Brower Park Campground offers pet-friendly sites with water and electric hookups near the Muskegon River. This county park allows dogs throughout the camping areas, requiring pets to remain leashed while on site. Several campground sections accommodate RVs, tents, and cabins with varied proximity to water access. River Ridge RV Resort and Mecosta Pines Campground also welcome pets, with dedicated walking areas where dogs can exercise. The well-maintained facilities include clean shower buildings, making extended stays with pets more comfortable. Many campsites feature spacious layouts that provide ample room for pet containment equipment such as tie-outs or portable pens.

Nearby trails and water access create numerous opportunities for dog-friendly recreation. The Dragon Trail, accessible from Brower Park, offers 47 miles of hiking with dogs along Hardy Pond with a shorter Brower Park Loop available for quick excursions. Campers frequently set chairs in the shallow, sandy bottom areas of the Muskegon River at Mecosta Pines where dogs can cool off during summer months. Seasonal considerations affect pet comfort, with most campgrounds in the area operating from mid-April through October. Newaygo State Park provides more rustic camping options for pets with outhouses rather than full facilities, but offers excellent hiking, disc golf, and water access where leashed dogs are permitted. Wildlife is abundant in the area, requiring careful management of pets, especially during early morning and evening hours.

      Countryside Campground & Cabins

Kid and Pet Friendly with technology hip owners.

W.O.W. This is the CLEANEST campground I have ever been to. Seriously not 1 cigarette but or candy wrapper on my site when I arrived. Picnic tables are freshly washed. Sites around#40 are spacious and shaded all day which was awesome. No mats allowed but it was great as the grass is green and lush. Store has apparel, camping tools, and ice cream. Kids ran there every day and it is affordable and friendly. Pool is super clean as well as the bathrooms. Loved the online check in process so there was no delays and we just pulled right into our site. If you have pets there is a fenced in dog park with pick up bags and mowed trails for daily walking or biking. We will be back!!!  WIFI too!

School Section Lake Veteran's Park Campground

      Nice campground

Was a decent place to camp- lots are very close though! Luckily in the fall it wasn’t very busy. Nice little lake on property. Fire pits in odd spot near the road. No pets allowed-not even a cat that stays inside in your camper! Also- there is a $7 a day fee for out of the county. Even when you arrive late at night.

      Great private campground

Great little campground just on the outskirts of Cadillac. Great rates especially for full hookups. This was our first time at this park, we originally had a site next to the pool, but quickly realized our TT would not fit due to the trees. The front desk quickly changed our site and we were good to go. All sites were well maintained, they had a petting zoo (goats) and a store with a little game room in it. I would definitely come back.

      Something for everyone!

The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are activities for young and old and everyone in between. The showers are clean and spacious. They have campsites to meet everyone's desires. Pets are welcome here with two fenced dog runs and trails to keep the owners exercised. I love this place and have made it a regular stop.

      Not fancy, but nice

Really nice little campground. Not fancy, but clean and well kept. Pool and petting zoo for the kids. Small store with ice, few necessities and ice cream. Pond in the back on the small river for fishing. Quite a few seasonal campers. Anywhere from rustic to full hook up. Pet friendly. All gravel/dirt/grass sites. Most have trees. Fire pits quite small. Bathrooms very nice and updated.

      Herrick Recreation Area

      Peaceful, fishing and kayaking

Small but sweet campground. If given the choice get a site in the pine loops. It's more of a walk from the lake but the other loops have no shade and seem more crowded together. We had site #24 and it was fairly ideal and very roomy. There is the Pier- Marquette Rail trail about 1.5 miles from the campground, great for biking, running etc. Electric hook up was fine. Bathrooms are cleaned 3 x a day. Showers were warm and clean. This is Amish country and the campground has horse hitching posts near the fishing lakes. We saw a horse and buggy hitched up there. But I imagine anyone could ride their horse there then hitch up while they fish or wade in the water. Beach is across the road from the park and no pets/dogs allowed in that side of the park. Other campers there were courteous and respectful of quite hours. I would stay there again if I had another event bring me to this area.

      Great sites

This campground is great, it's only 25 minutes from Grand Haven beach. The sites are well treed and flat! Lots of the activities within the park, they have a small petting zoo, sky pad, playground. Several cottages in the park as well. Well be back.

      Campers Paradise

      Conveniently located, no-frills campground

Don’t discount this campground, we found it did not live up to the angsty hype of the sour reviewers on google and Campendium. We had a very enjoyable and safe stay at Camper’s Paradise in Grand Haven.

Yes, the staff are very strict on the 5 MPH speed limit. But if you respect this rule, you’ll have a perfectly fine stay. Those who have kids or pets will probably find they like the enforced speed limit so their kids can play about without imminent danger.

