Best RV Parks & Resorts near Harrisburg, NC

Several RV parks cluster near Harrisburg, North Carolina, providing varied motorhome accommodations for visitors exploring the region. Glenwood Acres RV Park offers full hookups with 50-amp electric service and water connections on level gravel sites. Most parks in the area support big rigs with pull-through pads and adequate turning radius. "We stayed here for a couple of months and loved it! It has definitely gone more full over the last months. We were on a hill but since we were close to all the trees I didn't mind it," noted one camper about Crown Cove RV Park. Cobble Hill RV Campground (formerly Carolina Rose) provides 84 sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service, complete with picnic tables at each pull-through rv pad.

Across the Charlotte metropolitan area, RV campgrounds typically operate year-round with varying amenity levels. While Elmore RV Park offers a no-frills experience with minimal amenities but convenient city access, places like Statesville RV Park I-77 provide more extensive facilities including showers, dump stations, and on-site stores. According to one visitor, "It's not a campground really...basically by the interstate and just a place to stay." Many parks require advance reservations, particularly during racing events at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Most locations allow pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Dump stations are available at select facilities including Lake Norman State Park, which maintains paved motorhome sites with electric hookups but requires separate visits to the water fill and dump station areas.

    Midway Campground Resort

    Family-Friendly

This is a small, family-friendly campground. There is a pond for fishing, a nice pool, a jump pad, playground, arcade, and mini-golf. Plenty for kids to do. The best feature is a haunted trail at Halloween (this gets very busy so be aware if you plan to camp around this time of year). Sites are not necessarily level and big rigs might have a hard time navigating the campground, but folks are friendly and it's a nice place to spend a few days. They do offer long-term sites if you need to stay in the area for a while.

Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

    Overall a Good Experience

Took the new pop-up to Kings Mountain State Park this past weekend and had a great time. The sites are pretty close together, but we still had adequate room to spread out. Each site has water, 30 amp electric, a picnic table, and a fire pit ring. Our site was a pull-through, but the majority of them are back-in. Throughout the campground, AT&T had great cell coverage, but Verizon was non-existent. Our site was a stone's throw from the bath/shower house, which was clean and recently updated. When not in the side, a short walk takes you to the Trading Post, a small store selling firewood ($7), ice, souvenirs, and sundries. Next to that is a large playground connected to a pavilion. A short 2 minute drive (or longer hike if you are feeling ambitious) takes you to the Kings Mountain Military Museum where you can learn of all things historical to Kings Mountain. There's a small model village and numerous other attractions to view while at the park as well. Overall this was a great experience. It's close to home for us, and the price was fantastic ($30 nightly). Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort

    convenient to Carowinds, decent campground

Older campground lots of shade.  staff very friendly and helpful. We were really surprised with how much has been invested in Carowinds over the years by Cedar Fair that the campground has been untouched.  Bathrooms/bathhouses were very clean and seem to be the one part of the campground that has been updated.  One section of the campground has been turned into long term camping and many looked like they had been there for years.  campground was quiet other than noise from air traffic as airport is nearby but it was minor.   Campsites have decent space in between each other which is great bc the sites are small in length and you will be parking either beside the rig or sideways in front of it. We stayed in a back-in site and most back-in sites seemed rather level but pull throughs were hit or miss on that aspect.  If you are staying here to go to the park then it is very convenient and has an excellent shuttle that runs frequently and drops you off near the front gate.  Very small camp store that has most of the basics. Campground overall is clean, safe and secure but we expected a little more from theme park campground.  We live nearby and are pass holders at Carowinds so we will likely stay frequently due to the convenience.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Beautiful park, great facilities

Full hookups were all filled but site 29 was a primitive, deep, level 57 foot site right near water siphon and a beautiful modern bathhouse picnic table and fire grate/ring. Fair amount of space between sites, firewood sold by camphost or ranger. Made yummy hot dogs over fire, wonderful night, hot showers, clean facilities. You will be thrilled with this park, lake is beautiful, many hiking trails, biking, etc. Verizon cell service was excellent at our site and appeared good throughout park.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

    Nice quiet state park

This is a very nice state park. The sites are well spaced and wooded. (If you think they are too close together you haven’t been to many private campgrounds). Our site was level and spacious, although some were not as level. Our first site had an awkward incline. The guy at the trading post said they were working on them. We were there mid-week and the campground was very quiet. The only noise was from crows and other birds, and acorns falling in the woods. There is electric (some 50 amp) and water but no sewer. There are 2 dump stations. Several bathrooms/showers are available. There is a nice playground, hiking trails, a lake, canoe rental, and a trading post with some food, ice, camping supplies, firewood and souvenirs. There is also a separate Equestrian campground! The stare park is adjacent to Kings Mountain National Battlefield Park, with Revolutionary War history and more hiking.

    Crown Cove RV Park

    Keep Driving!

