    Statesville RV Park I-77

    Right off of Interstate

This KOA is RIGHT off of the interstate. If you are in midtravel and need a place to overnight this is a nice KOA for that. The camping cabins are cozy, we stayed in a single which has 1 dbl bed and twin sized bunk bed. Staff was very friendly. I wouldn't consider this a camping destination.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Fantastic quiet get away

We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as well were pretty clean for a camp ground, I was pleasantly surprised. The path to the bathrooms light up at night so you can find your way very easy in the dark. Camp ground itself was very clean and I often saw the staff working on cleaning it and interacting with the campers. The designated swimming area was like a piece of heaven. Small not to overly packed, very clean beach. We plan on coming pack to do tent camping with our dog, fantastic family or romantic couple retreat.

    Cane Creek Park

A Great Place for the Whole Family.

Located just outside historic Waxhaw NC, Cane Creek is part of the NC Soil Conservative Sites. They offer day passes,$4.00 per car where you can launch you kayak canoe or fishing boat. If you like Bass Fishing, they rank as one of the best spots around. They have swimming areas for both day users and one for campers. This really is a gem within Union Co NC. The campground is on the other side of the lake. They have camping for RV’s, Cabin Rentals and tent sites for either large groups or individuals. The hiking trail is beautiful and takes you around the whole lake. Watch for horses, as this is a great place for riders too.

    Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA

Great for trip to Charlotte NC

We came here to do some trailer maintenance and because it is very close to home. We were not expecting it to be a great camping experience, but we’re pleasantly surprised! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the campsites were clean, and the bath houses were newly updated and immaculate. The roads in the section we stayed in were a bit rough (a combination of asphalt and gravel), but perfectly fine for camping. Most of the sites have good shade, but unfortunately our site was in full sun. Our site had full hookups, and a picnic table that was pretty rickety. No fire ring. The sites are very close together, and most are back to back sharing a driveway. Personally we prefer a more secluded camping spot, but this KOA is perfect for an overnight on your way to another location, a trip to nearby Charlotte, or like us, utilizing the full hookups for some waterline maintenance.

    Cane Creek Park

    Great clean campground

We have stayed at Cane Creek 2x now and enjoy the park so much. Lake, hiking trails and nice wooded campsites with fire rings and close proximity to bath houses. Playground for kids, little store, friendly staff. Beach swimming area closed due to Covid but looks nice. Park on other side of lake has picnic shelters, more trails, frisbee golf and kayak rentals that will open after Covid. Only problem is that both times we visited there was a storm and power went out for hours. Can’t really do anything about that!

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

    Good

So, if you end up in a crap site you might drop those 4 stars to 3. Its going to be impossible to determine a great site from a bad without going there since the only pic they have online is from site 1. B loop, has a lot of RVs. A loop, has the amphitheater. C loop, felt like the smallest loop and really close to the entry hiking trail. We've stayed in both A and C. C loop, site 48, is where we stayed this trip. Its a good site. Close to the showers, which are clean and well maintained. Close to the trash bins and water spicket as well. Behind the site is a great little "valley" to explore if you have kids/dogs. Has awesome trees for hammocks and the tent pad doesnt slope. Did not love the fire pit at this site but the sites to the left and right are great. Overall, tons of sites and good clean facilities. The trails are plentiful so you shouldnt run out of places to explore.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Family friendly, clean, quiet considering close proximity of neighbors

Very family friendly camp ground. Sites are close together, but not too terrible. Sites include tent pad, fire ring with grate, table, lantern hook. Facilities we're kept nicely, host was very helpful and makes rounds in the evenings with firewood ($5 bundle). Hiked the trail head near the campground, to the river.. lovely hike NO RIVER ACCESS FOR FISHING though... Embankment is too steep, we learned this after the 2.5 mile hike with the kids... Went down the road to the lake the next day (they have boat rentals, though we didn't get one).

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

    Pretty Basic

Plentiful campsites, we arrived on a Friday without a reservation and were able to get a spot. There is a swimming pool, but we didn't swim. Some hikes nearby, but far from the swimming spots in the Uwharrie National Forest. No bathrooms near the campsites, but there were spigots with potable water. The tent pads were even and well packed. All sites had a picnic bench and a fire pit with a grate.

Guide to Harrisburg

Cabin rentals near Harrisburg, North Carolina sit at an elevation of approximately 700 feet within the rolling Piedmont region of the state. Most accommodations are concentrated within a 30-mile radius of Harrisburg, providing access to both urban amenities and rural landscapes. Seasonal temperature variations between summer highs averaging 89°F and winter lows around 30°F affect cabin camping availability and recreational options.

What to do

Paddle on Lake Norman: Rent kayaks at Lake Norman State Park Campground where the shoreline offers multiple launch points. "We fished, rode bikes, hiked and saw plenty of wildlife. Not too close to the neighbors, and the camp host were nice," notes a visitor who enjoyed the varied activities.

