Webster Park's cabin accommodations are available from May through October, offering an accessible camping experience just 15 minutes from Rochester. The park's woodland setting provides a cool, shaded environment even during summer, with average temperatures ranging from 60-80°F during peak season.
What to do
Lakeside recreation: At Webster Park, visitors can access Lake Ontario within a short walk from campsites. "Very close too lake Ontario very short distance to city shopping restaurant etc everything at your fingertip," notes Jim Z. The park combines water access with forested trails for day activities.
Museum visits: Sampson State Park Campground offers educational opportunities beyond typical outdoor recreation. "It has a Naval museum with many authentic items from that era," explains Brian O. The military history adds a cultural dimension to camping trips, especially during inclement weather.
Cycling: The paved loops at Sampson State Park make it ideal for family biking. Amanda K. points out the practical advantage: "Paved loops - good for bikes and scooters." Many families bring children's bikes to navigate between amenities.
What campers like
Spacious sites: Lake Bluff RV Park receives consistent praise for its site layout. "We had a huge site near a little stream," mentions Keri. Site spacing allows for privacy while maintaining a community atmosphere.
Clean facilities: Webster Park maintains high standards for its amenities. "Bathrooms and showers were clean. Wasn't too far from a park along Ontario. Overall a great stay!" reports Joseph W. The central bathroom facilities feature hot showers and dishwashing stations.
Family activities: Canandaigua-Rochester KOA offers structured recreation for children. "We spent father's day weekend at the KOA. Our kids rented cabins and some used tents and others came for the day. The campground has so much to do between swimming, golf, bike and paddle boat rentals," shares Rich L.
What you should know
Seasonal considerations: Webster Park cabin rentals operate within a specific timeframe. Carl C. advises: "This is a nice little park. I've stayed four times in 2021, for as much as 2 weeks at a time. Cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi, and no camp store (but the town of Webster is nearby)."
Limited connectivity: Many cabin areas have spotty cell service. Bring physical maps and download entertainment before arrival, especially at more remote sites.
Reservation requirements: Junius Ponds cabins fill quickly during peak season. Jim C. recommends planning ahead: "Reservations recommended especially during summer weekends. Well priced $42 per night for full hookups." Most parks require booking 3-6 months in advance for summer weekends.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Choose sites near play areas for convenience with young children. Scott C. from Webster Park shares: "We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground. We like site 1 as well."
Kid-friendly loops: Select camping loops known for family atmosphere. "The campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone," continues Scott C., highlighting the independence children can safely enjoy.
Swimming options: Stay Bristol Woodlands provides water recreation for families. "Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn't get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover," mentions Justine I.
Tips from RVers
Hookup locations: At Sampson State Park, electrical connections require planning. Amanda K. warns: "Electric service boxes are shared in-between sites. This could pose an issue if your power cord is not long enough."
Water access: Many parks have limited water fill stations. "There is only one source for water fill up. This could end up being a very very long wait if you arrive at the same time as other campers," continues Amanda K. about Sampson State Park.
Leveling challenges: Some sites require significant adjustment. Donna C. notes about Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort: "Almost all of the sites are not even close to level. Not a big issue with a fifth wheel but a real hassle with a motorcoach. We changed sites three times and finally resigned ourselves to not being leveled."
