    Old Forge Camping Resort

    Old Forge Camping Resort, NY

My family and I have been visiting Old Forge Camping Resort for 20+ years. This is one of the most family friendly resorts and a perfect weekend getaway for those living in other parts of New York State. The visitors/welcome center has everything you need, including firewood, sweatshirts and homemade breakfast sandwiches. There is endless RV camping, tent camping, cabins and cottages available. Make sure you book far enough in advance. We typically book 1 year prior for the cottages.

The bathrooms and grounds are well maintained and accessible from wherever you are in the park. There are hiking, biking and running trails galore. A volleyball court, playground and even a lake to fish or rent paddle boards. There is a bus from the campground that takes you to enchanted forest safari, which is a great way to avoid parking. Would recommend 100%

    Adirondack Mennonite Camping Associates Inc

Sleepaway camp, family camp, day use

Beaver Camp (or, officially Adirondack Mennonite Camping Assoc.), is a classic summer youth sleep-away camp on Beaver Lake. Sleeping in cabins with bunk beds, swimming, canoes, and a high ropes course, gathering around the campfire to end the day- Beaver Camp has it all.

Weekend and week long programming for youth and families, or site rental of cabins and platform tents is available, as well as day use access to the beach and high ropes course.

This camp is a great way to access a beautiful area in a way customized for your family!

Shady Pines Camp at CBG Farm - CLOSED

    Rustic and beautiful

After meeting up with the owner we went down to the parking area. A dirt trail and park on the side in the grass. You have to walk in about 2 minutes on a trail. The owner has a golf cart with a small wagon and transported our stuff to the campsite and back when we left…he was really nice and very helpful.the trail opened to open grassy areas with surrounding trees where we pitched our tent…a small table and fire ring w grate provided. Also firewood.you get water back up at the barn but the owner was nice and brought us a 5 gal. Jug. Pond stocked with fish…catch and release. We caught some nice bass and bullhead…kids had a blast. Past the pond is the cabin with sitting spots and an open cement fire stove and oven also a fire pit. Theres an outhouse behind the cabin w a seat over a bucket w chemicals…papertowels tp hand sanitizer and disenfectant wipes nicely provided. We did have cellphone signals. Overall a really nice spot to relax and commune w nature.

    Green Lakes State Park Campground

Green Lakes is a model state park

This is a great example of what a state park should be. It not only preserves a place of unique biological diversity and geologic interest, it is also well set up and well maintained to maximize low impact outdoor recreation and environmental education. A new state of the art regional environmental education center is being built now that will open in spring, as well as new handicapped access kayaking docks that complement Accessible trails and campsites throughout the park. This is a great destination for families, handicapped campers, and natural history enthusiasts. There are several campgrounds, one is large and open and meant for large RVs, others are drive-in forested tent sites or trailer sites with hookups, and several walkin sites. There is also a colony of rustic camper cabins. The campgrounds have brand new restroom facilities and playgrounds, and the main lake has a new beach house. The lake is a fascinating meromictic lake with clear calcium-rich waters that are not only pristine and beautiful to look at, but also great for swimming and snorkeling as the waters are crystal clear and very deep. There are hiking trails, paved bike trails, a nature preserve for bird watching at Round Lake, a golf course, and great kayaking or canoeing. It is also located right next door to the Erie Canal State Park for those who want to hike or bike the historic Erie Canal. Though you might expect a park like this to be in a remote location, it is actually just a short distance east of the suburbs of the Syracuse metro area, so it is an easy park to get to, plus staying there also provides easy access to stores for supplies, or access to local cultural activities or restaurants for those who want that. One of my favorite state parks in New York!

Guide to Camden

Cabin accommodations near Camden, New York provide sheltered camping options at various campgrounds throughout Oneida County. Set in the glacial landscape of central New York at approximately 500 feet elevation, the area experiences distinct seasonal changes with warm summers and cold winters. Most cabin facilities remain open from late April through mid-October with some properties offering year-round availability.

