What to do
Mountain biking trails: Oakland County Addison Oaks features intermediate-level mountain bike trails through Michigan woodlands. "This is a great family campground. I've only stayed in section D with my tent. It is heavily wooded and I don't see my neighbors in section D. Cell phone tower is close by. We especially enjoy the intermediate level mountain bike trails," notes a visitor at Oakland County Addison Oaks.
Water sports: Holly State Recreation Area offers multiple lakes for water activities. "This is a giant recreation area that features a campground, 3 lakes, tons of trails, and even a splash zone for kids. The campground has it all, electric, cabins, playgrounds, basketball courts, etc..." explains one camper.
Rock hunting: The shoreline at Lakeport State Park provides unique rock-collecting opportunities. "I love that it is near the water and that it has paved pads in the south part of the campground. I can honestly say that this park is my top ten of campgrounds in the State of Michigan campgrounds that I have been to," shares one visitor who enjoys searching for Petoskey stones along the beach.
Winter camping options: Some sites like Bishop Lake Campground remain open year-round. Unlike seasonal sites, Bishop Lake accommodates cold-weather camping with accessible bathrooms during winter months.
What campers like
Privacy in wooded sections: "We stayed in one of the group sites and it was beautiful. Less tree cover than we would have liked, you're basically in a giant grassy field, but it was perfect for a large group," notes a visitor at Addison Oaks County Park.
Clean facilities: Proud Lake Recreation Area receives praise for its bathroom facilities. "The bathhouse is new and very nice. There are a few sites on an incline and that made it hard to get in and out of our fifth wheel. I would visit this campground again," comments a reviewer.
Varied camping options: Camp Dearborn offers multiple accommodation types. "Options for camping range from tent sites to luxury cabins. We usually get a platform tent, which sleeps six people and comes with a kitchen cabana," explains one frequent visitor.
Family activities: "We've been in their tent/cabins and our own RV. Great park, clean, nice swimming lakes, the teens love the canteen. Tough to get in but we love it," shares a camper about Camp Dearborn's amenities.
