Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, MT

Fairmont RV Resort accommodates pets with full-hookup sites near Anaconda-Deer Lodge County. The pet-friendly campground features RV sites with electric, water, and sewer connections, plus tent camping areas on grassy spots. Lost Creek State Park Campground also welcomes pets within its forested sites nestled between impressive rock walls. Most campgrounds in the area maintain standard pet policies requiring leashes and proper waste disposal, with Big Sky RV Park and 2 Bar Lazy H RV Campground both offering pet-friendly environments. Amenities vary widely with Fairmont providing clean restrooms and showers, while dispersed camping options like Upper Seymour Lake and Flower Lake allow pets in more primitive settings. The bathrooms at Fairmont are particularly noted for cleanliness, though some visitors report finding dog waste throughout the grounds despite provided waste bags.

Hiking trails surrounding the camping areas provide excellent opportunities for dog exercise, particularly at Lost Creek State Park where walking paths follow a river with waterfall features. Upper Seymour Lake dispersed camping requires a 7-mile hike in with pets, making it suitable for more adventurous campers and trail-ready dogs. Bear country precautions are essential when bringing pets to backcountry sites like Flower Lake, where campers should make noise to avoid surprising wildlife. The Dickie Bridge campground along the Big Hole River offers fishing access alongside pet-friendly camping, though visitors note mosquitoes can become problematic in summer months. Winter camping requires special consideration for pets, as temperatures can drop well below freezing with occasional blizzard conditions at higher elevations. Gird Point

    Gorgeous!!

Gird Point Campground which is located in the Bitterroot National Forest is gorgeous. I love camping in Montana- I honestly have never had a bad experience camping anywhere in Montana. Gird Point is definitely no exception. My favorite part about this campsite is that it is located at the top of a peak. Camping on this peak definitely has gorgeous views, no doubt. There are three different mountain ranges that you are able to look out and see. Honestly, this is the best thing to wake up to. Talk about picturesque. You are able to stay in the lookout which has two beds that you are able to put your sleeping bags/pads on, and the lookout sleeps 4 people. When I went, we did have 4 people and it fit us pretty well. There is also a wood stove that works great for heating up water and cooking. The lookout also comes with some utensils and other amenities. Obviously, you do need to bring your own bathing supplies, sleeping supplies, food and drinks. You are able to drive to a certain point and then you do have to hike the remainder of the length to the lookout. The hike isn't too bad.

    Toll Mountain Campground

    Pretty Neat

Wow this was a very unique camping experience up in the boulders. Had a lot of fun walking my dogs and cat up in there. (Yes my cat goes camping too). There was no water pumps on the campground, however there is a nice little creek running through that one could get water. Also there were vault toilets and the one we used was closer to the entrance of the campground. It was clean, however the door didn't lock. Really wish we didn't go on a holiday weekend as it sounded like a dirt bike ho-down and wasn't very relaxing. We will try again during the week or a non holiday weekend. The stars were gorgeous, and the bird watching was phenomenal. At least when there weren't dirt bikes.

    Sula Country Store and Resort

    Nicest, cleanest, friendliest

I was camping at a nearby national park site that had a flyer for Camp Sula, saying that if you show the receipt from your stay you can use Camp Sulas shower, laundry facilities and wifi at no cost. I arrived there and the ladies working in the combination store/restaurant/gas and coffee station were so friendly and down to earth. I was given a towel and shampoo/conditioner for the shower, they had complimentary and coin washing machines, and coin dryers, all very efficient. After my shower and waiting for clothes to dry, I walked around the camp, the log cabins are adorable and cozy, each has its own porch, picnic table and adjacent fire pit. There is free put-put golf, horseshoes, tetherball and a small well stocked fishing pond with benches to watch the action or simply admire the beauty of the surroundings. It is close to the main highway but tucked back enough you feel "away" from the bustle. I enjoyed myself so much I inquired about camping there for the night & I would only need a parking space because I sleep in my truck bed canopy. They were full (accommodates RVs and tents) but offered a makeshift spot right by the creek. It was perfect. Because of COVID, they had limited reservations for dinner, and practiced social distancing and requested patrons wear masks. Not everyone participated with their request but were equally treated with kindness and respect. I highly recommend their breakfast, big fluffy pancakes and local meats. They kept the restaurant, showers & bathroom & store very very clean. The location is a landmark, the Lewis and Clark expedition camped there on their way to discover the west. I highly recommend them

    Grasshopper Campground

    Lovely!!

