Two Rivers State Recreation Area accommodates pets throughout multiple campgrounds, including Riverside, Goldenrod, Fawn Meadows, Cottonwood, and Oak Grove. Each campsite provides picnic tables, fire rings, and electric hookups alongside pet-friendly policies. Tent camping spots along the river allow campers to bring their dogs while enjoying waterfront views. The campgrounds feature clean shower facilities and modern restrooms accessible to visitors with pets. Eugene T. Mahoney State Park Campground and West Omaha KOA Holiday also welcome pets with similar amenities plus cabin accommodations where dogs can stay with their owners. RV campers find numerous pet-friendly sites with full hookups at these established campgrounds. Riverside campground specifically offers tent sites directly along the Platte River where campers can enjoy riverside camping with their dogs. Park patrol strictly enforces quiet hours, particularly important for pet owners whose dogs might bark.

The paved roads throughout Two Rivers provide excellent walking paths for exercising dogs, with many campers mentioning the convenience for morning and evening pet walks. Several fishing lakes surround the campgrounds, though swimming with pets is restricted to designated areas away from the human swimming beach. During summer months, the campgrounds typically reach capacity, especially on weekends, so reservations are recommended for pet owners. When water levels are low in the Platte River, dogs can access beaches and shallow water areas for cooling off. Wildlife including deer, turkey and various birds frequent the park, requiring dogs to remain leashed at all times for safety. Memphis Lake State Recreation Area and Lake Wanahoo provide additional pet-friendly alternatives with similar amenities and water access, both maintaining year-round operations for campers with pets.

Branched Oak Lake State Rec Area

      Great getaway weekend

      Platte River State Park Campground

      Pleasant Surprise!

We were passing through Nebraska and opted to stay the night here. The campground is new and will be even nicer when the trees are big enough to provide shade. We only stayed one night but enjoyed the walk to the small waterfall in the park. There is a large dog park, clean restrooms and nice trails for walking.

      Camp A Way Campground

      Nice park

Stayed here for a week over 4th of July, 2020 amid COVID19 restrictions. Lots of shade, though some sites are full sun. Great dog park: large, secure and shaded. Play ground, basketball, pool, family activities. Very clean restrooms. Good camp store with decent prices. Easy access to Omaha.

      Camp A Way Campground

      Great Location... Very Crowded!

This was a great location to explore different areas but it is a very crowded location. Some people like that and visiting with everyone.  That is not for me.  The campground is well maintained, the staff is friendly and our dogs enjoyed the dog park on the property.

      Camp A Way Campground

      Awesome

The park is well kept, the sites have plenty of space to them so you don’t feel like you’re on top of someone else’s camper. There’s playgrounds and a pool, a dog park, basketball court and disc golf. The nicest park we’ve stayed at for sure.

Perfect spot to explore Omaha and the Great Plains

Platte River State Park is a beautiful, full service park with plenty of amenities. There are playgrounds and a splash pad for the kids, canoe rentals, and plenty of trails to hike or bike. Sites are concrete pads with full hookups and include a fire ring and picnic table. The campground also has a bathroom and dog park. 5 bars of AT&T @ 120Mbps!

      Louisville State Recreation Area Campground

      Very relaxing

I stayed at site 239 (tent) which seems to be the least busy area. There are nice docks for fishing and boating. A nice closed off area for swimming, but not area allows pets to swim. Very polite employees. Showers are kinda expensive and expect to hear the tracks right behind the camping area. I think a pet/person swim area would be nice but other than that it was a good stay.

      Camp A Way Campground

      Nice place with one flaw

This is our first camping trip in a tent. We love the energy here. You can tell the owners keep everything impeccable. The bathrooms were super clean and have locks with code to keep them safe. The shower head could use replacing, but it was a hot shower, so we appreciate it. This place has tons for kids to do. There is a hand-built playground, basketball court, slip n slide, dog park, bounce stuff for kids. We booked hoping we could use the spa, only to find out when we got here, no kids under 5 can use it. We have a 3 year old, so we had to pass. The trees are really pretty and their are cute squirrels running around. Its pretty quiet at night from other campers HOWEVER the highway is so close you can see the cars going by. Its extremely loud and constant highway sounds. If you are in a camper or RV, it probably doesn't make much difference, but in a tent, it took away a bit of the magic of camping for us. Obviously this is nothing the owners can change.

