Natalabany Creek Campground and RV Park

    RV'S AND CABINS ONLY

This campground is for RV's and Cabin rentals only. This park has lots of things to keep the kiddo's occupied. There is a HUGE pond for catch and release fish (no swimming or boating). There is an arcade room, swimming pool, putt putt golf, and a really great creek behind the cabins. This sites are spacious with water, electric, and sewer. This is the kind of place to stay at while exploring the local area(s). Very clean park, very nice staff. The cabins are so cute, comfy and sleep 8. Also a great place for bike riding (road, not mountain). The location is just off of the Interstate with easy access.

This is definitely a vacation type park. No roughing it here.

    Clear Springs Recreation Area

A great little campground for RVs or tents

Clear Springs Recreation Area, located in the Homochitto National Forest near Roxie, Ms, is probably one of my favorite campgrounds within 3 hours from New Orleans. It's located in a beautiful section of the forest, complete with rolling hills and a lake.

The primitive tent only sites are located about half a mile up the road from the main campground, providing a substantial distance between you and the RVs. The dirt road to the tent only sites is lined with individual camp sites until you reach the back area. The back has a few small hilltops that have about 4 sites per hill. Each hill is about 50 yards from each other, again, providing needed space between you and other campers. All of the sites have fire pits with fold down cast iron grills. The ground was level enough for tents, and there's a good amount of trees for hammock camping.

The RV spots are located near the lake(pond), and have picnic tables and the fire pit. Some of the RV sites are more open air and without much privacy, yet some are nestled amongst the trees on the outer perimeter.

Adjacent to the RV sites are the restrooms, equipped with showers. On a very cold and frozen winter morning, I had decided to visit the facilities. To my great surprise, when I opened the door, I was hit with blast of warm air! So you can rest easy knowing that the restrooms are heated. There is a large pavilion that is open to air on three sides. the open sides have a railing with bench seats. There are also picnic tables located within. Most interesting was the oversized stone fireplace. It looks most welcoming, although I had no chance to use it.next to the pavilion is an open picnic area with charcoal grills and more tables. All of these picnic areas overlook the pond.

I understand that there is 17 miles of hiking trails surrounding the area. It looks like a large circuit with shorter trails interconnecting by the map.

I haven't experienced this campground outside of dead winter. I enjoyed the subfreezing temps next to a hot fire. I have been four times in the last couple of years, twice solo and twice with guests. I very much love this campground.

    Mostly peaceful

You have to carry your stuff to your camp site as people have already said. Ownership is nice and helpful. You can buy a small bundle of wood for $5. Stayed in the little A frame cabin. Port-o-potties are clean and there is a shower and a sink. I also had good service the whole time(verizon.)

    Tunica Hills Campground

    Beautiful and unique

Loved this small quiet camp ground. It is basically hike-in, although the host is great enough to offer to haul your stuff with her 4WD atv cart. The common areas are a surprising bonus. Shower was lukewarm but portopotties are spotless. Dishwashing station and outdoor kitchen are icing on cake.

We stayed at the site “Wilson” which was incredible. If you don’t want / need electricity site #10 is tops.

    Clear Springs Recreation Area

    Nice family campground

$20, $13 with fed pass. 22 sites. Electric & water hookups. Dump station. Two campground loops - B: Sites 1-12, & A: Sites 13-22. Loop A is prettier that Loop B, but Loop B has more level sites which may be more suitable for larger campers. Camped at site 7 in a camper van. Large site backed against the woods with access to a hiking trail. Not much privacy between sites. Nice family campground. Sites have table, lantern post & fire ring. Picnic Area also in this rec area. Beautiful setting by the lake. Restroom/shower house needs some work. Mens shower stalls have standing water in them - possible drainage issue. Women's toilet stalls also have a similar issue due to a leaky toilet. Bugs were not too bad here in April. No AT&T & T-Mobile service at our campsite, but picked up a weak signal by the lake.

