Rocky terrain and tight spacing define the camping experience at this Missouri state park on Table Rock Lake. The campground operates two separate areas, with Campground 1 featuring higher-amp electrical connections and Campground 2 offering both electric and primitive sites at lower rates.
Site selection follows a drive-through system where campers locate yellow vacancy signs, claim their preferred spot, then register at the office. Most sites include asphalt parking pads suitable for RVs up to 35 feet, fire rings with grill covers, and picnic tables. Stephanie O. notes "basic tent sites aren't the best; the electric sites are nice and flat, but our site was hilly and very rocky." Campers consistently recommend bringing extra padding for ground comfort.
The park provides direct access to the popular Lakeshore Trail, a paved path running from the marina to the Dewey Short Visitor Center along the lake's edge. Waterfront sites 274-278 offer prime lake access, while sites backing to wooded areas provide more privacy. The marina offers boat rentals and sternwheeler excursions, and swimming areas feature no-wake coves for protection.
Restroom facilities receive high marks from visitors, with Alex M. calling them "clean and extremely modern" and noting they're "some of the best I've seen so far." Each shower includes individual exterior entrances and changing areas. Cell service remains strong throughout most areas, though the park doesn't sell firewood or ice on-site.
The campground stays open year-round, unlike many Missouri state parks, making it accessible for shoulder-season camping. For additional overnight options, campers can explore campgrounds just outside Hollister. Arrive early on weekends during peak season, as sites fill quickly despite the rocky conditions.
