Campgrounds near Sun Valley, Nevada cater to diverse camping needs with elevations ranging from 4,500 to 5,500 feet. The area experiences hot, dry summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and cool evenings dropping into the 50s. While the existing RV parks offer full hookups, several dispersed camping options provide alternatives for those seeking more rustic experiences without reservation requirements.
What to do
Trail hiking from basecamp: Davis Creek Regional Park offers hiking trails directly from campsites, with routes ranging from easy to difficult. "I love the variety. There are different levels of hikes from easy to more difficult. There are lots of trees with excellent shade and you can't beat the views of Washoe Valley when you get to the top," shares Lindsay B. from Davis Creek Regional Park.
Casino entertainment: Several campgrounds provide shuttle service to nearby gaming establishments. "We appreciated the designated dog area filled with sandy gravel. The park itself is not anything special to look at. There isn't much privacy or vegetation to speak of. It is a bit of a walk to get to the resort," notes Darcy K., who stayed at Grand Sierra Resort RV Park.
Nearby urban amenities: Reno offers shopping and dining options within 20 minutes of most campgrounds. "Very clean and nice RV park. Pool, hot tub, game room and nice small shop. Sites have fake grass but it looks nice. Pads and streets are paved. Full hook ups. Picnic tables at each site," explains Loretta H. about Sparks Marina RV Park.
What campers like
Clean, well-maintained facilities: Many Sun Valley area campgrounds receive praise for cleanliness standards. "Great place to stay or park," states Love W. about Shamrock RV Park, adding "Great place and although there are a lot of long term campers none of the campers are run down or filled with junk. Park is kept very clean and the laundry and restroom are spotless."
Quiet camping environment: Despite proximity to urban areas, several campgrounds offer peaceful settings. "We only stayed for a single night, but have no complaints. The staff were really friendly for bookings and check in. The park was nice and well maintained. We would definitely stay again if we are passing through Reno," writes Jenny W. about Sparks Marina RV Park.
Convenient locations: Campgrounds situated near highways provide easy access for travelers. "We stayed here for one night on our way south from Likely CA. Our space was very clean as was the rest of the RV park. Nice laundry room. Full Hookups. Nice helpful staff," reports Kevin H. about Bordertown Casino RV Resort.
What you should know
Age restrictions on RVs: Some parks enforce vehicle age policies without advance notice. "There is NO mention of an age restriction on their website. I specifically searched it before I made the reservation. But they WILL take the reservation online, take your money, then call to check the age of your rig," warns Leah T. about Sparks Marina RV Park.
Limited tent camping options: Despite listings suggesting otherwise, tent accommodations may be unavailable. "They advertise as having sites for tent camping as well as dispersed camping. This is inaccurate and should be changed," advises Steven S. about Sparks Marina RV Park.
