    Elkhart Campground

    3 1/2 star campground

It is a very large older CG with a few upgrades. Clean, with decent amenities. We were placed in the rear section, which was just ok. Site needed leveling, had no shade at all and was close to major hwy. The front and side sites seemed nicer and had ample shade with some concrete sites. Laundry room, pool and bathrooms were very clean. Large dog park, but was far from our site. Was only 25 min from Notre Dame and about an hour from lake Michigan WiFi was great, no cable, but good antenna reception

    Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

    Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

    Johnny Appleseed Campground

    Great location

The location here is pretty crazy it’s right in the middle of town but feels like a park there is a river and wooded area that makes you feel like you are in nature but you are just a parking lot away from an arena and college. There is a playground and a dog park. Here as well as ball diamonds. This is a great family friendly place but is very very busy during the season.

    Great campground!

Great campground in the heart of Amish country. Near Elkhart and the RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museum. Great place to visit, really interesting. Also, near Shipshewana. Campground has lots of activities: pool, miniature golf, volley ball, fishing pond, big chess set, bike rental, mining area, playground, and rec. hall w/ video games, pool, ping pong, air hockey, and juke box. Nice little store. Dog park. Clean restrooms. Friendly owner and employees. Lots of mature shed trees.

    Cold Brook County Park

    Nice little county park!

29 campsites pretty close together with old growth trees interspersed around the campground. Fishing pier and boating, playground area, and beach. No longer has primitive camping. Some hiking trails...short. is next to a busy road, so traffic all night. Staff was great! Showers and bathrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Pet friendly. Would stay here again!

What to do

Water activities at lakes and rivers: Pokagon State Park Campground offers a variety of water recreation options. "There are trail, beaches, boats... so many things to do," notes Becky N. The park's lake features swimming areas and boat rentals for summer visitors.

Explore Amish country: Shipshewana Trading Place RV Park provides convenient access to Amish attractions. "This campground was very convenient to the town of Shipshewanna, Amish Country and the Pumpkinvine Bike Trail," shares Cindy B. Visitors can hear "the clopping of horse hooves as the Amish buggies go by" according to Greg D.

Canoe and kayak trips: Trading Post Outfitters arranges river trips for all skill levels. "They have to be the easiest and most accommodating canoe outfitters I have ever met," writes Anne L. The outfitter is located on the river with camping available right at the launch point.

Frisbee golf and trails: Cade Lake County Park & Campground features outdoor recreation beyond swimming. "This place is a nice cozy campground with a large frisbee golf course, a fishing and kayak lake, and a nice store," explains Eric M. The park includes walking paths around the lake.

What you should know

Campground layouts vary significantly: Site privacy and spacing differ between campgrounds. At Twin Mills Camping Resort, "certain areas are still nice and others look like a homeless shanty town," according to Jeffrey Y., while other campgrounds offer more consistent experiences.

Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds near Sturgis have limited operating seasons. Trading Post Outfitters provides canoe and camping services primarily during warmer months, with Anne L. noting it's "one of my favorite spots for a quick trip."

Pet-friendly options beyond the main locations: While Cade Lake and Twin Mills welcome pets, Elkhart RV Resort by Rjourney also accommodates pet owners. Maneuverability challenges: Some campgrounds present difficulty for larger rigs. At Trading Post Outfitters, Preston G. shares, "Stayed one night it's a beautiful campground just small.