And yes, the campground is not a quiet, silent getaway. A quick look at a map can tell you it is close to a highway. However, the road noise is not obnoxious and quickly drowns out as background noise. Anyone in a trailer won’t notice it. It’s mostly primitive campers and light sleepers who may need ear plugs. The advantage to its urban location is its proximity to Grand Haven Beach and Rosy Mound, both bike riding distance.

Bathhouses, though old, have been recently re-tiled and are cleaned daily.

RV spots are dirt, and nicely shaded. A fire ring and picnic table are provided at each spot.

Don’t get scared from the bad reviews. This campground was a welcome rescue when our other reservation fell through. Yes, it’s an urban campground and yes, the staff are vigilant about their rules. But none of this prevents having a good time enjoying the outdoors in Grand Haven.

    Guide to Stanwood

Stanwood, Michigan offers several pet friendly camping options within the heavily forested Mecosta County region. Located at approximately 900 feet elevation in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, the area features numerous lakes and rivers including the Muskegon River and Hardy Pond. Camping conditions typically include sandy soil with significant tree cover, creating natural shade throughout many campgrounds.

    What to do

Water activities on Hardy Pond: River Ridge RV Resort provides direct access to Hardy Pond with a marina service for boaters. "Very nice RV resort. Ice cream and general store with gas right on the docks!" reports Arron P., highlighting the convenience for water enthusiasts.

Hiking the Dragon Trail: This 47-mile trail circles Hardy Pond with trailhead access from multiple campgrounds. "The park is right next to the Dragon Trail, a hiking and mountain biking trail that runs 47 miles round Hardy Pond. There is a short loop called the Brower Park Loop that has some amazing views and is great to hike," notes Joshua E. from Brower Park Campground.

Disc golf courses: Newaygo State Park Campground offers an excellent disc golf course that campers regularly mention. "I stayed here for a couple nights while I was on a business trip up that way, because camping is way cooler than staying at hotels. There's good hiking, an awesome disc golf course, and the lake right there with boat launches for fishing," writes Ryan L T.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds in the Stanwood area feature larger-than-average sites. At Sandy Beach County Park, campers appreciate the room to spread out. "Out family is new to the RV life, and we really enjoyed staying here after the Fourth of July. The kids got to ride their bikes in a safe and friendly environment. All of our neighbors were friendly," notes Greg N.

Clean facilities: "Bathrooms and showers were clean and easily accessible," reports Heather Q. about Brower Park. This sentiment is echoed across several area campgrounds that maintain high standards for their restrooms and shower facilities.

River access: The shallow areas of the Muskegon River provide perfect spots for pets and families. "The pool is a wonderful perk, and so is the river running through that has a nice Sandy and shallow bottom to set a chair in and relax!" shares Nicole C. from Mecosta Pines Campground.

    What you should know

Additional fees: Most campgrounds in the area charge daily or annual vehicle and watercraft fees. "Be prepared for extra fees for your cars and boats, the sites are still so fairly priced its really not that bad," advises Joshua E. about Brower Park Campground.

Seasonal operations: Most pet friendly camping near Stanwood closes by late October. Typically, campgrounds operate from mid-April through October, with some closing as early as September 15.

Varying levels of amenities: Campgrounds range from rustic to full-service. "If you like rustic, this is the place for you! The thing we love most about this campground is the spacious site and that it is truly rustic with vault toilets and hand pumped water," explains Sarah K. about Newaygo State Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: At Mecosta Pines Campground, families can request sites near play areas. "We initially booked a site by the river, but once we saw the sites next to the playground, we knew we had to switch for our sanity and so our toddler could play. They were very accommodating with us and so friendly," shares Kasey J.

Weekend activities: "Hayrides and movies on the weekend," mentions Dave B. about Brower Park Campground, which offers structured activities primarily during weekend stays.

Craft opportunities: Many campgrounds provide creative outlets for children. "There is a trail head with a gorgeous trail along a smaller stream and an art barn with activities for kids to create each day," explains Bethany S. about Brower Park Campground's family-friendly amenities.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection for big rigs: Most campgrounds near Stanwood accommodate larger RVs, but site location matters. "Brower Park is a quiet campground with three separate areas with sites. They accommodate large RVs as well as smaller trailers and tents," notes Heather Q.

Weekday vs. weekend stays: For a quieter experience with your pet, consider midweek camping. "The campground is overall really quiet during the week. Quite busy on the weekends but they are good about keeping quiet times," advises Nicole C. from Mecosta Pines Campground.

Seasonal site options: For frequent visitors with pets, seasonal options exist. "It's a great spot with beautiful rv sites. Very well manicured with loads of family fun things to do. I did hear they went completely seasonal but not sure if the information is valid," mentions Ralph P. about River Ridge Resort.