All in all 4 out of 5 because it was a beautiful and well kept campground.

    Guide to Valley

Nebraska campgrounds near Valley offer varied pet-friendly camping experiences at elevations ranging from 1,100 to 1,200 feet. The Platte River flows through the area, creating multiple fishing lakes and outdoor recreation opportunities. Seasonal water levels impact camping, with lower levels in late summer exposing more beach areas.

    What to do

Hiking and biking trails: Lake Wanahoo State Recreation Area features a gravel trail encircling the entire lake for a three-mile loop that continues into the town of Wahoo. "There is a gravel trail that goes all the way around the lake, which provides about a three mile loop. The trail also leads down into the town of Wahoo," notes a visitor at Lake Wanahoo State Recreation Area.

Kayaking on calm waters: The no-wake zone at Memphis Lake makes it perfect for paddling. "This lake has great fishing and has peace, and quiet. The lake is a no wake zone, so kayaks, and canoes are great," reports a camper at Memphis Lake State Rec Area.

Play areas for children: Multiple campgrounds feature playground equipment for younger campers. At West Omaha KOA Holiday, families appreciate the accessible recreation: "Everywhere you turn there was something to do. Good fun," one visitor mentions.

    What campers like

Riverside camping: Sites along the Platte River are highly sought after for their views and access. A visitor to Riverside Campground — Two Rivers SRA shared, "Our favorite campground is Riverside for tent camping. There are spots where you can tent camp right by the river."

Accessible fishing: Multiple lakes and river access points create varied fishing opportunities. At Cottonwood — Two Rivers SRA, campers appreciate the location: "Two rivers is my favorite Nebraska hidden gem! The state Rec Park is by both the Elkhorn and Platte rivers, thus it's name, Two Rivers."

Clean facilities: Campgrounds maintain their shower houses and restrooms regularly. At West Omaha KOA Holiday, one visitor noted, "The campgrounds were very clean, sites well maintained bathroom and showers were clean as well."

    What you should know

Permits and fees: Different recreation areas require specific permits. For Lake Wanahoo, a camper explains, "A special permit is required to camp there. That is a bit of a bummer because you used to not need that."

Reservation requirements: Popular sites fill quickly, especially during summer weekends. At Eugene T. Mahoney State Park Campground, a visitor warns, "This place has it all....but books up months in advance and the crowds can get a bit annoying!"

Weather considerations: Storms can impact camping experiences. "There was a major storm that rolled though and upon arriving I asked about the weather, which I was watching closely at the radar," reports a West Omaha KOA Holiday camper who found shelter in bathrooms during severe weather.

    Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Multiple swimming and wading options exist depending on the campground. At Eugene T. Mahoney State Park Campground, families appreciate "many activities for kids including paddleboating, a wave pool, horse riding, ziplining, and playgrounds."

Kid-friendly amenities: Goldenrod Campground — Two Rivers SRA offers beach access for children. "Goldenrod is one of 6 campgrounds at Twin Rivers State Park. Half of this campground has electric and half has none. It is right next to lake 4 with some beach access."

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some sites. A Eugene T. Mahoney visitor noted, "This campground is crowded with significant interstate noise. However there are many activities for kids."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose carefully based on your RV size and needs. One camper at West Omaha KOA Holiday cautioned, "We were given an inappropriate size space for the rig we stated, super narrow and we stuck over the road by 2 feet."

Hookup locations: Be aware of utility placement at Walnut Creek Lake & Recreation Area: "The potable water is spread out across the campground but I only had to make a few trips with my 6gal jugs during my 2 week stay. Dump station at the entrance is really close to sites 43-45 since the campground is a large loop."

Road access: Some campgrounds have challenging entrance/exit points. A West Omaha KOA visitor explained, "The entrance/exit is difficult and it looks like it's not their fault as they have been trying to get permits to fix it but the NE transportation is not being cooperative."