Subpar; seems to cater to long term residents. For the 3 pages of rules and regulations I was expecting a pristine campground; what we found was a half paved parking lot and our lot was on a hill side which made using our full hookups going up hill. No fire pit! Must provide ur own, rules state belongings must be 3ft away from away from neighboring sites which is almost impossible with how close sites are. Pass it up! Keep Driving! Would have given less than one star if possible

    Zooland Family Campground

Great spot, well placed with Zoo.

Great stay. Minutes from the zoo. We did a three day weekend here, with a day at the zoo, and the rest of the time playing at the campground.

    3 kids all loved it.

Sites were gravel, not all level, but not too bad. Full hook-ups, picnic table and fire pit. Extremely friendly staff.

Guide to Harrisburg

Located in Cabarrus County at approximately 700 feet elevation, this area experiences mild winters and warm summers, with average July temperatures reaching 90°F. Most campgrounds in the region remain open year-round with varying seasonal activities, though summer weekends often require advance booking due to NASCAR events.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Forest Lake RV Resort in nearby Advance, campers can enjoy freshwater fishing in the small lake. "I cought 2 sunfishes in 30 min & I'm no fisherman," reports one visitor who appreciated the stocked fishing pond.

Mini golf and games: Many Harrisburg area campgrounds offer recreational facilities for families. "There is a putt putt course, pool, adults only pool and lounge, family lounge with small arcade games, pool table, and other games," notes a camper about Forest Lake's extensive amenities.

Explore local towns: The camping locations provide good access to nearby communities. "We were looking for a place to stay that would be close to the venue and close to the bride's family and happen upon this little gem," shared one visitor about Cobble Hill RV Campground when planning for a family wedding in the area.

What campers like

Proximity to Charlotte: The Harrisburg area's location makes it perfect for accessing urban amenities while camping. "Good for staying close to city," reports a reviewer about Elmore RV Park, noting it works well for those wanting both camping and city access.

Family activities: Parents appreciate the organized events at many campgrounds. "Many activities offered for family with 2 large pools etc," wrote a camper about Lake Myers RV Resort, while another called it a "Hidden Gem" with "fun activities... kid friendly... love playing BINGO here!!"

Small farm animals: Some campgrounds feature resident animals that campers enjoy. At Cobble Hill RV Campground, visitors mention "Goats and a horse also live here" and appreciate "getting fresh eggs from the check-in store each morning... And I mean... Fresh Eggs."

What you should know

Site leveling issues: Many campers report challenges with uneven sites in the region. "Our lot was on a hill side which made using our full hookups going up hill," noted one camper about Crown Cove RV Park, while another mentioned "we were on a 'hill' but since we were close to all the trees i didn't mind it."

Road noise: Campgrounds near major highways can be noisy. "Campground is right next to the interstate so you definitely could hear road traffic all night long," warns a visitor to Statesville RV Park I-77, adding it's a "Convenient stop for traveling but would not want to spend multiple days here."

Long-term vs short-term sites: Many RV parks in the Harrisburg area serve both travelers and long-term residents. "Small camp ground with plenty of space. Some amenities. Bass lake is small, but nice and the weather was beautiful so it was a nice setting as the evening feel," reports a visitor to Bass Lake, noting it works well "for a stop over."

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: When choosing a campground with children, check for dedicated facilities. At Lake Myers RV Resort, one parent shared: "The staff is wonderfully nice and helpful. We took our three boys (all under 5) for the weekend. There was not much at all for them to do other than play in the pool... If it was just adults going, or even older children maybe 7 and up it would be a great location."

Ask about organized activities: Statesville RV Park I-77 and other campgrounds sometimes offer special events for children. At Forest Lake, campers report activities like "an outdoor movie (with free popcorn), arts & crafts for the kids, candy bar bingo, and a DJ."

Consider cabin options: Several campgrounds offer cabin rentals as alternatives to RV camping. "We stayed here while visiting friends who lived in the Salisbury area and stayed in Cabin 1. The cabins are REALLY nice, I was very impressed," reports a visitor to Cobble Hill RV Campground.

Tips from RVers

Access challenges: Some rv campgrounds in Harrisburg, North Carolina have difficult navigation. "Big Rigs Beware. This is a decent family-friendly campground but is quite difficult to navigate the roads and sites if you have a larger rig," cautions a visitor about Lake Myers RV Resort.

Utility connections: Check specific hookup details before booking. "Full hookups (30 & 50 amp), WiFi and cable," notes a camper about Cobble Hill RV Campground, while many others mention varying electric options across different sites.

Reservation timing: Book well in advance for busy seasons at rv campgrounds around Harrisburg. "Met several campers who said they stay there all the time on their way to and from Florida. Nice stopping off point," suggests a regular visitor to Cobble Hill, indicating its popularity among seasonal travelers.
