Best Cabin Camping near Marine City, MI

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several cabin options exist within a 30-mile radius of Marine City, Michigan, with varying levels of amenities and comfort. Port Huron KOA offers family-friendly cabins with access to multiple pools, a jumping pillow, and scheduled activities. Bald Mountain Recreation Area provides two rustic cabins that sleep 10-15 people, featuring wood-burning stoves but no electricity or heat. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area includes three small cabins in the East campground area with more open surroundings, while the West camping area offers a more wooded and isolated setting. "The cabins are rustic, so they don't have electricity or heat but there is a large wood burning stove," noted one visitor about the Bald Mountain cabins.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Most cabins require reservations well in advance, especially during summer months when availability becomes limited. The KOA campgrounds typically offer more amenities in their cabin accommodations, while state park cabins tend to be more basic. Addison Oaks County Park provides cabin options alongside yurts in a peaceful setting with hiking and mountain biking trails. Pet policies vary by location, with some cabins allowing pets while others restrict them. A camper mentioned that Port Huron KOA has "lots of trees, cabins, tents and campers welcome. Many shower houses/bathrooms. Jumping pillow, tons of scheduled activities, equipment rentals, trails nearby."

Most rustic cabins require visitors to bring their own bedding, cooking equipment, and other essentials. The more developed KOA cabins may include basic furnishings but still require personal items. Firewood is available for purchase at most locations, particularly important for cabins relying on wood stoves for heat. On-site camp stores at locations like Port Huron KOA and Lakeport State Park provide basic supplies and forgotten essentials, though prices may be higher than in town. Visitors staying at state park cabins should plan to bring all necessary supplies as amenities are minimal. Water access varies by location, with some cabins offering nearby spigots while others require carrying water from central locations.

    Bald Mountain Recreation Area

Amazing place to hike but campground not included.

I absolutely adore Bald Mountain Recreation area! The trails are well maintained and well marked. There is also tons of clean, easy to access lakes within the park too. Perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, or fishing. Unfortunately there is not a camping area within the recreation area. There is however two rustic cabins that are available for rental year round. They are popular with hunters and scout troops. The cabins sleep about 10-15 people if remember correctly. They are rustic, so they don’t have electricity or heat but there is a large wood burning stove.

    Oakland County Addison Oaks

    Great Local Campground and Trails

Addison Oaks is a campground that features hiking and mountain biking trails, campground, cabins, disc golf course, and a lake for boating. The campground is RV and tent friendly and offers fire pits/ picnic tables. The trails are well maintained and heavily trafficked.

    Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

    Quick get away

Wonderful place for a quick get away. Park is clean. Beach is a 1.8 mile hike from the East loop in the campground but is well worth the walk. (Trail is not stroller/wagon friendly) If you are hoping to hook up to electrical, bring extension cords; some hook ups are exceptionally far away from the designated RV parking pad. Extensive mountain biking trails and the lake is open to boating, kayaking, and other water sports. Park offers lots of private sites! We stayed in site 118 and could not see neighboring sites! The site was very spacious and offered picnic table, fire ring, paved pad, and electrical hook up. (hook up in this specific site was considerably far away.)

    Addison Oaks County Park

    Huge, clean, and great fun!

We stayed in one of the group sites and it was beautiful. Less tree cover than we would have liked, you're basically in a giant grassy field, but it was perfect for a large group. we did have to share a pavilion with a group of older campers (celebrating a 90th birthday. Our group was there to celebrate my 30th) but it turned out perfectly as they did early dinners and went to bed in their campers.

The beach is nice, a little small, but clean and fun (would be nice if your pets were allowed to swim also).

The only real negative I have is that for each group site there is a single fire pit. This made cooking, sitting around the fire, and many other things quite difficult. There IS a large charcoal grill that can be used, but if you're doing separate meals, it will be hard to coordinate.

    Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

A great getaway that's not too far

A very quiet campground. The sites are spread out and only 2 vehicles per site are allowed. The East campground is more open and had 3 small cabins that can be rented. The West camping is more wooded and isolated. An extensive horse back riding trail system and MTB trails are easily accessible.

    Nice Michigan State Park

Camped here opening weekend of 2022 (April 29). Nice park with several sites for our bigger rig. Leveling would be more of the challenge. But, we eventually got to 145 which was pretty good and very doable from leveling Stand point. Large well kept grassy site. Nice fire ring. No water or sewer at site but fill and dump available in park. Our Verizon WiFi coverage was good as was our TMobile. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Seemed there to serve. We experienced no issues with our 30 amp (20 & 30 only available). Didn’t need air conditioning but electric heat was our main heat source and worked fine.

    Port Huron KOA

Lots of activities for kids and families, beautiful trees!

lots of trees, cabins, tents and campers welcome. Many shower houses/bathrooms. Jumping pillow, tons of scheduled activities, equipment rentals, trails nearby. There is a movie theater, old one room schoolhouse, camp store, pools, number boats and putt putt. Lots of car traffic and roads are stone not paved.

