    Statesville RV Park I-77

    Right off of Interstate

This KOA is RIGHT off of the interstate. If you are in midtravel and need a place to overnight this is a nice KOA for that. The camping cabins are cozy, we stayed in a single which has 1 dbl bed and twin sized bunk bed. Staff was very friendly. I wouldn't consider this a camping destination.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Fantastic quiet get away

We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as well were pretty clean for a camp ground, I was pleasantly surprised. The path to the bathrooms light up at night so you can find your way very easy in the dark. Camp ground itself was very clean and I often saw the staff working on cleaning it and interacting with the campers. The designated swimming area was like a piece of heaven. Small not to overly packed, very clean beach. We plan on coming pack to do tent camping with our dog, fantastic family or romantic couple retreat.

    Small clean campground

Stayed 1 night, sites are close to each other. Small cabins available, walk-in campsites and restrooms are clean and updated. Very nice trail along the lake perimeter and Championship Disc golf course.

    Spacious Skies Peach Haven

    Nice campground, lots of amenities.

Overall, this is a very nice, clean park conveniently located to the interstate I-85) and attractions in the area. It has all the amenities you would expect to find at a KOA such as a swimming pool, playground, dog park, miniature golf, store, clubhouse, and more (including goats). It is by far the nicest private campground in the area that we have stayed at.

This KOA has 127 sites offering varying degrees of services to accommodate RV's, tents, and those wanting to rent cabins. We chose a 50-amp full hook-up back-in site but were upgraded to a pull-thru so we could be in a sunny location to mitigate the chilly air. How nice of them! Our site (#79) was perfectly level as were most others (but not all). Water, electric, and cable hook-ups were well placed at the site and worked fine. We paid $37/night(with the KOA member discount). Nice, large grassy area for dogs to walk and sniff and there is a decent size dog park.  Roads and pads are hard packed gravel with grass in between sites. Some sites are set in a wooded area while some are out in the open with plenty of sun and satellite coverage. The park is big rig friendly and the roads are easily navigable. All sites have a picnic table and some had fire pits but ours did not. Cable is included and offered over 50 channels. Wifi worked well at our site.  The laundry was small with three washers and three dryers but very clean and had a decent book exchange. The bathroom and showers were super clean and looked like they were updated recently.

The campground is extremely clean and the owners/employees are super friendly. There is a short hiking trail (less than a mile) through the woods and plenty of green space in front of some of the pull-thrus. playground large swimming pool with large deck putt putt with lots of goat humor.

The only downside would be the closeness of sites but that is pretty much what you expect from private RV parks. Fortunately, we did not have neighbors right next to us which gave us more space. I'm usually not a KOA fan but have to say this one was great for our overnight stay and we would recommend it.

    Cane Creek Park

A Great Place for the Whole Family.

Located just outside historic Waxhaw NC, Cane Creek is part of the NC Soil Conservative Sites. They offer day passes,$4.00 per car where you can launch you kayak canoe or fishing boat. If you like Bass Fishing, they rank as one of the best spots around. They have swimming areas for both day users and one for campers. This really is a gem within Union Co NC. The campground is on the other side of the lake. They have camping for RV’s, Cabin Rentals and tent sites for either large groups or individuals. The hiking trail is beautiful and takes you around the whole lake. Watch for horses, as this is a great place for riders too.

    Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA

Great for trip to Charlotte NC

We came here to do some trailer maintenance and because it is very close to home. We were not expecting it to be a great camping experience, but we’re pleasantly surprised! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the campsites were clean, and the bath houses were newly updated and immaculate. The roads in the section we stayed in were a bit rough (a combination of asphalt and gravel), but perfectly fine for camping. Most of the sites have good shade, but unfortunately our site was in full sun. Our site had full hookups, and a picnic table that was pretty rickety. No fire ring. The sites are very close together, and most are back to back sharing a driveway. Personally we prefer a more secluded camping spot, but this KOA is perfect for an overnight on your way to another location, a trip to nearby Charlotte, or like us, utilizing the full hookups for some waterline maintenance.

