Best RV Parks & Resorts near Philipsburg, MT

Philipsburg RV Park offers four sites with electric, thirty and fifty-amp hookups, and water connections for travelers visiting this Montana mining town. The Inn at Philipsburg RV Park, located at 915 W. Broadway, provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service and operates from April through November. "Very full park with mostly long-term guests on gravel pads, no grass. Spots very close together but each site had a picnic table," noted one visitor about the area's RV accommodations. Fairmont RV Resort, situated about 30 miles from Philipsburg near Anaconda, features big-rig friendly pull-through sites with full hookups including sewer, water, and 50-amp electrical service, operating from mid-April through mid-October.

Throughout the region, RV parks maintain varying seasonal schedules, with most closing by late fall. Cell service can be inconsistent in mountain locations, though parks closer to towns typically offer better connectivity. Dump stations are available at most established RV parks including Philipsburg RV and Fairmont RV Resort. During peak summer months, particularly July and August, advance reservations are strongly recommended as limited availability can make finding same-day accommodations difficult. Pets are generally welcome at area RV parks, though some maintain restrictions. According to one RVer, "Easy access from interstate and RV-friendly fuel stations. Located on a hill with well-maintained gravel roads and pull-throughs 30/50 Amp and full hookups."

    Black Rabbit RV

    Compact but Quiet Spot

Very full park with mostly long- term guests on gravel pads, no grass. Spots very close together but each site had a picnic table- no grills. Visitors friendly but staff were marginal. Small laundry room with old machines. Convenient location but check- in early during peak season.

The Inn at Philipsburg RV Park

    In town, as advertised

Had a van battery issue so needed to plug in for the cold night. Is as advertised, not for typical bookdockers. Owner is nice and accommodating. Maybe 12 sites with some long term renters - it appeared. All hook ups available up to 50amp. Not quite close enough to down town to walk (in winter). Philipsburg is an awesome small Montana town that’s worth a stop.

2 Bar Lazy H RV Campground

    Nothing special but reliable

Easy access from interstate and Rv friendly fuel stations. Located on a hill with well maintained gravel roads and pull throughs 30/50 Amp and full hookups. Wifi fast but weak, no laundry (yet), no cable and the OTA TV is crappie. Open skies for satellite TV, 2 miles from downtown. We didn't use the bathrooms or showers but they are available. Lots of spaces designated for tent campers.

    Trixi’s Antler Saloon (Harvest Host)

Great location for 1 night stay through Harvest Hosts

This was a Harvest Host that we booked for 1 night. It is in the gravel parking lot of the saloon. They have two 50/30 amp electrical boxes and one Tesla charger. With HH it’s free (besides spending money at the saloon) or $25 to use the electric.

It’s a very large lot with plenty of room for our 33 foot fifth wheel. The staff was super pleasant and they served good bar food. There were local beers on tap along with ciders and liquor bar. There is a nice, new patio and great 360 review of the surrounding mountains.

At night the road traffic was alittle loud and there was no cell service, though the saloon has Wi-Fi.

Be sure to fill fresh water tanks before stopping there. Couldn’t find a fresh water hose. No dump available.

Great stopover with no other convenient campsites along this route.

    Chief Looking Glass Campground

    Solid Place To Stay

I rolled in mid-afternoon and was able to find a great spot to camp for a couple of days.  The sites were well dispersed and clean with picnic tables and fire pits available.

AT&T phone service was available and at good speeds.  I chose to stay the extra day and was able to work remotely from the campground with my hotspot.

$18/night for out of state travelers with no hookups was a bit steep.

Good site and will be back!

    Charles Waters Campground

    Quiet camping in the Bitterroots.

Nice little campground in the Bitterroot Valley. It seemed that there were as many dogs as people in the campground. Sites varied in size and shape and shade. I like the sites on the far side of the loop as they are closer to the creek and away from the dusty road. Water at the spigots was good, but I was a bit concerned that they were placed so close to the vault toilets. There are some pull through sites as well as back in, but since it’s first come, it’s luck of the draw in what you get. I got there around 2 on a Sunday and had 3 sites to pick from. All of the sites were full by 4pm. There are some nice hiking and horseback riding trails across the road, and there is a forest road that goes all the way to the top of the mountains with picnic tables to watch the sunset or sunrise (when the smoke doesn’t cloud the view).

    Divide Bridge Campground

    Great Forest Service Campground

Clean vault toilets. Friendly Hosts on sight. Grounds well maintained. WATER AVAILABLE. Came in dry and filled up with water. Lower campground has several sites on water. Upper is more rustic with larger lots. (We have a 40 foot fifth wheel) Lovely hike to the top of the mountain over looks the park and the Big Hole River. Boat ramp in the campground and also one at the main entrance (fun for dogs ) Only 10.00/night. 4 stars because the mosquitoes were INSANE! Apparently only in July and August.