    Clear Springs Recreation Area

    Great camping location

Spent the weekend camping at one of the improved sites with water on site. Site had picnic table, fire pit, and plenty of room for tents and your camp set-up. Our site had a great view of the creek and was a little more tucked away but right by the bathrooms. Trails are throughout the area, couple of fishing spots, lots of picnic areas with grills and a playground. The place was not very crowded and the US Forest Service ranger (Virginia) was very kind and helpful. We hiked some of Richardson Creek Trail, but decided to turn around because it was overgrown at points and we found ticks on our dog. Otherwise, it was a beautiful walk through the woods. Several large banana spiders set up along the way so keep an eye out! Also, the county is supposed to be under a fire burn until the end of October.

What to do

Water recreation on Lake Tangipahoa: Percy Quin State Park offers excellent opportunities for fishing and kayaking. "We brought our kayaks and were able to dock at our campsite. Hiking through diverse terrain: Explore the nature trails at Clear Springs Recreation Area, where paths wind through rolling hills and around the lake. A camper notes, "It has 17 miles of hiking trails surrounding the area. It looks like a large circuit with shorter trails interconnecting by the map." The trails range from easy lakeside strolls to more challenging forest paths.

Wildlife viewing: Rental cabins at Paradise Ranch RV Resort offer unique wildlife encounters. "Upon first arriving in our RV, we checked in and rented a golf cart. This ranch is huge so you need some form of wheels, even if you just bring a bike... My kids fed the deer and they will eat it right from your hands," reports Abraham H., describing the family-friendly atmosphere.

What campers like

Quiet waterfront cabins: Lodging options at Lake Bruin State Park provide peaceful lakeside settings. "Maybe the best campsite I've ever had. Worth renting a pontoon for a day!" DENISE G. comments about site #5, which includes shade all day and a deck overlooking the water.

Secluded forested settings: Many campers appreciate the privacy offered at Tunica Hills Campground, located in Louisiana's distinctive hill country. "Most campsites are secluded from others. I recommend this place to anyone," reports Christian J., highlighting the sense of isolation rarely found in established campgrounds.

Convenient river access: Cabins at River View RV Park provide excellent access to the Mississippi River. "We spent a few days at River View RV Park in January, visiting Natchez and enjoying the view of the Mississippi River. The sites were pretty spacious and many have an unobstructed view of the river. There is even a nice paved trail on top of the levee," notes Art Z.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin facilities near Crosby require advance booking, especially during summer and holidays. For Paradise Ranch RV Resort, camper Nicole B. advises, "Book early!" due to high demand for their popular cabin accommodations.

Varying amenities: Cabin facilities range from basic to fully-equipped. At Tunica Hills Campground, Taylor C. reports, "The little A frame cabin is clean and there is a shower and a sink," noting the convenience of having basic amenities despite the remote setting.

Seasonal considerations: Winter camping can be enjoyable but requires preparation. "We enjoyed the subfreezing temps next to a hot fire," mentions one camper at Clear Springs, emphasizing that the bathrooms are heated during cold weather—a welcome feature for cabin campers using shared facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly swimming areas: Lake Bruin State Park offers designated swimming zones suitable for children of all ages. "It has 2 playgrounds for children and a small swimming area that is roped off," notes Jason R., adding that the swimming area includes sections for different skill levels.

Wildlife interaction opportunities: Paradise Ranch provides safe, supervised wildlife experiences. "You can feed the deer. They walk right up to you!" exclaims MikH, describing how the docile animals interact with visitors—a unique experience for children not available at most campgrounds.

Bike-friendly camping loops: Some cabin areas provide safe cycling for children. Johan S. comments about Clear Springs, "The lower [loop] seems to be the best area for family with little ones as it's easier to ride bikes around," highlighting an important consideration for families with young children.

Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives for RVers: When RV spots are full, cabins provide an alternative. At River View RV Park, LaRae L. observed, "There are some nice, private spaces, but staff weren't placing anyone in them due to storm & tornado warnings! Kept everyone close to the office & restrooms (aka storm shelter)," demonstrating how management prioritizes safety during severe weather.

Site selection considerations: For those choosing between RV sites and cabin rentals, selecting the right location matters. "Sites 3,4,5 are oriented where you see the water when you open your door. Sites 4 and 5 have a 25x10 foot deck extending from rv site-very nice," explains Jason R. about Lake Bruin State Park, pointing out premium locations worth requesting when making reservations for camping cabins near Crosby.