    Cane Creek Park

    Great clean campground

We have stayed at Cane Creek 2x now and enjoy the park so much. Lake, hiking trails and nice wooded campsites with fire rings and close proximity to bath houses. Playground for kids, little store, friendly staff. Beach swimming area closed due to Covid but looks nice. Park on other side of lake has picnic shelters, more trails, frisbee golf and kayak rentals that will open after Covid. Only problem is that both times we visited there was a storm and power went out for hours. Can’t really do anything about that!

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Such an amazing campground

I camped here with a friend and our dogs. We were in campsite 14. It was very shaded and surrounded by woods. The tent pad was super spacious and made of gravel. There was also a picnic bench, fire pit, and a lantern pole. The campground also has beautiful little cabins. The bathouse was absolutely top notch and super clean. The park staff takes very good care of the area. Unfortunately there are some little beaches along the trails that have trash, mostly from fishing. The park offers some very nice hiking trails. This time I just did the Lakeshore trail and the dogs had a blast. We would camp here anytime again.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Cane Creek Park provides access to a lake with multiple fishing spots. Visitors can fish from the shore or bring small watercraft. "Beautiful place to camp, hike, and kayak! I load up my kayak once a month or so and paddle around the lake for hours," notes one camper.

Mini golf access: Free putt-putt is available at several cabin locations. One visitor at Cane Creek Park mentioned, "The mini golf is free and a blast," while another added that facilities include "trails, shelter areas, and bathrooms are always well taken care of."

Hiking trails: Lake Norman State Park Campground offers multiple moderate hiking trails throughout the grounds. A visitor commented, "Very clean and quite and very close to Charlotte. Nice, moderate hiking trails. Swimming and kayaking. You'll probably see deer but have never seen a bear."

Amusement park access: Cabin campers at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort can use the free shuttle service to the adjacent theme park. "The campground is part of Carowinds amusement park. Prices are rather expensive during the season, but reasonable off-season," notes one reviewer who stayed there while visiting Charlotte.

What campers like

Unique cabin options: Some parks offer specialized cabins beyond standard accommodations. "I stayed at Lake Norman State Park for 10 days. The campground is well kept and clean. The staff and the camp host were very courteous," reports one camper.

Clean facilities: Many visitors specifically mention bathroom cleanliness as a deciding factor. At Spacious Skies Peach Haven, one camper noted, "The bathroom and showers were super clean and looked like they were updated recently," while another added it was "the cleanest campground we've stayed at: laundry room, bathhouse, etc."

Quiet environment: Several cabin locations enforce quiet hours and maintain peaceful settings. "We stayed at Carowinds Camp Wilderness when the amusement park was closed so it was very quite and hardly anyone there," one visitor mentioned, while another noted, "They enforce the rules really well so quiet time is actually just that."

Family activities: Cabin camping areas near Belmont often include child-friendly amenities. Dan Nicholas Park provides numerous options as one camper described, "This place is the best places for families to camp. There is a beautiful zoo, gem mining, a train ride, amazing fishing, a beautiful playground, and a carousel."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Many cabin sites require advance planning. "Most campgrounds like Spacious Skies Peach Haven feature on-site stores with limited grocery items, though selection varies seasonally," explains one regular visitor to the area.

Variable cabin standards: Quality and amenities differ significantly between locations. At Dan Nicholas Park, a camper noted, "The campsites are nice and the facilities are fairly clean. We really enjoyed fishing and caught a couple of fish as well. The sites are pretty roomy too!"

Proximity to roads: Some cabin locations experience road noise. One visitor to Statesville RV Park I-77 explained, "The highway was close and the noise did make it hard to sleep. But when I go to pick up our camper I will stop there again."

Seasonal considerations: Facilities may operate differently throughout the year. "We were here in March so the pool was not open but looking forward to visiting again soon," mentioned one Spacious Skies Peach Haven visitor.

Transportation considerations: Some cabin locations offer convenience for family outings. "Carowinds Camp Wilderness has free bus rides to and from the park from open until close. This is a perfect place to stay because after a long day of rides you can come right back to your camper to relax instead of driving all the way home," explains one family.