    Butte KOA

    Easy on/off the interstate

This was our first stop after leaving Yellowstone.  Drove up to Butte because my husband wanted to go to a local exhibition that was happening that weekend and see Our Lady of the Rockies.  I didn't really walk around the campground, but it seemed like a smaller KOA.  It is easy to find right off the interstate.  I thought perhaps the highway noise would be an issue, but it was not.  As we were a week into our 2 week trip, I used our down time here to do some laundry.  The laundry room was in back of the store/main office where you register when you arrive.  I believe it was open 24 hours.  To my delight, you could also order pizza in the store.  I think they could have brought it to our site, but I couldn't remember the site number when I ordered so I just went back in about 30 min to get my order.  It was very simple, you only had two options--pepperoni or cheese, but the pizza was hot and tasted decent.  Not at all what I expected.  We did partake of the pool, which my toddler thought was fantastic and there was a small older playground next to the pool.  This KOA is right next to the Butte Visitor's Information Bureau and some nice looking walking trails.  We were in a site with full hook-ups, gravel pad with concrete patio, grill, firepit, picnic table and two rocking chairs.  I would have loved to spend some time in the rocking chairs had we not had some wonderful thunderstorms.  Had great cell service with Verizon as this campground is pretty much smack dab in the middle of Butte.

Bernie & Sharons Riverfront RV Park

    Nice campground

I called 30 minutes before our arrival for a tent camping spot and the host was easily able to accommodate us. Two men met us in a golf cart and drive us to our nice grassy site. The campground had coin showers with hot water and a family friendly rec room.

Guide to Philipsburg

RV campers traveling through western Montana find several camping options in and around Philipsburg at elevations ranging from 4,500 to 6,000 feet. The region experiences warm summer days with cool nights, where temperatures can dip below 40°F even in July and August. Most campgrounds operate seasonally, with the majority closing between mid-October and mid-April due to snow conditions.

What to do

Visit Garnet Ghost Town: Located about 30 miles northeast of Philipsburg, this preserved mining town offers a glimpse into Montana's mining history. "We had a cozy campfire thanks to their generosity in providing a fire ring and even a couple of logs to get us started," noted a visitor at Bernie & Sharons Riverfront RV Park, which serves as a good base for exploring nearby attractions.

Relax at hot springs: The thermal pools near Anaconda provide year-round soaking opportunities. A camper at Fairmont RV Resort mentioned, "Within walking distance of the hot springs resort. Was pouring rain when we visited but had full hookups."

Explore local hiking trails: The Clark Fork River corridor offers riverside walks with mountain views. "Nice trail walk to the creek," commented a guest at Boulder Creek Lodge, where travelers can access nearby outdoor recreation.

What campers like

Family-friendly amenities: Game rooms and recreational facilities rank high with campers. "After we ate, we went down stairs to the game room and played pool, table soccer and checkers for about 4 hours," shared a visitor at Boulder Creek Lodge, noting it was their "family favorite" during a month-long trip.

Riverfront access: Campsites along waterways provide fishing and wading opportunities. A reviewer at Bearmouth RV Park appreciated "a big field next to the river that was great for kids to run around in," adding that the location along the Clark Fork River was "gorgeous & convenient."

Quiet locations: Despite highway proximity, many campgrounds maintain peaceful atmospheres. "This is a family owned RV park in Garrison, MT. Helpful hosts. Kid friendly. Gameroom. Laundry. If you want to relax, this is a great stop. Spacious spots, some mountain views," noted a camper at Bernie & Sharons Riverfront RV Park.

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most RV sites near Philipsburg, Montana close during winter months. Fairmont RV Resort operates "from April 15 to October 15," while The Inn at Philipsburg RV Park runs "Apr to Nov," according to their listings.

Varying hookup availability: Full-service sites aren't universal. At Indian Creek RV Campground, a camper noted, "Sites were pretty level and we had a nice grass area around our picnic table. The snow capped mountains were a nice touch."

Highway noise: Proximity to Interstate 90 affects some locations. "Interstate noise and the occasional train whistle would keep me from using the facility for nothing more than an overnight stop," mentioned a visitor at Bearmouth RV Park.

Limited cell coverage: Connectivity varies significantly by location. One Boulder Creek Lodge guest pointed out "no att cell service" but "good WiFi" at their campsite.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Properties with dedicated children's areas reduce travel needs. "The playgrounds are fun for the kiddos and the river walk is super close," observed a guest at Bernie & Sharons Riverfront RV Park.

Indoor recreation options: Weather contingencies matter in mountain environments. "We went ahead and took showers in the downstairs bathroom/shower house. Huge clean shower stalls," noted a Boulder Creek Lodge visitor who appreciated the indoor facilities during rainy conditions.

Water activities: River tubing provides summer entertainment. According to a Bearmouth RV Park camper, the owners "even provided a shuttle up and down the river so we could tube!"

Tips from RVers

Electric capacity: Power requirements vary between sites. At Bernie & Sharons Riverfront RV Park, a guest confirmed "The wiring held up great, ran both AC's at the same time with no issues."

Dump station access: Sewage disposal options include mobile services at some locations. A Bearmouth RV Park visitor explained they "offer a 'honey pot' mobile dump station where they come pump your sewage, sometimes offering a free dump for stays of a week or longer."

Arrival procedures: Check-in processes differ between campgrounds. At Bernie & Sharons Riverfront RV Park, "Right when you pull up, someone comes to greet you to make sure you know where you're going and what direction to pull in," making arrival easier for large rigs.