My family and I had such a blast here. We stayed at a different campground the last time we visited Montana and it wasn’t a very good place, so we definitely did more research beforehand and found that this place was a real gem and it truly was. The lake nearby was incredible. We spent a lot of our time here. We also found some amazing hikes that were less than 30miles away from the campground and they were incredible. Hiking in Montana is amazing and hands down worth it. I’m from Washington where hiking is perfect, but Montana gives it a run for its money. Worth the drive! The campground was clean and well kept. Decent size spaces which was nice. Lots of shade which was awesome!

    Lodgepole Campground

Quiet Campground, Watch the Roads in Places

This was a bit tight pulling our 35 ft fifth wheel, but just be careful with a couple of the turns. The campground roads need some work in spots - there were several potholes as deep as 6-8 inches - enough to jar your teeth out If you're not watching for them.

Sites are very nicely spaced with lots of sunlight and dappled shade. Everyone was pretty quiet and well mannered. I was a bit surprised by how empty this campground was during the week, despite it being summer. Mon-Fri I would say it wasn't more than 30-50% full. It did fill up on the weekends.

Stayed here two weeks in July. You're at 6000ish feet, so the weather is delightful in the summer. Some nice hiking is within walking distance, and Echo Lake is a decent workout from the campground.

There are several pressurized water spigots spaced around the campground, but oddly, they don't have a standard garden hose fitting. I have a 55 gallon bladder I fill and then I use a pump to fill my rig from the bladder. This saves me from having to move the rig to get water. The camp hosts site did have a standard hose fitting and he had no problem letting me fill the bladder several times during my stay.

There is a day use area (Red Bridge) across the street on Georgetown Lake, but there's not much there. Only a couple picnic tables and a boat ramp. No shade. No place to let the dogs swim and play fetch. I recommend going east back up Montana Route 1 a mile or so to the Grassy Point boat launch. Large parking lot with plenty of doggie access to the water for playing and fetching.

All in all, a nice place to spend a couple weeks.

    Fairmont RV Resort

    Nice location

Nice location for an overnight rest spot. We had a tent site, close to the road, but traffic wasn’t bad after dark. Site was grassy. No fires allowed for obvious reasons. We were the only tent guests. Most people looked like they were long term RV’rs. IMMACULATE bathrooms and showers with hot water and pressure ! There’s a hot springs nearby, a water slide, golf course and resort hotel/casino. Easy access to I-15. Only drawback I could see was that there was dog poop everywhere. Bags were provided, but apparently people don’t use them :(

    Lost Creek State Park Campground

    Lost Creek State Park

We stumbled on this campground by accident but were very surprised by how wonderful it was. The campground is tucked between two imposing rock walls that deliver wonderful sunset and sunrise scenery. The camp spots are really nice with level spots for parking or tents, lots of nice tall trees (for hammocks!), easy access to a beautiful trail with stunning sights and some relic surprises and nicely positioned boulders for privacy between spots. We're definitely going back there!

    Galena Gulch

BLM Free camping Outside of Boulder, MT

I I initially found this on free campsites. Com. Though the official website is listed as BLM, BLM actually doesn't have Galena Gulch on their site. However, this is a clean and mowed campsite that is largely grassy field next to the boulder River. The mountainous and forested Recreation area surrounded it though.

There is plenty of space for RVs, though there are no hookups of any kind. There is no water and no electricity and no cell phone service. I have Verizon. I took a star away because there wasn't any water but added it back because it was free!

There were probably a dozen official sites that had fire rings and a parking spur. While there were a couple sizable rigs there, if your RV is so big that you must have a pull through, you will probably find this Campground challenging.

There was a large grassy area and another smaller grassy area that were simply open with no fire ring or parking spur. However, it was very easy to park on the grass and several people could pitch tents there if they wanted. I did this.

There are two side-by-side pit toilets and an information board in the center. They were clean and stocked. Once again, I want to emphasize that there is no water here. The boulder river is directly adjacent but locals in Montana don't consider any water safe.

There were multiple people there with their dogs and a great number of sites filled with RVs. At the time I was there there were only two of us tenting.

Your GPS will get you here, nearly. Take the exit it tells you and follow the directions. However, my GPS told me that I had arrived and I was looking at the boulder River on the right and houses on the left and no Campground. What you have to do is go up the road another hundred feet and follow the sign to turn right to Galena Recreation Area. This takes you on an underpass under the freeway and immediately becomes a gravel road that goes over a one-lane bridge. You can't make any wrong turn here. As soon as you cross the bridge you will see the campground immediately on your right. From the time you make the right hand turn to the campground it is probably a couple hundred feet. From getting off the freeway to the campsite is probably less than a mile

I was there for 3 night and it was full every night. However, the turnover seems high as it appears most people use it as an overnight on their travels, especially since there are not any services there. But it's a pretty area. Some people bring their ATV and use the dirt road that runs through the recreation Area to drive around. You can use that road to hike to , also the radon health mine is right up the road.

