      Nine Eagles - Youth Campground

Nine Eagles is near Lamoni, Iowa near the Iowa-Missouri border right off of Interstate 35. I camped here with my son and his Boy Scout troop in the youth group part of the campground. I can't speak for the rest of the park's camping facilities, but the youth group site is a large open space surrounded by tall trees. The grass is well maintained and the campsite is clean and beautiful. There are not any bathroom facilities at the campsite which is why I give it four instead of five stars, but the park is beautiful and a peaceful place to camp. I wish I would have had my camera with me to take some pictures to share.

      Overall nice park

Nice park, a little run down, but there's a new park ranger in town who is trying to fix it up. New rental cabin almost finished, clean beach, boat ramp and fishing. Clean spacious bathrooms, nice playground for the kids and a really cool equestrian section. No store, no wood so get what you need before you get here.

      Nine Eagles State Park Campground

      Big park. Lots of trails

This park is huge with a lot of trails most of which are not on a map and a map isnt provided out on them either so one just kind of has to make guesses on where to go. The electric campground is completely exposed to the sun. Nice right now but has to be brutal in the summer and the sites are right on top of one another as well. It is also a long ways from the beach as is the primitive campground. Horse campground is adorable but there are only primitive sites there which I always find so surprising. They have multiple trails leaving from there though which is cool. Firewood is sold in the small town a mile away and there is a very old cemetery right outside of the park which is cool to meander through. Bathrooms were closed but the water and electric were on and the price is very reasonable.

      Wooded Hosted Campground

Best value on a trip across country. Not far off of RT 36 going East through Missouri. Cost only $13 with hot showers. Nice campsite with table and fire pit. The night of our stay the ranger did a naturalist talk about stream life. Host was very nice and we were able to pay with a debit card. The Missouri State park system is automated and accepts credit cards.

      Wallace State Park Campground

      Rain camping

We came here fully expecting rain and we got it. Only problem was we planned to tie up some tarps to sit under but we didn't know that it was against the rules to tie to the trees at these sites. luckily we made it work tieing to the roof of the table and a stump. As far as the camp ground its self, rules aside, it is amazing. All the tent sites are separated by trees and bushes so you get plenty of room to your self but they are close enough you can still connect with other groups if you want. Another great part about it is that there are walking paths through the woods from each site that meet up at a central restroom. The main bathrooms and showers are over by the office and are super nice but it is good that there are a couple stalls close for the middle of the night situations. Tons of walking trails are around and a decent playground for the kids as well. Overall loved this place.

      Wallace State Park Campground

Wallace State Park in Cameron, MO

There are mixed RV and tent camping sites, including primitive and walk in sites. You can get water and electric at most sites. Each campground has an iron fire ring with a grill attached.

There are nice hiking trails. Trails are well marked. There three levels to choose from based on distance.

There is also a small lake to fish or swim in. The lake for it's size, had some nice fish.

The community shower and bathroom houses are not air conditioned. The floors are slab cement, but the park staff clean them daily.

Overall, I think that campgrounds are decent.

      A quiet getaway

We arrived on Thursday evening. After a short debate we opted to pay the extra money for an electric site - based solely on the fact that the water wasn't turned on in the basic site loop (we later discovered it was also off at the swimming beach).

At a guess the basic sites aren't used much as they seemed less kept than the electric sites. Finding a place to pitch a tent in the electric loop was a challenge but we did find one that had enough level grass. Site 4 - close to the water spigot and a modest walk to the bathroom/showerhouse.

Though it was definitely busier come Friday night not all the sites were full and most seemed to be retired or semi-so with grandkids. No party atmosphere - which is what we happened to be looking for this trip.

A nice, quiet place to spend a weekend away with Amish country store a close distance by.

    Guide to Trenton

Hiking trail exploration: Wallace State Park Campground features multiple trail difficulty levels through forested terrain. "The trails around Wallace are fantastic. From a casual stroll around the lake to a more vigorous hike up the hill this park provides it all," reports Chad K. about the trail system.

Historical sites: Visit the historic cemetery located just outside Nine Eagles State Park. According to Teresa T., "there is a very old cemetery right outside of the park which is cool to meander through." This offers a cultural complement to nature activities.

    What campers like

Shaded, secluded sites: Wallace State Park Campground offers private camping spaces within wooded areas. Erin P. appreciates how "many of the basic sites are secluded or at least mostly separate from other sites. Many have treeline surrounding so your site is closed off from others, ensuring some privacy."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and shower houses are frequently mentioned as standout features. Kevin S. reports "Sparkling clean showers and lovely grounds" at Wallace State Park Campground, while Uhura G. notes Nine Eagles provides "a nice, quiet place to spend a weekend away."

Horse-friendly amenities: Equestrian campers particularly value the dedicated horse facilities. Dorothy H. simply states, "Wonderful area for horses. Great trials," highlighting the appeal for riders seeking horse campgrounds near Trenton, Missouri.

    What you should know

Limited amenities: Come prepared with supplies when visiting conservation areas. "No store, no wood so get what you need before you get here," advises Lauri C. about Nine Eagles State Park Campground, noting the limited on-site purchasing options.

Restricted camping areas: Bonanza Conservation Area has specific rules about camping locations. Kevin C. warns, "It is against their rules to camp anywhere but on a gravelly parking lot. We camped just off the road and got a citation."

Seasonal water access: Water availability varies by season and location. "The water wasn't turned on in the basic site loop (we later discovered it was also off at the swimming beach)," shares Uhura G. about a spring visit to Nine Eagles.

Campsite selection considerations: Electric sites at Nine Eagles lack shade. Teresa T. observes, "The electric campground is completely exposed to the sun. Nice right now but has to be brutal in the summer and the sites are right on top of one another as well."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Wallace State Park offers updated play equipment for children. Chad K. mentions the park has "a updated playground for the kids," making it suitable for families seeking equestrian camping near Trenton, Missouri.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Electric sites with additional amenities are available at multiple parks. Terry reports about Wallace State Park: "Clean campground clean bathrooms. Power hookup no water or sewer at site but both are available in the campground. $21 a night for seniors."

Campground layout considerations: When planning an RV trip, note the distance between amenities. At Nine Eagles, Teresa T. points out that the electric campground is "a long ways from the beach as is the primitive campground," which affects accessibility.
