"Sites were a little close together and you could hear some highway noise, but in all the campground was pretty," noted one visitor. Sharp RV Park accommodates big rigs with concrete pads at select sites and includes water, electric, and sewer hookups. Pony Express RV maintains 78 sites with both 30 and 50-amp service options, while Love's RV Hookup in St. Joseph provides basic overnight accommodations with 30/50-amp electrical and water connections.

Many travelers report highway noise as a consistent factor, particularly at AOK Campground where interstate sounds are noticeable though not overwhelming. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, dump stations at Love's RV locations can be challenging to access with larger rigs. Weston Bend State Park Campground

Quiet campground close to many Kansas City attractions

Campground is hilly, sites are level, gravel pads. Lots of space between sites. Electric sites, no water, but water spigots were scattered around the campground. Majority of sites had shade. Most sites are back in, there are 2 pull through sites and 2 family sites. Firewood is available for sale on the honor system near the camp host. Nice shower facilities and laundry available (one washer, one dryer). Regular trash dumpster and also recycling. Pit toilets also available. Dump station across from dumpsters and recycling. Entrance gate closes at 9 pm.

    Weston Bend State Park Campground

    Enjoyable Stay

Getting to the state park off I 29 and through the countryside was easy as the route had Weston Bend SP signage. We followed the SP signs to the campground(CG) where the gate was not manned so we headed to get water, but someone was sitting in the dump station waiting for another person to arrive so we went around this one-loop CG to see if there was a convenient spigot. There are spigots but with a larger rig, you will block the road, and/or you will be on a hill. We went back around and the person moved so we could get water. After that, we headed to pull through site 28 with electric(50/30/20 AMP) only. The site is long but has a 1/4 moon turn so we had to pull back around to get better positioned on the pad so we could disconnect our 39’ 5th wheel and F450 for our 3-night stay. There were tree branches overhead that we could not avoid. RVers next to us in site 30 had just arrived as well and were having trouble getting their travel trailer unhitched and leveled due to the pad’s slight incline and unlevel asphalt. They got their trailer positioned so they could get somewhat level. We got a solid two bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile. Due to our proximity to Kansas City, we got a lot of OTA channels. A satellite connection would be iffy in most sites here due to the number of mature trees. The trees in a lot of sites would also scrape the top of larger rigs. There’s a variety of sites with most being good for regular trailers versus tall rigs, and tent sites. They have a nice shower house with 1 washer and 1 dryer both for$1.50. There are also vaulted toilets here and there. There’s a 1.7-acre fenced dog park that includes one large area for large dogs and two other areas with one dedicated to smaller dogs. The dog area is at the front park entrance away from the campground and it would be a long walk to get there, so we drove up. There are a lot of hiking trails here plus an old tobacco barn that’s worth a look.

    Basswood Country RV Resort

Clean But Dated With Lots of Long Term Renters

We visited Basswood Country RV Resort in October 2020. All in all our experience was a positive one, but prospective visitors should know that there is a large section of long term renters that you must drive through to get to the short term sites. This gave the impression that this was less a vacation park and more of a trailer park. The facilities were clean, but older. The site we stayed in was large and level.

    Basswood Country RV Resort

A lovely place to get away

We needed a place to stop over and stumbled upon Basswood Resorts on our way back from the Ozarks. What a find! It's located 20 miles north of Kansas City and had full hookups, and even wifi and cable. It was beautiful and well kept. We were lucky enough to get a site across from one of its 5 small lakes. You could fish in the lakes and didn't even need a license. We watched kids get excited as they caught fish after fish.

There was a store which had a pizza place inside, playgrounds, swimming pool, outdoor games, a game room, volleyball, trails, and even golf carts for rent. Very family friendly place. It also had a fenced dog run which was great for the pups. Wish I would have known about this place when my children were young; they would have loved it.

It was scenic and relaxing and we will definitely stop again.

    Love's RV Hookup-St. Joseph MO 235

    Not the Best Option

This Love’s RV Hook Up is right off I-29. We’ve enjoyed several stays at these new Love’s campgrounds(CG) and they are normally away from the main car and truck fueling areas. After cruising around the truck area, we found that we needed to go to the car area as the CG is literally off the auto-side fuel pumps/parking lot. There is a lane that we could have driven through from the truck area and this would've put us in the right position to back into our site. However, there was a Love's fuel truck parked there the whole time of our stay. There are six back-in sites with water and electric. They give you a code if you want to use the dump station. We reserved site 1 with water and electric(50/30/20 AMP). It still could have been an easy back-in but there was a big U-Haul truck parked outside of the formal parking areas in our path. We were still able to maneuver around and get in our site. After parking, we checked in online to activate our utilities. We quickly found out when we auto-leveled that site 1 was not a level site as our passenger side tires were off the ground. And whoever designed these sites thought boulders between sites was a good idea? We had to position our rig to avoid a boulder on the pad, so that we could open our basement slide drawer. The utilities are at the far backside of the pad and based on our rig’s configuration with the wet bay towards the front, we needed 25’ or more of hose and electric cord. The water pressure here is good. The WiFi is also for general public use and not very fast. We got 3 bars on Verizon and used our MiFi for internet as we were not comfortable putting out Starlink in this general public area. We were next to Love’s two-sided dog park, which if not for dog poop on the inside and around the outside would have been a great convenience. Concerning the uncomfortable comment, two stealth campers in cars were in parking spaces adjacent to our site for the night. We shared the CG with a Scottish Rugby cycling team traversing the USA raising AHS awareness. We did not know that starting around 6:00 AM the sprinklers came on and all of their gear got wet. The sprinklers also make mud puddles at the dog park entrance. Loves should gravel the small and large dog entrances. There should also be signs to let campers know about the sprinklers. The other Love’s RV Stops we stayed in had restroom and shower facilities, here you go in the main building and pay to use the trucker showers. The dump station is hard to get into with a large rig. Wrapping up this unpleasant stay, this Love’s was one up on a Walmart parking lot as it had water and electric.

