Best Cabin Camping near Williamston, MI

Several state parks and private campgrounds around Williamston, Michigan provide rustic cabins and furnished cabin rentals with varying amenities. Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground in Laingsburg offers fully functional cabin lodging with electricity and heating options. Waterloo Recreation Area features the Southfork Rustic Cabin equipped with solar lighting, wood stove heating, small kitchen unit, and bunk beds that sleep four people. According to Kate K., "The cabin was semi-modern but only a wood stove for heat. You had to hike in about a quarter mile to get there." Most cabins include picnic tables and fire rings, with some offering private outdoor spaces. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area maintains three small rental cabins in its East campground area, providing a more open setting compared to the wooded West camping section.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location and season. Many state park cabins remain open year-round, while private campgrounds like Myers Lake Camping & Cabins in Byron operate from May through October. Pet policies vary significantly between locations, with some cabins being pet-friendly while others prohibit animals entirely. Andrea K. noted about Groveland Oaks County Park: "I don't believe the cabins are pet friendly though. It's probably the only reason we haven't been back." Advance reservations are essential, particularly for weekend stays during summer months. Cabin sizes range from intimate two-person structures to larger family accommodations with multiple sleeping areas. Outdoor Adventures Lake Shore Resort offers over 70 cabins with restrictions on dog breeds.

Most cabin rentals provide basic furnishings but require guests to bring their own bedding, pillows, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary widely, from simple countertops to small refrigerators and microwaves in more deluxe units. Firewood is typically available for purchase at park offices or nearby vendors. Campers should pack cooking utensils, dishwashing supplies, and food storage containers as these items are rarely provided. Brighton Recreation Area and Bishop Lake Campground offer nearby market access for groceries and camping supplies. Extension cords may be necessary for cabins with distant electrical outlets. Winter cabin visitors should prepare for potentially limited facilities, as some campgrounds close restrooms and water sources during off-season months.

Bathrooms were dated and we arrived Monday after Labor Day so I can't judge them. They had a FULL HOUSE on Labor Day per the front gate. I was very impressed there was no garbage at campsites and picked up very well.

GREAT biking trails you can catch on premise and bike over to Kensington and to the charming town of Milford

Pretty park with several well marked trails. We stayed in the Maple loop which had several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees. I think site #1 was one of the roomiest and prettiest. The bathrooms were clean. There were several playgrounds, bench swings, play fields and even a basketball court. The ADA sites had pavement surrounding the fire rings and space at the picnic tables for a wheel chair.

    A Wonderful Winter Getaway

We stayed in the Southfork Rustic Cabin at the end of Feb and it was lovely much needed get away. The cabin was semi modern (solar lighting) but only a wood stove for heat. Small kitchen unit with table for eating. You had to hike in about a quarter mile to get there, and it sleeps four people with two bunk beds. There is an outside vault toilet behind the cabin. Lots of trails connecting the cabin to the rest of the park. Cheap too! Only $68 per night.

    Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground

    Beautiful Park

Rangers working the area are very friendly. Many options to choose from in terms of camping, from rustic, tent to fully functional cabin lodging. The park is very large, so it is always good to have a vehicle able to drive to the trails and beach. Campsites are decent sized, can fit probably 3 four person tents per site, which includes a concrete firepit and picnic table. In the north campsites there is a lot of tree covering, and there are a lot of walnut trees that were shedding a lot this time of the year. Bathrooms are well spaced between the campsites you, and have showers along with some vending machines outside of them. Spigots are scattered throughout and are very accessible. Be sure to bring at least 100 feet of extension chord if you want electricity, because the power ports are not as accessible from some areas. Overall very pleasant campground.

    Seven Lakes State Park Campground

    Fab beach

This is a fabulous campground! There are over 20 sites, about half of which are located lake side (not directly on the lake, but there are little paths that lead you there and you can somewhat see the water from these sites.) There is a boat launch on one end of campground and the amazing beach on the other. The water is clear and warm (perfect lake for swimming) and there is both sand and grassy areas on the fairly large beach. The beach also offers picnic tables and benches. The only negative aspect I can see about this campground is that the sites are right on top of each other, so if you have a loud group or a generator next to you, it is noisy. But most campgrounds have sites set real close together, so you will find this pretty much everywhere. Def camp here! About an hours drive from a Pictured Rocks National Park. There are no showers or running water. Camp hosts were very nice, helpful, & welcoming.

    Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

    Quick get away

Wonderful place for a quick get away. Park is clean. Beach is a 1.8 mile hike from the East loop in the campground but is well worth the walk. (Trail is not stroller/wagon friendly) If you are hoping to hook up to electrical, bring extension cords; some hook ups are exceptionally far away from the designated RV parking pad. Extensive mountain biking trails and the lake is open to boating, kayaking, and other water sports. Park offers lots of private sites! We stayed in site 118 and could not see neighboring sites! The site was very spacious and offered picnic table, fire ring, paved pad, and electrical hook up. (hook up in this specific site was considerably far away.)

    Groveland Oaks County Park

SOOO much to do and what a beautiful place

We came here two years ago. My husband suggested the place because his family used to come here when he was a kid. There were many activities for everyone to do, especially for the kids. I don’t believe the cabins are pet friendly though. It’s probably the only reason we haven’t been back. We’ll definitely go back when we have a camper.
