    Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday

    was great, slipping some.

I have done tent, cabin and t.v. camping here. a lot of family activity in my favorite place. the outdoor choices are plenty, but the campground is slipping trying to be too much and seems to let the infrastructure slip. it is owned by corporate KOA and it shows that the making money is more important than making it a home away from home that I use to love.. still will come back

    Great Campground, Full Amenities

Spent 3 days, 2 nights here from a Wednesday-Friday. Very large and busy campground, close to Lake Placid and other cool activities to take in. Pros- hot showers, convenient laundromat, you are guided to your site by staff on golf carts. Cons- tent sites aren’t given much privacy, on the days we stayed we were put very close to the main building when we requested a spot near the back away from the busy area, kids allowed to run and yelling and screaming WELL after quiet hours.

    North Beach Campground

    Nice location

Excellent location due to proximity to north beach that offers beautiful views of the Adirondacks across Lake Champlain. The campground is adjacent to paved Burlington bike / walking trail with easy access to the trail and beach. The only sites with electric are RV sites that are packed in more than we prefer. Bath rooms are ok, but showers need deep cleaning or replacement. Bath house is vented but not heated so it’s rather cold in October. Hot water is just warm.

    Brown Tract Pond Campground

I fell in love with this place

As I sat having by my coffee, watching steam rise from the pond, I listened to the distant calls of Loons.

I’d describe this campground as a hidden gem, but it’s not for everyone. To get here you leave the paved road and take a gravel road a little ways. On our way we spotted a group of Turkeys wandering about. This campground is for the adventurous. No electric or water hook ups (for RVs) and no shower facilities, but there are restrooms.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Helped me pick out a site and made sure I was good once I set up. Bring or rent a Canoe and you can travel out to an island in the middle of the pond from which families jump from a large rock into the lake.

As the sun sets and the stars come out, you’ll look up and suddenly realize just how small you are as you stare at the heavens and see the Milky Way.

Nothing but peace and quiet. When it’s quiet hours, the only thing you here is nature and the occasional crackle of someone’s fire.

Would I go here again? Brown Tract is one of those places that after you go once, you find yourself going again and again. Our tripped was booked as soon as we could.

    Scaroon Manor Campground

    Excellent views on the lake

We stayed in the rustic campground right down the road from the main campground. We parked in a lot and walked about 5 minutes to the campgrounds on the lake. They were beautiful and well kept, even had a small pile of fire wood for us.

The site had a relatively nice outhouse, a picnic table, a fire pit and a grate for grilling. It was right on the lake. There were a ton of other people in the main campground but only one other camper in the rustic area. $25 a night to camp.

There was some noise from the highway but not too bad. Coyotes were howling all night and definitely heard some around our campground.

    Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday

    Amazing

This is a Class A 5⭐️KOA Campsite! We arrived late and Jox & his sweet wife helped us manuever our RV into our pull through site B05. We were super close to the office, store, snacks, laundry & activities. Our site was a “ dirt” site that had a picnic table and fire pit with full hook ups. This campsite has concierge service that will help you out with any of your wants/needs. Great site in nature’s finest.

    Draper’s Acres

    Campground with options

Great campground with secluded sites most with woods behind each site, especially the tent area. The RV and tent camping is well separated and there are different kinds of RV space available as well. The showers are a bit gross, but free. The cabins look nice but a little close together. They don’t pick up the phone right away so call a few times to get ahold of someone. We had water/electric for a trailer at $35 a night in perfect location between Keene Valley and Lake Placid. Sites were clean and the fire pits were beautiful! We camped in site 45 and were pleasantly left alone.

    Brown Tract Pond Campground

Just what we needed. Rustic peace.

Beautiful, peaceful large pond/small lake. Loons. Ducks and ducklings. Beaver. Canoes($20/day) and kayak rentals. Firewood for sale ($9?) or gather downed wood. Fishing. Large sandy Adirondack beach and day use area. Pet friendly. Very friendly staff. Clean, stocked bathrooms/toilet with sink and soap. Well located water spigots. Nearby trails. Dump station. Boat launch (no motorboats allowed).

No hookups. No onsite showers (can use another Golden Beach Campground showers a few miles away.) No cell or internet. Maybe wifi near entrance?

Easiest access is from Raquette Lake. From the west you will drive over 5 miles on a dirt road (slow going if towing).

    Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday

    Amazing Sites and Customer Service

    This is an amazing campground!

The North Pole Resort is a top tiered campground that knows exactly how a campground should be operated, from customer service to site arrangement and up keep! We had the privilege of staying in the 100 Acres section of the campground for a few nights in July and loved everything about our stay. The campground consists of two sections; the Resort section and the 100 Acre woods section (just 50 yards down the road). The resort section is located near the office and is a nice, more open, but spacious RV camping area. The 100-acre section is a wooded campground beautifully arranged and maintained.

