with the campers. The designated swimming area was like a piece of heaven. Small not to overly packed, very clean beach. We plan on coming pack to do tent camping with our dog, fantastic family or romantic couple retreat.

    Small clean campground

Stayed 1 night, sites are close to each other. Small cabins available, walk-in campsites and restrooms are clean and updated. Very nice trail along the lake perimeter and Championship Disc golf course.

    Cane Creek Park

A Great Place for the Whole Family.

Located just outside historic Waxhaw NC, Cane Creek is part of the NC Soil Conservative Sites. They offer day passes,$4.00 per car where you can launch you kayak canoe or fishing boat. If you like Bass Fishing, they rank as one of the best spots around. They have swimming areas for both day users and one for campers. This really is a gem within Union Co NC. The campground is on the other side of the lake. They have camping for RV’s, Cabin Rentals and tent sites for either large groups or individuals. The hiking trail is beautiful and takes you around the whole lake. Watch for horses, as this is a great place for riders too.

    Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA

Great for trip to Charlotte NC

We came here to do some trailer maintenance and because it is very close to home. We were not expecting it to be a great camping experience, but we’re pleasantly surprised! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the campsites were clean, and the bath houses were newly updated and immaculate. The roads in the section we stayed in were a bit rough (a combination of asphalt and gravel), but perfectly fine for camping. Most of the sites have good shade, but unfortunately our site was in full sun. Our site had full hookups, and a picnic table that was pretty rickety. No fire ring. The sites are very close together, and most are back to back sharing a driveway. Personally we prefer a more secluded camping spot, but this KOA is perfect for an overnight on your way to another location, a trip to nearby Charlotte, or like us, utilizing the full hookups for some waterline maintenance.

    Cane Creek Park

    Great clean campground

We have stayed at Cane Creek 2x now and enjoy the park so much. Lake, hiking trails and nice wooded campsites with fire rings and close proximity to bath houses. Playground for kids, little store, friendly staff. Beach swimming area closed due to Covid but looks nice. Park on other side of lake has picnic shelters, more trails, frisbee golf and kayak rentals that will open after Covid. Only problem is that both times we visited there was a storm and power went out for hours. Can’t really do anything about that!

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

    Good

So, if you end up in a crap site you might drop those 4 stars to 3. Its going to be impossible to determine a great site from a bad without going there since the only pic they have online is from site 1. B loop, has a lot of RVs. A loop, has the amphitheater. C loop, felt like the smallest loop and really close to the entry hiking trail. We've stayed in both A and C. C loop, site 48, is where we stayed this trip. Its a good site. Close to the showers, which are clean and well maintained. Close to the trash bins and water spicket as well. Behind the site is a great little "valley" to explore if you have kids/dogs. Has awesome trees for hammocks and the tent pad doesnt slope. Did not love the fire pit at this site but the sites to the left and right are great. Overall, tons of sites and good clean facilities. The trails are plentiful so you shouldnt run out of places to explore.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Family friendly, clean, quiet considering close proximity of neighbors

Very family friendly camp ground. Sites are close together, but not too terrible. Sites include tent pad, fire ring with grate, table, lantern hook. Facilities we're kept nicely, host was very helpful and makes rounds in the evenings with firewood ($5 bundle). Hiked the trail head near the campground, to the river.. lovely hike NO RIVER ACCESS FOR FISHING though... Embankment is too steep, we learned this after the 2.5 mile hike with the kids... Went down the road to the lake the next day (they have boat rentals, though we didn't get one).

Guide to Indian Trail

Cabin accommodations near Indian Trail, North Carolina provide year-round shelter options within 30-45 minutes of the town. Located in Union County at approximately 700 feet elevation, this area experiences mild winters and warm summers with average July temperatures reaching 90°F. Seasonal considerations affect cabin pricing with most properties charging 25-40% more during summer months than in winter.

What to do

Hiking opportunities: Morrow Mountain State Park Campground offers multiple trail options ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. "I spent a night at the primitive campsite and hiked a few trails. The park is gorgeous and full of life. I saw plenty of frogs and tadpoles in the creeks, listened to a symphony of birds, and I'm pretty sure heard a few coyotes throughout the night," notes one visitor. The trails are well-marked with clear signage.