    KOA Campground Emmett

    Bed bugs in cabins

Avoid this KOA at all costs– bed bugs and dishonest management. Our stay at the Emmett KOA was a nightmare. The cabin we rented was infested with bed bugs. When we brought it up, the owner flat-out lied and told us they hadn’t had bed bugs in“over 13 years.” That was absolutely false. There are multiple reviews on here already citing bed bug issues, and staff members themselves admitted to us that it has been an ongoing problem. Even the pest control company they claimed to use confirmed they’ve been battling bed bugs here. Instead of taking responsibility, management hid behind their ridiculous 14-day cancellation policy and refused to refund our second night(which we didn’t stay for obvious reasons). Their“solution” was insulting: a 20% discount for a future stay(as if anyone would want to come back!) and a handful of quarters so we could attempt to kill the bugs in our belongings using their dryer. The dishonesty from Toni and her father is appalling. Any business that knowingly lies to its customers about a health and cleanliness issue this serious has no integrity. Bed bugs are not a minor inconvenience– they spread, they infest, and they follow you home. We left disgusted and disappointed, and I strongly recommend avoiding this campground if you value your health, honesty, or basic respect as a paying customer.

Guide to Marine City

Cabin accommodations near Marine City, Michigan range from rustic to modern with varying seasonal availability. These cabin rentals provide access to numerous recreational activities from spring through fall, with some properties open year-round. The nearby recreation areas offer both lakefront and wooded settings within a 30-mile radius.

What to do

Lake activities and swimming: At Lakeport State Park Campground, visitors can enjoy Lake Huron's shoreline. "The beach is rocky so don't forget to pack some water shoes but the rocky beach comes with finding cool rocks to either paint or just collect! (We left with a whole cooler filled)," notes reviewer Cole G. The park offers waterfront relaxation with rock-collecting opportunities.

Hiking and trail exploration: Pontiac Lake Recreation Area features extensive trail networks for day hikes. "The campground is RV and tent friendly and offers fire pits/picnic tables. The trails are well maintained and heavily trafficked," explains Kate K. The recreation area connects to a mile-long trail leading to the beach.

Disc golf courses: Addison Oaks County Park provides disc golf among its recreational options. "The grounds are huge with bike/hike trails, a lake and a disc golf course," shares Richard T. The park combines outdoor activities with cabin accommodations in a wooded setting.

What campers like

Private, wooded sites: Pontiac Lake Recreation Area offers secluded camping spots. "This campground is my FAVORITE in Oakland County. The sites aren't super far away from each other but there are trees between sites so from most of the sites you can't really see your neighbors," notes Sarah P. The layout creates privacy despite sites being relatively close.

Sandy beaches and swimming: When staying at camping cabins near Marine City, many visitors appreciate the beach access. "We love the fact it is close to home. We live in Fort Gratiot so when I have a work weekend we can just hook up and pull the camper up to the lakeside campground and enjoy some peace," says Keith K. about Lakeport State Park Campground.

Variety of cabin types: Oakland County Addison Oaks offers multiple accommodation options. "Nice park, family friendly, very clean and maintained. Bike and boat rental, children's playground and activities," reports Tim O. The park maintains several cabin rentals alongside traditional camping areas.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin rentals require advance planning. "Reserve well in advance!" advises Wendy K. regarding Port Huron KOA, which fills quickly during peak seasons.

Rustic cabin conditions: At Bald Mountain Recreation Area, cabins lack modern amenities. "The cabins sleep about 10-15 people if I remember correctly. They are rustic, so they don't have electricity or heat but there is a large wood burning stove," explains Kate K. These accommodations suit those seeking a more primitive experience.

Cleanliness variations: Facilities vary widely between properties. "The entire facility was clean and staff couldn't have been friendlier. The only downside was the abysmal Verizon signal. I'm talking 3 mbps bad," notes David B. about Thousand Trails St. Clair. Cell service limitations affect some recreation areas more than others.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Emmett KOA offers extensive family programming. "I've been camping for a while now. All my grandkids are with me. They will have fun all day long in and out of water. Great weekends be spent here," says Mary R. The property provides structured entertainment for children.

Playground access: Multiple cabin camping areas include playgrounds. "There are tons of activities for kids on the weekends, a lake for swimming, great playgrounds and everything is really clean," mentions Wendy K. about Addison Oaks County Park. These facilities help keep children engaged.

Weekend programming: Scheduled activities enhance family stays. "Tons to for kids, multiple pools including a zero entry, jumping pillow, ice cream stores, old west town hayrides, train rides($), multiple parks," explains Lindsey S. about Port Huron KOA. These programmed events typically run on weekends and holidays.

Tips for RVers

Site spacing and leveling: RV sites vary significantly between properties. "A good number of sites are not level," warns Cheryl K. about Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area. Bringing leveling blocks helps at most locations.

Hookup locations: Electric connections sometimes require planning. "If you are hoping to hook up to electrical, bring extension cords; some hook ups are exceptionally far away from the designated RV parking pad," advises Mary H. about Pontiac Lake Recreation Area. Extension cords prove essential at several parks.

Dump station access: Sanitary facilities differ between properties. "Clean campground and well maintained. Two different loops to choose from for camping. Only drawback is the distance from the lake," notes Renee R. Many cabin areas share dump stations with RV camping sections.