Bring water and food as you would have to drive 20 minutes back to Boulder to get services. Boulder's a cute small town with a few restaurants, a grocery store, gas stations and a very wonderful Hot Springs Resort.

    Lowland Campground

    Overnight

This is a small campground (my kinda place). Only a handful of other sites were filled. Lots of birds, chipmunks, and prairie dogs. The view was jaw dropping. I wasn’t able to venture around much but would like to in the future. My site was bordering a huge meadow. Amazing!

Winter temperatures often drop to single digits while summer days average 75-85°F with cool evenings. What to do

Fishing access: The Dickie Bridge campground provides direct access to the Big Hole River. "Great location along big hole river for fishing and hunting," notes John T. The site includes a dirt boat ramp and parking for vehicles with trailers.

Hot springs relaxation: Fairmont RV Resort campers can walk to Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. "About 2 blocks from hot spring resort with indoor/outdoor pools, dining & bar," according to Doug P. Another camper adds, "They have a general store that's cute and homey and the park itself is very spacious."

Lake activities: Stuart Mill Bay offers two boat launches—one for motorized and one for non-motorized vessels. "If you like to fish, and/or boat the Stuart Mill Bay is just for you. This state fishing access site campground has you right on the lake shore or very close to lake for easy fishing and boating access," reports Dexter I.

What campers like

Secluded backcountry camping: The Flower Lake Dispersed Camping area requires significant hiking effort but rewards with solitude. Quinn Z. describes the experience: "Once we got to Flower Lake, it was serene. From the time we left Upper Seymour Lake to the time we got back, we didn't see or hear another soul. Five days of just us."

Waterfall proximity: At Lost Creek State Park Campground, campers enjoy easy waterfall access. "Lost Creek Falls... after a very long 125 yard hike you will be treated with the 50 foot Lost Creek Falls," explains Dexter I. Another visitor notes, "A nice hundred yard path that is paved to the waterfall for anyone with mobility issues."

Clean facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards. One camper at Fairmont RV Resort observed, "The shower and toilets are immaculate and secure with secure code door locks." At Piney Campground, visitors note the well-maintained sites overlooking Georgetown Lake.

What you should know

Weather preparedness: Mountain conditions change rapidly. One Flower Lake camper reported, "We got slammed with a blizzard that lasted all of the second day and night. We were expecting snow that day, but this was more than we were imagining. It was COLD."

Site availability: First-come-first-served sites fill quickly during peak season. At Stuart Mill Bay, "The campground was sold out when I came by... This campground will likely be full often."

Bear safety requirements: For pet-friendly camping near Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, Montana, wilderness areas require bear precautions. Quinn Z. advises at Flower Lake, "BRING BEAR SPRAY. HANG YOUR FOOD. This is grizzly country and we saw a LOT of signs of them. Fresh droppings. Fresh prints in the snow after the blizzard."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly rules: Piney Campground And Boat Launch offers spacious sites with lake access. A visitor reported, "Not a lot of shade due to beetle infestation. But wasn't an issue in June. All boats, including inflatable kayaks need to be inspected at a Montana inspection station before launching in the water."

Speed limits: Campgrounds with children enforce strict driving rules. At Fairmont RV Resort, "Just be sure to NEVER drive over 5mph as its the number one rule that is the quickest way to get booted out of there. It's for the children's safety and they take it very seriously."

Winter activities: For winter pet camping near Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, Georgetown Lake offers ice fishing. Dexter I. noted at Stuart Mill Bay, "Lake was frozen on my visit so I was out of luck for any fishing."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: For pet-friendly RV camping in Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, look beyond the obvious. At Lost Creek State Park, "Hold out for the loop at the end of the road for nicer sites." Another camper advises, "The first 7 sites are along the entrance road and are exposed."

Full hookup options: Big Sky RV Park offers extended-stay options. One visitor noted, "This is an older park, and the amenities are lacking. Bathroom, with shower, has no lock on the door... There is one washer and dryer set on site, and it is reasonable."

Limited shade: Many RV parks have minimal tree cover. A visitor to 2 Bar Lazy H RV Campground observed, "Trees are almost none existent," while another mentioned, "It is located on a hill with well maintained gravel roads and pull throughs 30/50 Amp and full hookups."