We stayed in the 100 Acres area and were very impressed with the layout of the sites, which were staggered/angled to put the most space between each site. We felt very secluded even though there were other sites around us. Our site was level, spotlessly clean and manicured, and had good water pressure and hookups. The combination restrooms/bathrooms were clean and conveyed a sense of regular maintenance being provided to them.

Customer service is top notch and the staff prides themselves on welcoming guests as family. We overheard a current employee talking to a new employee stating that even if the campsite wasn’t used prior to a new guest arriving, they always do a thorough check of the site to ensure everything is perfect! This impressed us and aligned with the overall sense of pride shown at NP campground.  The camp store is probably one of the best stocked stores we have visited. Additionally, they had growler fills from 3 craft beers of tap right in the camp store!!

We loved our stay at North Pole Resorts, which raised the bar pretty high for other campgrounds to live up to!

Guide to Lake Clear

Campsites near Lake Clear, New York range from primitive tent platforms to full-hookup RV sites amid the Adirondack region's mixed forest landscape. The area sits at approximately 1,600 feet elevation, experiencing cool summer nights that typically drop into the 50s even during July and August. Most campgrounds operate from late May through early October, with limited winter options for cold-weather adventurers.

What to do

Paddle interconnected waterways: Rollins Pond Campground offers kayak and canoe access to an extensive network of lakes. "Almost all the sites are lakefront. Great kayak and canoe access to a whole network of lakes in the St. Regis/Saranac area," notes Jeffrey B., who appreciated the secluded atmosphere.

Hike Whiteface Mountain: Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday provides direct trail access. "Behind the 100-Acre section are trails that lead to Whiteface Mountain so you don't have to get in the car to start a hike," explains Nancy W., who enjoyed taking her dog on the trails.

Fish local ponds: Buck Pond Campground offers fishing opportunities in a peaceful setting. "Very peaceful place to go canoeing," shares Nancy P., who returns regularly for the tranquil fishing environment.

What campers like

Private waterfront access: Many sites at Meacham Lake Campground offer direct water access. "We camped on site 188 for 3 nights and really enjoyed having our own private 'beach,'" reports The Other Kim K., though they note the ground can be soggy in some spots.

Quiet camping atmosphere: Wilderness Campground at Heart Lake maintains a peaceful environment even during busy periods. "Despite rather high density of sites they are well designed and the campground is quiet and dark at night for good rest!" explains Tigan W., who appreciated the enforced retreat atmosphere.

Hot showers after adventures: Draper's Acres provides free hot showers, a rarity in the region. "Both bath houses were adequate, even containing shampoo and body wash," notes Brett N., who found the amenities more than sufficient for post-hiking cleanup.

What you should know

Weather variability: Early season camping requires extra preparation. "I would caution going prior to June unless you are prepared for varying weather. I have been up there pitching the tent in a t-shirt one day only to need to throw on a jacket the next day due to rain and even snow," advises Alex G. about Rollins Pond.

Site selection matters: AuSable Chasm Campground offers diverse site types. "Lots of ant hills throughout the campground so be cautious where you set up a tent," warns Lee D., who recommends careful site selection.

Water conditions: Some glamping sites in Lake Clear have soggy ground. "The campground had put down sheets of plywood to help, but still the ground was so soggy that the plywood had eventually 'soaked away,'" reports a visitor at Meacham Lake Campground about site 188.

Tips for camping with families

Look for recreation amenities: Button Bay State Park Campground offers family-friendly facilities. "This is a good campground for families that are not too rowdy. There is a pool for swimming, paved roads are good for bikes & scooters, pavilion for activities, lake for swimming & fishing and hiking trails," recommends Lacy C.

Choose sites with exploration options: Wilderness Campground has structured activities for kids. "I was absolutely impressed with the restrooms, dishwashing station, and beach area," notes Tigan W., who appreciated the family-friendly setup.

Prepare for limited connectivity: Most glamping in Lake Clear, New York operates without reliable cell service. "There is no cell or internet there," reports Debbie T. about Meacham Lake Campground, suggesting families plan offline activities.

Tips from RVers

Check road conditions: Access roads to wilderness areas can be challenging. "Lots of tree limbs that needed to be trimmed. Maneuvering through the park was pretty tight for us and we had to take it really slow," notes Nancy W. about Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA.

Consider site placement: Tent areas and RV sections are often separate. "This campground has good tent sites that are separate from RV area and rental cabins," explains Eric M. about Draper's Acres, which offers dedicated spaces for different camping styles.

Reserve hookup sites early: Full-service RV sites are limited and book quickly. "We had a full hookup, pull through site surrounded by trees," shares Jennifer O., noting that these premium spots at Draper's Acres go fast during peak season.