    Rochester Falls Access

    Rochester Falls Access

Not really big rig friendly. One site, maybe. We got ours (43.5') in, barely. It's the first site out of the 6 or 7 here. Great for 30' travel trailers. Lots of trees for shade, but that limits sunlight for those that need solar. Some traffic noise, but not an issue indoors.

    Crow's Creek Campground

    Mixed feelings

The camping area is nice, most things are well maintained and staff was really nice. Think if we visited during summer our experience would have been better.

We stayed in October and due to unseasonably cold weather they shut off water with no notice and halfway through our stay. Ended up leaving early since we had no water and also no sewer at site.

    Big Lake State Park Campground

    Nice sites on the lake

Both back in and pull through sites available with electric, dump site, and fresh water fill station. Hosts are very friendly and drive around with firewood right on the back. Easy to reserve online and nice, level, shaded gravel sites, and primitive sites right by the lake. Bring your bug spray in the summer.

Guide to Amazonia

Near Amazonia, Missouri, campgrounds cluster along the Interstate 29 corridor with most RV sites located within 20 miles of town. The region sits at approximately 800 feet elevation with humid continental climate patterns that bring hot summers and cold winters. Several area campgrounds include small fishing ponds and pedestrian trails that connect to larger regional systems.

What to do

Fishing without a license: At Basswood Country RV Resort, visitors can fish in any of the five small lakes without purchasing a fishing license. "You could fish in the lakes and didn't even need a license. We watched kids get excited as they caught fish after fish," notes one camper.

Visit historic sites: The region has connections to President Harry Truman's personal history. "This used to be a favorite fishing spot of President Harry S. Truman, check out the Mother in Law cabin—built at his request," mentions a reviewer from Basswood Country RV Resort.

Swimming options: Most rv parks near Amazonia, Missouri maintain seasonal swimming pools from late spring through early fall. "The kids did get some pool time (it was a nice pool) and loved the blob (whatever you call the bounce pads)," notes a visitor at Basswood about their recreational amenities.

What campers like

Easy highway access: Starlite RV Park and other campgrounds provide convenient interstate access for travelers. At nearby Love's RV Hookup in Cameron, a reviewer appreciated the location, stating it was "Conveniently off I35. Perfect for a quick overnight stop on your journey!"

Privacy in tent sites: Some Amazonia area RV parks maintain separate, more secluded spaces for tent campers. A motorcycle camper at AOK Campground & RV Park shared, "I was given a giant secluded spot by the pond, separate from the RV area," noting how the management accommodated non-RV travelers.

Affordable overnight accommodations: Travelers passing through the Amazonia region appreciate economical options. "Full hook up and you can't really hear the interstate," mentioned one visitor at Love's RV Hookup-Cameron, highlighting both utility access and reasonable noise conditions.

What you should know

Many parks have permanent residents: Several RV parks around Amazonia serve as long-term housing rather than vacation destinations. At Beacon RV Park, a reviewer noted "A lot of full timers here, not really anywhere to park (have room for about 1 vehicle). Owner had to have the neighbors move their vehicles just to be able to back into spot."

Airplane noise: Certain campgrounds experience regular aircraft noise due to proximity to airports. At Basswood Country RV Resort, one camper warned, "Hope you like airplanes!!! Not too far from KCI and planes making their final decent fly right over top."

Weekend vs. weekday stays: Visitors should be aware of potential timing challenges. At Pony Express RV, a camper cautioned: "We arrived on Sunday at 3:30 pm & office closed. Booked online which stated campground would assign spot. No one around & placed 2 calls unanswered."

Tips for camping with families

Public recreation amenities: Some RV parks near Amazonia offer access to community resources. One reviewer at A Country Charm RV Park pointed out, "City pool and playground across the street. Only stayed one night so didn't get a chance to try those."

Weekend activities: Family-friendly scheduled events enhance stays at certain parks. A regular visitor to Basswood Country RV Resort shared, "Every weekend there are organized activities such as arts and crafts, fishing contests, duck races and frozen t-shirt contests in the pool, and a Saturday evening outdoor movie."

Bathroom considerations: Families with children should research bathroom facilities in advance. A Country Charm RV Park received praise for its facilities: "Bathrooms were top-notch. Every campground should have the same set up. Handicap accessible, all in one in same room. So great if you have kids or someone with a disability."

Tips from RVers

Level site options: RV campers consistently mention leveling requirements in reviews of campgrounds around Amazonia, Missouri. At Sharp RV Park, a reviewer specifically praised the "some concrete pads, some gravel" setup.

Utility connection placement: AOK Campground's design addresses a common RV park complaint. A visitor appreciated that "the back to back campsites so your neighbors sewer isn't in your area," showing attention to campsite layout details.

Cell service reliability: Digital connectivity varies widely between campgrounds. While not mentioned in reviews for every location, multiple visitors report viable Verizon coverage with sufficient strength for basic connectivity tasks at most RV parks around Amazonia.