What to do

Lakeside activities: Green Lakes State Park Campground offers unique water experiences on its glacier-formed lakes. "The lake is beautiful with green/blue hue in which the park gets its name. The beach can get busy during the summer however it is a great place to swim, camp, boat (there are rentals) and enjoy yourself," notes a visitor who recommends the 2-mile hike around the lake.

Fishing opportunities: Stoneys Pineville Campground provides access to salmon fishing. "We have been out three is consecutively for salmon fishing and I have had a great time what a great place to stay," reports one angler. The campground sits directly on a river known for large salmon runs in season.

Organized family events: Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort at Mexico schedules regular activities for children. A camper explains, "So many activities for the kids, a great pool, mini-golf, parades, just non stop action to keep them going and tire them out!" The resort maintains a full calendar of events from April through October.

What campers like

Beach access: Green Lakes State Park Campground receives praise for its swimming facilities. A reviewer shares, "Swimming is available at the large beach. You can rent a kayak and enjoy the beautiful lake. There are miles of trails to explore." The park maintains lifeguarded swimming areas during summer months.

Clean facilities: Campers appreciate well-maintained bathrooms at several campgrounds. At Yogi Bears Jellystone, a visitor noted, "Bathrooms are well spaced and plentiful, and well maintained. The showers are actual showers, and are taller than I am (which is nice!)." Most cabin areas provide access to bathroom buildings within walking distance.

Winter options: Bass Lake Resort stands out for year-round cabin availability. "Clean friendly just a great place to camp," comments one visitor. Unlike most seasonal operations in the area, Bass Lake maintains winter cabin rentals with full hookups.

What you should know

Site privacy considerations: Many campgrounds feature cabins in close proximity to other campsites. At Verona Beach State Park Campground, a camper observes, "The campground is beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Oneida, very close to a swimming beach complete with lifeguards and a brand new snack bar. Unless you score a campsite in the row up against the water, forget privacy."

Bathroom access varies: Facilities differ significantly between campgrounds. A visitor at Oneida Shores County Park explains, "You need a code to use the bathroom and there is only 1. Showers could be closer and seem more accommodating to day users." At some locations, shower buildings may require a walk from cabin areas.

Limited cabin availability: Reservations book quickly, especially for waterfront cabins. Campers recommend booking 3-6 months in advance for summer weekends. Most cabin rentals require minimum 2-night stays with higher rates on weekends and holidays.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for children: Whispering Woods Campground provides family-friendly environments. "We camped there a few times, very people friendly place!" shares one regular visitor. The campground operates from April 28 to October 15 with cabin options that welcome pets.

Pack extra linens: Most cabin camping near Camden requires bringing your own bedding supplies. Sleeping arrangements typically include mattresses without linens, requiring campers to bring sheets, blankets and pillows, along with towels for showering and swimming.

Consider seasonal events: Many campgrounds host themed weekends throughout the season. Yogi Bears Jellystone Park offers "Organized the Halloween activities nicely. Yogi and the characters were very involved," according to a family who visited during fall festivities.

Tips from RVers

Utility connections: Most camping cabins near Camden provide varying levels of utility hookups. At Bass Lake Resort, a visitor notes the campground has "water and electric only. Bathroom at campground. And Nice bathhouse over near beach with pass entry for campers only for showers."

Site surfaces: Ground conditions can affect comfort levels at cabin sites. A camper at Jellystone Park observed, "The sites were muddy, especially when it had recently rained. Luckily we came after it rained and it had dried out some." Consider bringing outdoor mats to place outside cabin entrances.

Proximity to neighbors: Site spacing affects privacy between cabins and RVs. At Ta-Ga-Soke Campgrounds, a visitor reported, "Site however was very close to other sites and not very private." RVers recommend requesting end sites or locations near woods when possible for added separation from neighbors.