Water recreation: Cane Creek Park provides lake access for fishing and paddling sports. "We have been here 3 times all for a week at a time and love it. Holidays usually have some activities for kids. The mini golf is free and a blast. The swim area is only open on Saturdays or you can drive to the day use side and be over there," reports one regular visitor. Kayak rentals are available seasonally.

Animal viewing: Dan Nicholas Park maintains a small zoo on property along with other family attractions. "This place is the best places for families to camp. There is a beautiful zoo, gem mining, a train ride, amazing fishing, a beautiful playground, and a carousel," according to one camper. The zoo features primarily native North Carolina wildlife species.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Lake Norman State Park Campground receives high marks for maintenance and cleanliness. "I have camped all across the US and this was the nicest and cleanest campground I have ever been in. Fantastic experience. I highly highly recommend," states one experienced camper. The recently renovated bathhouses receive particularly positive reviews.

Seasonal activities: Campgrounds in the region often host special events during holiday periods. At Cane Creek Park, "Holidays usually have some activities for kids. The mini golf is free and a blast," notes one visitor. Most facilities increase programming from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Spacious sites: Dan Nicholas Park provides comfortable camping spaces. "Site next to one of the lake access trails. Spacious site. We were able to get our 37 ft camper level. Shaded so the a/c s were able to keep up with the heat no issue," reports one satisfied visitor. The mature tree coverage throughout most Indian Trail area cabin sites helps moderate summer temperatures.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Lake Norman State Park Campground requires advance booking, especially during peak periods. "I stayed at this location for 10 days. The campground is well kept and clean. The staff and the camp host were very courteous. It was a very quiet stay," reports one visitor who planned ahead. Many cabin facilities near Indian Trail book 3-6 months in advance for summer weekends.

Service reliability: Yates Family Camping receives mixed reviews regarding dependability. "We made a reservation well in advance but the owner decided to cancel our confirmed reservation to accommodate a previous renter who decided to stay longer. THANK YOU YATES FAMILY! Obviously there was no consideration if we were left without a place to stay," warns one frustrated visitor. Always confirm reservations by phone several days before arrival.

Facility conditions: Some cabin providers maintain better standards than others. At Norwood Campground, "The owners are all super friendly and helpful. The laundry room, bathrooms, and showers are all sparkling clean. We were very happy with our stay here," while others report dated facilities at some locations. Cabin standards vary significantly across properties.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Norwood Campground offers numerous family-friendly amenities. "Decent campground with a pond for fishing, a swimming pool, and a store. The pool doesn't have normal steps that you walk down into the pool on, they only have the ladder steps which make it a little tricky getting in with a small child," notes one parent. Many Indian Trail area cabins lack dedicated children's activities on-site.

Educational opportunities: Dan Nicholas Park incorporates learning experiences with recreation. "Beautiful zoo, gem mining, a train ride, amazing fishing, a beautiful playground, and a carousel," highlights what families can expect. Most activities operate on weekends year-round but daily during summer months.

Safety considerations: Morrow Mountain State Park Campground provides secure facilities with regular staff presence. "The camp host was very helpful and checked on everybody, every day," reports a visitor. Most cabin properties near Indian Trail maintain on-site staff or hosts, but hours vary seasonally.

Tips from RVers

Connectivity concerns: Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort provides reliable utility hookups but variable internet access. "We've loved staying at Yates due to the flexibility and excellent communication of the owners. There aren't really any extras here but if you're just looking for reliable water/electrical/sewer and wifi near Charlotte this is a fantastic option," notes one RVer. Cell service remains strong throughout the Indian Trail region.

Site conditions: Norwood Campground maintains natural settings despite full hookups. "Vintage without being run down. The owners have done a great job of retaining the 'old school' charm of the place while keeping up with utilities and overall functionality. We particularly appreciated the intact tree canopy; many rv parks these days are sun baked parking lots but not here," explains a visitor. Most cabin facilities near Indian Trail provide gravel parking areas sufficient for one vehicle.

Off-season advantages: Winter months offer better availability and reduced rates. "I stayed here when the amusement park was closed so it was very quite and hardly anyone there. It had just rained a bunch so it was a bit muddy but it looked like all the spots are blacktop to park on so it was alright," notes a visitor to Carowinds. November through February cabin rates average 30-40% below peak summer prices.