Visit amusement parks: Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort offers cabin accommodations with convenient shuttle service. "We had a blast; even with younger kids. RV sites and cabins, friendly staff, free shuttle to the amusement park, great community center, and more," shares one camper.

Try mini golf: Free putting greens at Cane Creek Park provide entertainment for all ages. "Nice campground. Got very busy on Friday through the weekend. Nice lake and hiking trails. Free putt-putt. Clean bathrooms and hot showers," a visitor reports.

Explore multiple trails: Lake Norman State Park features interconnected hiking paths with lake views. "Very clean and quite and very close to Charlotte. Nice, moderate hiking trails. Swimming and kayaking. You'll probably see deer but have never seen a bear," mentions a regular visitor.

What campers like

Convenient urban access: Many cabin campers appreciate proximity to Charlotte from various locations. "We were passing through for a trade show and picked the spot as it was 15 min from our event. Great place. Clean, well designed and maintained. Wooded perimeter so you feel you are away from the city," notes a guest at Carowinds Camp Wilderness.

Clean facilities: Lake Norman State Park Campground receives consistent praise for maintenance. "I have camped all across the US and this was the nicest and cleanest campground I have ever been in. Fantastic experience. I highly highly recommend!" shares an enthusiastic visitor.

Family-friendly amenities: Dan Nicholas Park offers additional attractions beyond standard camping. "This place is the best places for families to camp. There is a beautiful zoo, gem mining, a train ride, amazing fishing, a beautiful playground, and a carousel. The campsites are nice and the facilities are fairly clean."

Lakeside options: Water access ranks high among cabin camper priorities. "Very clean, with meticulously maintained and picturesque grounds. Providing shuttle service to the front gate for park entry, this is an excellent choice for overnight stays and Carowinds outings," explains a satisfied visitor.

What you should know

Bathhouse variations: Facility quality differs significantly between locations. "The bathhouse is in good shape and clean. I will come back when I'm in this area," reports a visitor to Cane Creek Park, while others note limited facilities at some locations.

Site spacing concerns: Privacy levels vary dramatically between campgrounds. "If you end up in a crap site you might drop those 4 stars to 3. Its going to be impossible to determine a great site from a bad without going there since the only pic they have online is from site 1," cautions a camper at Morrow Mountain State Park Campground.

Limited services at some locations: Not all cabin rentals offer full amenities. "I lived here for two years on a long term spot. If short term you will be In a small gravel lot. There are no amenities, no shower houses. No frills," advises a visitor to Elmore RV Park.

Seasonal variations: Summer holiday weekends see substantial crowding at most locations. "It was surprisingly busy, almost all sites occupied. There is not much space between the sides, but the park is huge and right at the lake," notes a Thanksgiving weekend visitor to Lake Norman.

Tips for camping with families

Check playground proximity: Some campgrounds provide extensive children's facilities. "We live just a few miles from Dan Nicholas, but love to 'get away' there any chance we get. Plenty to do, super nice folks, and roomy, shady sites. The kids take their bikes, but even without them, they stay plenty busy," shares a local family.

Consider camp shuttle services: Carowinds Camp Wilderness offers transportation to attractions. "This campground is owned by carowinds and has free bus rides to and from the park from open until close. Bathhouses are private and clean. This is a perfect place to stay because after a long day of rides you can come right back to your camper to relax instead of driving all the way home."

Look for educational components: Several parks offer nature centers with wildlife displays. "This campground has a lot to offer. Hiking, swimming, fishing at it's Carolina best. Outdoorsies will not be sorry if they visit Lake Norman State Park. Rangers give guided informative hikes (a mile or so) at different times in season," recommends an experienced camper.

Verify seasonal operations: Swimming areas and some amenities close during winter months. "Beach swimming area closed due to Covid but looks nice. Park on other side of lake has picnic shelters, more trails, frisbee golf and kayak rentals that will open after Covid," reports a visitor to Cane Creek Park.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Surface conditions impact RV setup at many locations. "The sites are level with full hook ups. The nighttime noise was bothersome, not sure where it was coming from, likely outside the campground," reports a traveler staying at Carowinds.

Limited full hookup availability: Not all cabin camping areas offer complete RV connections. "Well not much here, no office or bathrooms. Water and electric and a dump station. Friendly owners and very close to Charlotte motor speedway," notes a visitor to Yates Family Camping.

Highway noise concerns: Several locations near major roads experience traffic sounds. "The campground is right next to the interstate so you definitely could hear road traffic all night long. Convenient stop for traveling but would not want to spend multiple days here," cautions a visitor about one location.

Check for Wi-Fi quality: Connectivity varies substantially between parks. "Very limited wi-fi, dated bathrooms, most amenities closed," reports a recent Dan Nicholas Park visitor, while another notes, "Starlink was great for connectivity in most sites. Some sites are shaded around the edges and would be tough for starlink."
